So the people begging for the law to change in a good way are placing their hopes in the same institution that used its legal machinery to criminalize modding, outlaw DRM circumvention tools, enforce software monopolies, punish emulator devs, protect DRM under copyright law, hand publishers the enforcement power to remotely revoke access, and so much more. And all of that in a system where enforcement is carried out through opaque bureaucracies, lopsided court cases, and extrajudicial threats where a multibillion dollar company can get state backing to crush some guy hosting a fan server, and yet no consumer has any realistic way to enforce even basic contract expectations without drowning in legal fees and regulatory indifference.

Planned obsolescence was not a thing until sometime in the 2000s. You obviously don't remember a time when obsolete software wasn't actually planned, it just happened when a major upgrade happened, like Apple's transition to Macintosh in the 1980s (from the Apple II family) and Mac OS X in 2001, and even then, there were tools to help migrate users over—they were just abandoned because it took too much resources to maintain compatibility, in the latter case "Classic Environment" died because Apple didn't want to port 68k code to Intel. It wasn't until around the very late 2000s and following the death of Steve Jobs that they took deliberate measures to block older software from running.

Either way, it's irrelevant when talking about The Crew, because at least with old software you can get an older machine or load up an emulator and party like it's 1999. There IS legal solution to playing The Crew, you can't just put the disc into an Xbone and chill out, it's gone. There is no looking back, there is no playing it again.

Jerma, wanting to retire from streaming, was convinced to financially and professionally invest in Offbrand Productions, to provide him with a much lower stress job to make ends meet and comfortably live his life
Offbrand Productions utterly fails to do anything profitable, wastes a ton of Jerma (and others)'s money, with Offbrand's financial viability having been a deception from Ludwig putting his personal streaming profits into its accounting to make it look profitable
Jerma leaves because it's not working, while out enough money that he has to start streaming again

And then to top it off, Ludwig spins into full Mald-sucking mode:

I'd give them even less credit. It's an incomplete system of beliefs, which usually stems from the idea "I want to be left alone". At some point they hopefully realize the government isn't going to leave them alone, society isn't going to leave them alone, and if you care at all about leaving a good country behind, you realize that a system of contracts where you're always looking behind your back to see who is going to fuck you isn't an ideal way to live. Then there's the other set of libertarians who are just straight up degenerates and want to be able to openly do anything they want. There's also the classic tech giants who recognize that having no regulation helps them personally.
