She's not renting through some big company who can eat the loss if she fails to pay rent for a couple months. She can only rent through individuals, who maybe inherited a house and decided to try to rent it out because they think it's easier than selling. To put it very plainly: yes.

Mem divides the world into three groups of people. There are rich, usually "wyt" people who can more than afford to finance her lifestyle and are evil for not doing so. Then there are fellow poors like her who deserve to be financed, but not before Mem's needs are taken care of first. Mem is the third and most important group and her needs trump all

Mem will gladly steal from a landlord by not paying rent, or by damaging a property to avoid inspections, but she's not above stealing from fellow crowd funders, or letting people like Salvatore-- who may actually be clinically retarded-- take out payday loans to fund Mem, even though Salvatore is on welfare and Mem be using the money for drugs.

If you're the kind of person who believes every human life is inherently valuable, then Mem has worth. By any other measure, Mem is objectively worthless. She produces nothing, she's an endless void of need from which nothing escapes, and she will sell out the people closest to her for tiny amounts of money. There are heroin addicts with a better moral compass.

"Nothing ever happens," has proven to be a good mantra for these e-beggars who constantly doompost about being evicted or dying if they can't crowdfund enough money only to miraculously meet their goals at the last possible moment and suffer no consequences. It's unfortunate more people that donate don't realize this, but I blame the people that conditioned them to accept all sob stories at face value and question nothing no matter how illogical or contradictory it may be.

While I might generally believe people are entitled to basic human dignity, I also believe anyone who doesn't treat others with the same dignity deserves whatever karma they ultimately get. You’d think eating could wait in light of imminent physical and financial disaster but no.

Her rental history is fascinating. This has to be the second or third HOUSE she has rented, despite being incapable of home or yard maintenance. Where does she find these places? Where does she find these landlord who apparently make basic repairs their tenants’ sole responsibility? How does she qualify to rent anything or to open utility accounts when her credit must be tanked or non-existent?

I do think she's lying about a lot, but I could also imagine the landlords she's able to rent from, being pretty bad. Not "abusive" and she showed the "problems" of her new flat/house and everyone here agreed, those being normal inconveniences you will face in low income housing. Like the small stain on her toilet seat. I totally understand being disgusted by that, but there is also a point of trying to deep clean this: Either you get rid of it, or you can be sure that it is a discoloration. Still icky, but defeneatly not the biggest priority for someone, who lives in filth anyway.

So yes, she's lying, but her standards are also just way above her means.
On one hand the "cooking oil" is also something she could be evicted over, but while she does spend insane amounts on door dash and grocery deliveries, I can imagine her cooking. As in junk food, you make on your stove, or in the oven. She and her roommate are both really fat. Even with her lying, I don't think she door dashes every single meal, or snack, she eats.

Utilities may have a program where you pay a big deposit if your history is bad, otherwise there would be a lot more people living in houses with no water. Some rental companies will make utilities a condition of renting, because a house that functionally has no toilet may not be legally rentable.

However, I agree with others in the thread: Mem's strategy for renting is to find independent landlords. People who don't know what they're doing, people who are renting out one property and don't have a property management company involved, people who might not want to bother with background check fees. It would make more financial sense for her to rent an apartment where the rent might be less, heat would be less and she wouldn't have to mow a lawn--but apartment owners or their management companies have Mem-spotting down to a science, because they do it all day.

(Although in the most recent saga she claimed she was moving from one sewage-ridden house to a different one under the same management, which is baffling that they'd want to keep her. She could be lying, or she could be slowly destroying the second property of someone who owns two rental houses.)

Like you said: While she could be lying, according to her, her current housing was secured with the same "people" her previous flat was with. I don't think it's one person who just owns two properties. After the sewage incidents, there is just no way, they'd rent 2/2 properties to her.
That's one of the reasons I'd imagine them being subpar landlords focused on low-income housing. They might have enough units to not care about Mem. Especially if she actually gets some kind of gibs we don't know about!

Especially because the messed up part was, that she didn't clean it, took months to throw away her contaminated stuff and refused to let people in to fix it. I can also imagine the whole thing being her fault.

The way she worded the need to have a professional cleaner for her current place, is kind of new for me. It comes of as her realizing, that she can't keep refusing people entrance to her place.
