Are you just low IQ or something? You realize the entire software industry is built on the back of artificial scarcity, right? Please respond with a clear yes or a no, don't duck the question.
So customers have no rights and cannot reasonably expect anything from you even after they pay you, right? Software is special and not like other goods and services because you have to be a smart boy like you to make it. Destroying the product you sold to paying customers after they bought it is a sensible and acceptable form of artificial scarcity, right? Yes or no?

I'm sure it's been said several times in the thread, but just to clarify one of Ross's points:
Several games require a central server to operate. Without the central server, key pieces of data cannot function in any playable state without a ridiculous amount of work on the part of some turbo-autist (several years at times). Ross is not arguing that companies should provide the servers themselves; Ross is arguing that publishers should be required to have an End of Life plan that would include documentation and relevant source code so these turbo-autists can fix these games within a reasonable timeframe, ala the "Right to Repair."

Sure, some games will require a lot of work and resources to function (MMOs being a prime example). Nonetheless, someone will often be able to run these servers if given the proper motivation, whether through pay or personal investment. Ross is not arguing that multiplayer games should be forced to have a single player version. He's arguing for the ability to run our own server once the company stops caring for a game, partly for enjoyment and partly for the artistic merit many games have on some level. Furthermore, the majority of games do not require massive resources to upkeep. Something like Hearthstone could easily be fixed by a group of autists and ran locally.

Also, I'm sure some games are just lost to time and cannot be repaired easily. That's fine under SKG as far as I know. It's less about ensuring old games can be repaired and more about preventing the practice in the future.

Never heard of THIS little drama until just now but apparently Maldy can't even avoid fucking the customers of the games he actually finishes

what the fuck he removed OFFLINE PLAY IN A FUCKING FIGHTING GAME DUDE thats like a super cardinal sin of fgc despite platformers not as much respected they still like 0ms lag but due to mald some poor guy dropped 4 complex combos in a tourney causing him to lose $3.24 and drowning

Just as an aside, this is apparently also what "no financial compensation from the game" looks like:

https://steamcommunity.com/app/2217000/eventcomments/565870482296934635?snr=1_2108_9__2107 Steam thread on this "promotion" that went straight into Mald's fucking pockets, so yeah Ludwig, he does have a fucking personal stake in the game, you snake!

At the bottom of page 3 the dev states "we made sure not to refer to it as a charity". Yeah, but you didn't fucking tell people it WASN'T a charity... A lie of omission, and yet another thing Mald is associated with is shady as hell. What a surprise.

The story he told was that he got a job as a nepobaby which he hated and left, a year later or something he applied again this time without bringing his dad up or asking him for help, and stuck around.
This is funny to me, because for it to happen it needs to exist in this magical world where the person checking applicants and reviewing the documents is, somehow, not clocked in to the name of one of the most prestigious people in the company.
It also completely discounts all the things he would be afforded by virtue of just having his dad as his dad. Things like having someone to ask questions when learning to program, someone to financially support him so he never had to scrub toilets to pay for housing, etc. etc. etc.

Idk or care who that is,
Too retarded to read the title of the thread he is posting in. Everyone replying to you including me is equally retarded for humoring your stupid bullshit

fucked over Jerma by bleeding him out of money on Offbrand, which prevented Jerma from being able to retire.
Anything to back this up? It's obvious based on context but I would love to see proofs

Planned obsolescence is a completely normal business model for software. In fact software as a whole would not be a viable business plan without some form or another of artificial scarcity (I notice none of you are campaigning to make piracy legal)
I'm so fucking tired of warblers who conflate the practice of designing things to last as long as their use cases so that you don't put $300 of forever buttons onto something whose relays are going to fail within the lifespan of the shitty plastic, or in the more modern cases, extremely streamlined designs with poor ease-of-access,

with putting a little gremlin in the case that bursts out after exactly three years to shit on the battery and rape your dog.
Yeah. that's fucking disgusting. The government should not be able to mandate how I code my vidyashit backend. You are a disgrace.
They already do you double nigger. Why do you think the entire Dark Souls franchise went offline for like 6 months? You think they touched Dark Souls II again out of the goodness of their heart? There is obviously incurred liability with any software license you provide. I guarantee you there is a 200 page document that details EXACTLY what software can and can't do in every regulatory zone.

Fucking libertarians I swear to god. There's a literal pantheon of arch hebrews who will descend from on high and rip me apart Evangelion style if I put a 12v and a 24v wire in the same wire tray but requesting they stop including the dog raping shit goblin in the newest monster hunter game would be some new and novel hell.

There was another story Jason told where his dad was so immensely important at the company, that when his manager saw the two of them talking, he apologized profusely because he thought his employee was bothering him. I think the moral of the story was supposed to be "I got hired and my manager didn't know who my dad was so I'm not a nepobaby" but the obvious takeaway was that Jason's dad drives managers to tears at the thought of slightly inconveniencing him.

"Upper Echelon's" take on the PirateSoftware situation:
Comments section is goin wild on this one
He brought up the lady that killed herself. Which I kind of predicted happening but I thought Mald would do it.
Pretty much. If you can't handle it you shouldn't be the face of it.

The thing about this is. Pirate software has brought all of this upon himself.
There's no reason to be sympathetic. He fucked this guy over. This is the consequences of fucking that guy over.
Ross extended an olive branch day 1 to work it out. he could have been a hero and made something - but he didn't want that. he wanted this shit to burn.
So fuck em.

I never understood why people support this regulation. The internet should be free, I should be allowed to spin up a server on a cloud platform and start selling copies of my game without permanently locking myself into some sort of lifetime contract (or forfeiting my proprietary source code)

If you got scammed by EA then stop buying EA slop. That's how capitalism works.
"There should be no laws against scamming. If you get scammed you'll be more careful next time."
Damn, why do lolberts have to be so insufferable?

If something interesting comes out of the fighting game drama someone tag null with a summary before the stream. I'm happy to call out the roach for anything even without a good backstory though.

Every clip of him should have his voice edited back to how it actually sounds, he'd stop trying to get clipped really fucking fast.

Just because something is normalised doesn't make it good. If you can't outcompete old software you shouldn't get to destroy it to drive up demand by limiting supply.

It's the same sort thing with medical companies how they just abuse patent and copyright law to maintain a stranglehold on drugs instead of letting it lapse into free use.

If you can't compete in a free market your company shouldn't exist.
