I have two effigies of the roaming gnome behind my computer at all times. I have no odd happenings aside from the occasional misisng pair of underwear or socks. Possibly a different gnome clan.
This unintentionally reminded me Garageband used to have a really good voice changer I'd use for tf2 and CS and shit using soundflower when that was still a thing. Used that to play music through That was over a decade ago now and every voice changer since has been the same weird crusty or chipmunk shit even if it's one of those "ai powered" ones. People will never again know how fucking crazy convenient and funny it was to just be able to switch between normal, squeaker, and geriatric guy voice while some musics just constantly playing every time you talk. That's not even the craziest shit I saw back then in terms of VC antics.

It's understandable to not want to believe someone so evil actually exists. A lot of war stories are made up, or remembered wrong, or details of multiple different encounters are linked together into one too. Though many insane ones are true. Like you said, given the context, I lean more towards true. Especially based on other verifiable things I've read and heard about these same sort of occurrences

This is a trend I've noticed among GWOT vets. They're somewhat odd in how they've seen this awful shit, and the trend of Muslims who are 2nd generation being more radical than their parents who grew up in the middle East, and yet they still say shit like that. Many of them fall into this weird Civ Nat or libertarian style ideology. I definitely think they have good insights, but you see this same pattern with them, and I knew it was coming while reading that post.

I've always interpreted these as preemptive mitigation. They do not really work, but these strategies seem to try and head off criticisms that the person is ignorant or to avoid outright dismissal by others.
It is pretty gay though and in reality it just weakens the argument.
