Did he grow up with those golden age heroes that have been forgotten to time? No, so the great Linkara need not bother himself with forgotten relics. He could just go online and use scans of comics from the Golden age. Or, you know, do actual episodes on the history of comics and give some actual information in the process.
But no. He'd rather sit there being an unfunny douche and snark at the camera.
I'd say The Scarlet Pimpernel is where you stop since that's generally considered the first superhero. I'm actually surprised Lewis hasn't done an episode on Zorro since it's the movie the Wayne family saw the night they died. Probably because no one requested it for a Patreon review. But how far back does one go when covering the history of superheroes? Zorro? The Scarlet Pimpernel? Mythological demigods? That's too much effort for someone with a large wife to feed and absurd power fantasies to record.
I don't know if they came out around that time but yes the design does have a certain resemblance in that they're very tall and thin.Wasn't Aeon Fluxx a popular thing at the time? That's what the designs reminded me off.
He probably doesn't consider it as being "comic book" material and beyond that what version of Zorro would he use? There's been so many of them each with their own story and characterization. He'd have to do a deep dive on it going back to the pulp origins of the character, the serials from the 30's, the comedies like "Zorro the Gay Blade" and so on. Honestly it might be interesting to see where he goes on it but at the same time it's Lewis. The man is not what I consider a good source for information.I'd say The Scarlet Pimpernel is where you stop since that's generally considered the first superhero. The reason is that in WW II, American troops there read the phantom in comics and left it there.How…random.
Well, that's also how Hawaii got hooked on spam. The reason is that in WW II, American troops there read the phantom in comics and left it there.
So the tribesman thought it was tge coolest shit ever.
And South Korea and American cheeseWell, that's also how Hawaii got hooked on spam.

Aeon Flux was 1995, Phantom 2040 was 1994, and they were both created and designed by Peter Chung. The reason they look simialr is because of his character design, which he's done for a few other things as well.I don't know if they came out around that time but yes the design does have a certain resemblance in that they're very tall and thin.
Aeon Flux however was just a mindfuck.
Every place where there's been an American military presence somehow gets hooked on Spam.Well, that's also how Hawaii got hooked on spam.
Well that explains that.Aeon Flux was 1995, Phantom 2040 was 1994, and they were both created and designed by Peter Chung. The reason they look simialr is because of his character design, which he's done for a few other things as well.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Chung And yeah, that's why fucking Rugrats characters(mostly the adults) vaguely resemble Aeon Flux, and of course he's done other animation since retaining the same style.
Kinda in the same sense that Power Rangers uses bits and ideas from Sentai shows but for their own purpose.I just found out that he has done Super Sentai reviews because of Patreon, and apparently Linkara has often said he's not a big fan of Super Sentai as he grew up with Power Rangers, and is more fond of that. Which is odd, because arent they more or less the same thing?
There is still hope for a lightbringer smiling friendsLightbringer animated series on [Adult Swim] when
That and it's just not what he grew up with and he doesn't like things that are different, so he considers it to be not worth his time. From what clips I actually watched out of curiosity, Super Sentai doesn't take itself as seriously as Power Rangers does. The fact Super Sentai has its tongue affixed to it's cheek instead of being super serious, it doesn't pass Linkara's "quality" control check.
Well, the character is Public Domain, so Smiling Friends could use him while doing the Linkara voice and Lewis would have no ability to stop them or sue them, even if he had the money to afford a lawyer. There is still hope for a lightbringer smiling friends
Sentai is both goofier and more serious than PR, depending on the storyline. It has wider variety of tone. From what clips I actually watched out of curiosity, Super Sentai doesn't take itself as seriously as Power Rangers does. Check this thread for the 'college story' and you'll know why.I just found out that he has done Super Sentai reviews because of Patreon, and apparently Linkara has often said he's not a big fan of Super Sentai as he grew up with Power Rangers, and is more fond of that. I've watched both. I have been able to compare and contrast each corresponding season. I think a lot of things vary depending on the two cultures approach to the art of storytelling and the style of making a kids show. You can see similar ideas between the two, with both just taking a different spin or approach to them. Some things get lost in translation in Power Rangers (the monster design in Operation Overdrive is a great example), sometimes they are trying to copy something the sentai did but drop the ball (the characterization issues in Mystic Force being a great example).Sentai is both goofier and more serious than PR, depending on the storyline. It's not 100% unserious, but being japanese it can get pretty silly.
That's basically his opinion of everything, or he'll use it as an excuse of why he won't review older or newer comics. As Arthur pointed out though, Lewis's dislike of the sentai is that he didn't grow up with therefore it is bad.
Which is laughable given quite a few golden age runs are as good if not better than that narrow view of slop that he is desperate to stick to for no reason. Seriously, you can do entire joking bits from very early Batman where he didn't give a shit about saving or in a rare few cases actually killing his foes for example. Like imagine the jokes you could make; like how at one point Yellow Face was achieved by bad makeup and garden gloves. That's basically his opinion of everything, or he'll use it as an excuse of why he won't review older or newer comics.
At the same time he refuses to cover any of the newer shit from the past basically 20 years at this point, and by doing so is going out of his way to bother growing an audience that just isn't interested in the 80s-00s era. And no, he never bothers to do anything within the timing of some major release because he wants to pretend his content takes so long to craft into a video to upload. Meanwhile there are dozens of other youtube channels now that get more views, cover more eras and do a better job of summarizing and explaining shit even from the short span that Linkara is willing to touch all without the stupid skits and plastic toy guns.Which is laughable given quite a few golden age runs are as good if not better than that narrow view of slop that he is desperate to stick to for no reason. Also it'd probably be fun to do entire arcs making fun of how Superdickery is click-bait to support and bolster the Supes stable side comics. Who doesn't want to make fun of the time Jimmy Olsen had to marry a gorilla?
Or hell, cover their non-capeshit crap. Marvel back when it was still known as Atlas was well known for its romance and horror stuff. Hell, I actually like their older Tales of Suspense runs that do that sort of shit. DC also has GI Combat, which has Sgt. Rock, one of my favorite characters DC has in its line-up. And if that's too gritty, then make fun of the Haunted Tank, which has all that awkward energy of having a confederate ghost help his union descendant through the war via possessed tank.
It's really stupid, shortsighted, and beyond pathetic for him to only cover the same 80s-2000s era shit that honestly isn't even as goofy, good, or bad as you'd find in other eras or mediums.
I'll bluntly state that I've been out of the loop and haven't watched his garbage in at least a decade by now, ducking out when he did the Lord Vice shit and made the skits get boring as shit. I don't even know if he mocked Age of Apocalypse yet, which has one of the shittiest arcs in it by trying to force Rogue into fucking Magneto, and it's just plain creepy. If not, then damn is he bad at this, since you could've covered that when X-Men 97 was busy doing that to audience sort of applause, sort of vomiting.
There's something very funny about Linkara making a reference to Garth Marenghi of all things.
Linkara, for all his faults, at least passes the 'Do you love Joseph Joestar' test.
It just seems so fucking stupid to me for Lewis to willfully miss out on all Sentai has to offer just because "Grrr it's not Power Rangers".I've watched both. One of the things I have disliked about the sentai is how little character arcs or stories that go beyond an individual episode there are. Not that they don't have them, but they don't really capitalize on a lot of them the way they should. A lot of times it is just the basic moral of the week. Sentai has also become far too overly focused on the toys since 2001 when Gaoranger, the sentai equivalent of Wild Force, was released.
As Arthur pointed out though, Lewis's dislike of the sentai is that he didn't grow up with therefore it is bad. Obviously given that Japan considers it less taboo for kids, there are sex jokes in the series like this one below.
