If it didn't cost money to run servers I would be fine with it. After all, when you buy a car your warranty expires after 3 years and the company is no longer financially on the hook for your unit.

There is no way to do this without handing over your backend code.
No one is asking developers to maintain servers for connectivity. p2p or dedicated servers exist. It's an option.

Devs in the 2000s were giving people dedicated servers to play their games as much as they want offline, without giving them "backend code".. Do you even know what the fuck you're about maldavius shill?

It's literally explained on their GitHub that numbers for any videos after the API was pulled are made up. My own videos have been off by 300% in some cases. Automaton noticed the same thing across multiple channels, including an instance with 20 times the dislikes. You can see users evaluating the extension on YouTube with mixed results. Sometimes it's very accurate across a large number of videos, but this is extremely dependent on things like channel size and niche.

RYD users are not always representative of Youtube users. I know gamergate retards and dramafags have loved using RYD dislikes as an easy win, but they're just not reliable.
They're still infinitely more accurate than the data YouTube gives us, which is that nobody has ever clicked dislike on any video ever. Youtube fags had a choice: get laughed at for accurate like/dislike data, or get laughed at for inaccurate like/dislike data.

Look I am a developer, I have 500 years of experience from the last 2 years at my dads company so let me break this down.

*Pulls up microsoft paint and scribbles bullshit on the screen while I talk condescendingly*

So there is this thing called documentation, and this other thing called source coode.

When your live service game goes off line, you can release the source code. And this documentation, right here, you can use your eyes to read it and understand the code.

Then other people, they can take your game after you shut it down, and they can host their own servers.

Refusing to give your fans the opportunity to keep playing even after you shut down your games servers, insane behavior dude.

*Looks at the chat*

Yeah, Yeah, Its that easy. It barely costs any money to do. *Stretches* Yeeeahh
I'm convinced game devs are spiritually the equivalent of every 40 year old do nothing in every engineering firm ever. Where their entire job is to bitch and moan about how impossible the bear minimum is. It even has a fucking name, The Scotty Principle.

Noita. A game that I'm like 90% sure is running on a proprietary, obscure, and highly specialized engine, has a multiplayer mod. Kerbal fucking space program has a multiplayer mod. DARK SOULS (original) had a direct connection mod. Rimworld has a multiplayer mod. SKYRIM has a multiplayer mod. Basically every game before 2012 had a server browser and nearly every MMO has to keep snapping down public servers. When every bigwig game is on one of 3 engines the idea that this couldn't be standardized is fucking nonsense.

It's only when you purposefully go out of your way to kill it or IP fag like mad that you can actually kill a game for good.

I sort of knew already who Ross is. I was never subscribed to him or clearly remember any video I watched of his, but I do vaguely remember I've seen some of his videos and thought he was a cool enough guy. I had no idea who Thor is or that he was supposedly so popular that all the anti-SKG shitposters were taking their talking points from him.

So I have to ask: Why? What's the appeal for at least million people to watch this guy? He immediately seems like a smug faggot with the charisma of a wet dishrag. Everything he says comes off as some mix of condescending and bored. Ross might not be much of a looker, but at least he actually projects a personality. Even other videos I skimmed thru of him where he's not acting like a disingenuous douche seem to just be him giving basic takes everyone would agree with in the most smug way possible while failing to be funny.

Two reasons.

Pounding youtube shorts like crazy, with basic bitch "life advice" takes.

Lack of dads in his young audience. (who's generation also happen to love bite-sized content)

Then hand it over, faggot. You took the money from your customers. They have a reasonable expectation of a game that works. Nobody would accept this bullshit with any other type of product. It's tantamount to destruction of property. But with video games we are just supposed to accept it, why? Because they have gotten away with it so far?

>I am paid minimum wage for this position
>I have no financial stake in this company
This isn't even coherent, in the same sentence this ferret killer
A) Admits that the people he claims are lying are telling the truth
B) Admits that he is actively receiving financial compensation for his involvement with the game and company in question
C) Denies having any financial investment in the company, while being paid for working at it

It is baffling to me how anyone could read this and conclude that this is either coherent or truthful. Are normies really so staggeringly braindead that this just slips past them? Surely not.
...But judging by the last five years, maybe my expectations are just too high.

WHO GIVES A FLYING FUCK? RAPE PIRATE SOFTWARE!!!
Idk or care who that is, sorry but null posted a giant banner ad for this regulation so I get to discuss it here :^)
Yes there is, and even if there was no way to do that, stop crying you fucking faggot, you are not Terry Davis (and even he made TempleOS public domain, because Terry was not a nigger faggot like you)
If you no longer intend to run it, then hand it over. Or hand over a set of binaries if you're that paranoid about "trade secrets"
If you've ever written backend code you'll know the two unsurmountable problems with the "binaries" thing. For one, it's an absolute fucking clusterfuck to get a server up and running without being able to change the code to fit your environment. For two, it pretty much outlaws runtime languages.
Tell that to Hitman: World of Assassination. The server side has been reverse engineered without backend code required.
In this example the publishers of that game would be in violation of the law and would have been forced to forfeit their code regardless. Yay?

I'm not understanding the hypotheticals here. When you purchase a subscription to an MMO, are you entitled to be able to play it forever, without ever paying for your subscription again? No? Are you trying to outlaw that too?

Ross' analogy of YouTube influences being modern greek gods was remarkable to me, because it is so fitting to that current, modern day (internet) feeling that success doesn't lie in your own hands anymore. It really doesn't even matter if you speak truth, have talent or do good things, what really matters is what the members of a certain cabal think of you.
MAAALDAAAVIOUS, MUUUTAHAAAR AND CHAAARLIE I HAVE COME TO SMITE YOU DOWN!

dont mmos like ff14 also require you to pay upfront cash for the game and the monthy sub so i would be pissed if the game i paid up front and monthly shut down and i couldnt do shit about it

Oh no, what will they ever do? Its like all those private MMO servers. The horrors of some guy in nebraska hosting a server for 500 people of dead game.

Imagine making this argument about replacement parts for a discontinued car people can't buy anymore and some small time supplier who can custom make the parts.
Cause that shit is happening in real life too. Fuckers wont even let you replace a phone battery.

E: I'll go even further.
If someone steals their code and uses it for something unintended. Make it so they can sue. Which they probably already can do. But as long as its used for that specific game? I don't see the issue.

What is this shitty little game even about. I always assumed from that screen that it was a shitty attempt to ape Undertale and Deltarune, yes I like those games despite the horrible fanbase, without a hint of charm or the god-tier OST.
Imagine you shamelessly steal the tone and aesthetic of Toby Fox games but cram far more furrybait into it. It's worse than the Toby Fox games in every way and will never be finished. It exists only to scam money from furries and so you can pretend you're a legit game dev. Also you like to rub your penis on ferrets.

That is the Heartbound/PirateSoftware experience

Yes. And it's hard to blame mald for his arrogance. Fagtree thinks he's smarter than everyone else, even though he's not... but it sure looks like he's smarter than a lot of other people. Guy shouldn't even have a fucking career.

No one's reading all that pussy. You're full of shit and disingenuous. Kill yourself.
