Alex never wanted to be the villain. He was always the protagonist. The monkey king, etc. Freddy gives no fucks whatsoever once he's got enough beers in him. Alex couldn't handle a mild hassling. Freddy dumped a bucket of piss in a room full of people, whipped his dick out, stood there while an Australian crackhead vomited on him, etc. Alex is a trustfund baby that happened to become a white trash drug addict. Freddy seems like he was raised in the shit and thrives in it.
As a proud member of the MKDF (monkey king defense force) I would like to correct some of your revisionist history and spread the light of the eternal Monkey King, Alex B.
When comparing Alex and Freddy, it’s important to take into account how long they were on the show and the mental strain they endured. By the time Alex was pushed out, he had his family brought onto the show, endured the reveal of the famous house gaslight (a burden for all FH fish) and was targeted disproportionately by Frank who he perceived as monkey rapist and pedophile wild Randy. Many fish have left for lighter targeting
While I cannot deny Freddy’s piss play being entertaining, let’s not forget how Alex and Connor engaged in a back and forth battle of pudding in each others clothes, an unprecedented move for being a normie unfamiliar with the show.
Alex wasn’t an antagonist, that is true, but he didn’t need to be when simbal existed as the perfect heel that constantly betrayed allies. Alex was, like you said a protagonist. And a chaotic one at that, from which content flowed like water from an infinite spring.
I don’t even think Freddy is an antagonist. Every fish in s4 lacks the trait of innocence. They know what the show is, and they’re all assholes as a result. Freddy is more of a chaotic force than a villain. I’ll give Freddy more credit because he was unaware, and he’s probably the best fish of the season if we go by content output alone, but Alex B is on another level.
You could put him in any situation and he’d turn things up to eleven. Give him one line in a scene and he adds five minutes of drug addled improv in which he means every word. Every fish bounced off of him perfectly, he created more indirect content from his presence and attitude than arguably Jon or Cole in their respective seasons.
Freddy is a good fish, but Alex is a prime contender in the GOAT argument. Please refrain from spreading anymore heresy, thank you.
