Sloptuber Luke Stephens brings up an excellent point that over the next few months, publishers may try to kill off their dead live service games in an effort to get ahead of any EU conditions that would require them to make an offline mode for any games that currently have an online only requirement.
Anthem is going offline in January. And EA has said there is currently no plans for an offline mode. So effectively your purchase is being taken away. Despite the game being shit this is what the movement is fighting against.
There are many failed live service games that require an online connection. I think Luke brought up Redfall. Evolve is another one but it came out years ago. Publishers aren't going to be willing to put teams on older games that have failed to give them viable offline options. So they figure it would be better to kill them off entirely before the EU gets the ball rolling.
I'd assume there'll be some form of grandfathering built into SKG if it manages to pass - Games published before X Arbitrary Date not needing to comply - but frankly I'm more surprised the Anthem servers were still up. When's the last time anyone heard anything about that game?
i've said it on the corporate cocksucking thread but SKG petitions to protect anyone that tries to revive a dead game using a server emulator so EA killing anthem off doesn't mean much, i mean if people are interested enough into building a server emulator for anthem that is but that's on the future, at least if SKG passes it means EA will not be able to drag people to court for trying to revive anthem, in europe, in US it's still fucked up with cuckright shit.

I would assume video games would be treated more like USB-C, where taking in the whole lifecycle of the game would be seen by eurocrats as needing some design work.

It's pretty standard for major customer action on "fixed" products.

Something like GDPR applies "retroactively", as services affected by it are always collecting new data.

I can't say I know much about this sorta thing so I'm hoping you're right. I guess this industry has beaten me down to always expect the worst and that nothing good ever happens.

I don't ever remember hearing about this game. I didn't know it existed until now.

Correct. He tried to make Undertale 2 with none of the talent of Toby Fox (no good soundtrack, mediocre writing at best etc) and expected the same success. He even called it his magnum opus in one of his shorts.

He is legitimately retarded. He thought he could blow up by ripping off Undertale.
 
I'm not a professional programmer but when I was a kid things like java and lua were not languages that influenced big things, they were novelties that people didn't take seriously. object oriented programming was something that the programming greybeards were very vocal about being an unserious thing for non-serious work like video games and school projects. i don't know how old pirate software is but he strikes me as the kind of person who would have learned c++ because "thats what everything serious is written in" and like never really changed as times changed
Object Orient Programming is now the defacto standard and is taught in 1st or 2nd year programming courses at every school. Nearly every language supports it, including C++. Weirdly IBM has even managed to make Object Oriented Cobol work which is downright satanic.

The weird thing is that he is fully aware of all this, because he's using them. He has to. The engine he is using is built in an OOP way, and he regularly makes use of inheritance. My only explanation is laziness. He would rather copy paste the file with his 3 line alteration, rather than going through the few lines of boiler plate class definition to create a child class. The result is code bloat. lots of it.

6 years is an extremely generous time frame, I'd put it at at minimum 12 years
I mark the beginning of the Dark Age of Gaming/end of the Golden Era at the precise moment Potato Ken shat out his daughter simulator Bioshock Infinite and the entire gaming press cabal entered a new phase of slobbing his knob over it - and none of the reasons they were doing so were because of how "fun" it was to play.
