TGWTG Linkara / Lewis Lovhaug - HMMMMMMM? (Dead Gay Muppet Gangbang)

It just seems so fucking stupid to me for Lewis to willfully miss out on all Sentai has to offer just because "Grrr it's not Power Rangers".
Even dumber is that as pointed out above, there's a lot of shit he refuses to touch simply because it's not the franchise he likes. A year or so ago, he was complaining about wanting more Pokemon games, and was recommended Shin Megami Tensei V since the battle style is similar to Pokemon, and he mocked people who thought he liked the Pokemon games for the gameplay, when clearly he only wanted to play them because he enjoyed the world.

Hell, as we pointed out a month ago, he spent over a decade whining and moaning about people telling him he would like Invincible if he gave it a shot, and what happens when he had it for a Patreon review? He loved it. And then not only refused to read the previous issues, he wouldn't read anything else in the series again. Motherfucker wouldn't read Ms Marvel or Mark Waid's Daredevil run when they were popular simply because they weren't series he was already invested in, despite being a Mark Waid fan and desperate to be seen as woke by mommy Gail.

You could have a genie summon a meal he's never tried before but would enjoy, make him taste it and agree that he did like it, and then he'd go right back to chicken tendies instead of branching out his tastes.

Aside from how serious he takes everything, that really is the next biggest problem of his. He has the media taste and literacy of a 4 year old that never grew up. But at the same time since we're talking about Linkara who still yearns for his "hey-day" at channel awesome and the only progress in his life or career has been Viga or whatever the fuck that thing's name is, it's obvious to everyone looking in at the idiot. Most of the time when he leaves his comfort zone and does find something he says he likes, he still expresses blatant disinterest in it. Like this JoJo shit, episodes 10-12, he first review episode 1 seven years ago. What's the point? He's never going to finish the shit, probably never going to finish Stardust Crusaders even. His more recent History of Power Rangers shit, it comes off more like disdain for the series than anything because he's not interested, doesn't like it, and only feels compelled to do it because it's still ongoing long past his expectation I guess.

His star wars rotj comic adaptation? Came out May 14th, so he wasn't even able to use his brain and have it ready to go by the obvious week of May 4th?
Transformers The Movie? Why not review that when Transformers One came out back in 2024 or at any point when any of the live action movies came out? And then he reviewed 6 issues of a transformers comic after the recent movie was out of theaters.
Spiderman, did he review any spiderman comics when the latest game came out on Steam earlier this year? No. Did he review any spiderman comics when it came out on ps5 in October 2023? Surprisingly he did!

So even shit he does like or is paid to review, half the time he still can't figure out how to time that crap for when people might actually be searching for or generally interested in it. So even when he's doing shit just because he has to, he still can't actually plan anything in a way that might even hint at getting a boost of viewership. Yet you bet your ass when any other comic book channel sees a new movie, game, or show coming out; they'll probably have something related to talk about for a video. This fucking guy could film a year's worth of episodes in the span of 2 months, and then spend the entire rest of the year coasting along and doing basically anything else as content, but just won't do it.

I think it was the YouTuber “almighty Loli” who made that argument when he reviewed Linkara film.
Edit, here is his review of it.
He reviewed all of channel awesome movies and mocked the shit out of them.
Love that guys stuff, he had a complete readthrough/analysis of the entire Berserk manga that was like 20 hours long before it got taken down. Funny dude.

There is nothing wrong with liking what you already know you like. With Lewis thought there is this repeating pattern of him not wanting to evolve and take the next step forward. We see it in how we are going on 17 years and he still hasn't changed anything significant with how he approaches his reviews.

The entire landscape of video content has changed significantly in that time and he still is stuck is archaic ways. And unlike Doug, he hasn't been able to parlay that into broader success.

For all the comparisons with Chris Chan, it’s amazing Linkara doesn’t have an autism diagnosis, since “needing to adhere to rigid schedule” and “aversion to change” are widely seen as the two things Hollywood goes to in order to show someone has autism.

Sentai is both goofier and more serious than PR, depending on the storyline. It has wider variety of tone.

It's not 100% unserious, but being japanese it can get pretty silly.
You need look no further than "Gekisou Sentai Carranger" from which we got "Power Rangers Turbo".

The Japanese version was a joke. It was a legit parody of the whole Super Sentai thing but it was treated as being super cereal as "Turbo"

There's something very funny about Linkara making a reference to Garth Marenghi of all things.
Garth Marenghi was at least done poorly on purpose. Lewis' show is just bad because he's shit at acting, writing and special effects.

I just found out that he has done Super Sentai reviews because of Patreon, and apparently Linkara has often said he's not a big fan of Super Sentai as he grew up with Power Rangers, and is more fond of that. Which is odd, because arent they more or less the same thing?
It's kind of like comparing the Pokemon games to the Pokemon anime. Yes, they're cut from the same cloth, but both have plenty of differences to stand out on their own.
From what clips I actually watched out of curiosity, Super Sentai doesn't take itself as seriously as Power Rangers does. The fact Super Sentai has its tongue affixed to it's cheek instead of being super serious, it doesn't pass Linkara's "quality" control check.
Power Rangers is more continuity-driven in some seasons, and we know how much Lewis loves worldbuilding.

Granted, this can backfire at times, like when they got to adapting a very goofy Sentai season, Carranger and playing it seriously. For those who don't know, this is the season where the Rangers were once baked into a giant pizza.

Some things get lost in translation in Power Rangers (the monster design in Operation Overdrive is a great example), sometimes they are trying to copy something the sentai did but drop the ball (the characterization issues in Mystic Force being a great example).
Other times, they tried to change things so audiences would take them more seriously. In Gaoranger, the main character was a veterinarian who was great with animals and was a very compassionate man. In Wild Force, his counterpart was basically Tarzan if he had the power to "see someone's heart" or some crap like that.
As Arthur pointed out though, Lewis's dislike of the sentai is that he didn't grow up with therefore it is bad. Obviously given that Japan considers it less taboo for kids, there are sex jokes in the series like this one below.
That's nothing. Ever watch that one episode of Goseiger?

I don't even know if he mocked Age of Apocalypse yet, which has one of the shittiest arcs in it by trying to force Rogue into fucking Magneto, and it's just plain creepy.
The closest thing I remember was his retrospective on Exiles, which had Blink from the Age of Apocalypse timeline as the leader. The first arc also had the son of Magneto and Rogue, but all Lewis did was make a joke or two about his powers.
I just tried watching his latest JoJo video. He can't say Straights' name correctly("stray-zoh"), doesn't recognize the BAOH manga(which was also Araki) that Jonathan is reading on the plane but bitches about the Get Smart! advertisement being an anachronism. "an unimportant detail in an anime about breathing techniques" first of all... he could have reviewed the manga, second demonslayer exists and singlehandedly matched out outsold the entire fucking North American comic book industry. And then he keeps calling Erina "Arena" when you can hear them pronouncing it correctly in Japanese and spelling it correctly in the subtitled version he's using for clips.
I remember when I still watched his show, he reviewed the first four episodes of Kamen Rider Fourze for a Patron, but instead of pronouncing it "Four-Zay", he kept calling it "Four-Zee".

It's not just his attitude of "if it's not in this narrow range, I will never touch it unless paid". It's not only his complete allergy to content discovery. Or his weird brand loyalty that is on par with Chris Chan's. It's that he thinks he's entitled to his own social feeds being completely free of pesky things like 'spoilers' and 'recommendations'.

The dude lives entirely on Twitter Lite(bluesky) and gets mad people send him media suggestions, or worse, discuss currently running shows. He thinks, being a reviewer persona for almost 20 years, he can demand people to not recommend media to him, but totally pay him for the privledge(in an exceedingly narrow scope), and also not discuss the latest show he might want to watch 2 years later.

Sentai has had quite a few odd semi-nude scenes and sex jokes from them. That episode of Megaranger I posted the clip from had a later scene where the black ranger walks in on the two girls in their locker room, both of whom who respond by shrieking and calling him a pervert. I remember GoGoV had a scene where the red ranger, who is literally completely naked and is using a bunched up towel to cover up his genitals, walks in on the pink ranger who also happens to be his sister as she is preparing to shower. She screams at him to get out and he has no idea what the big deal is.

I know Japan is a little less restrictive on this subject and it is all meant in humor, but it is a little weird at times.

One angle I don't think we thoroughly analyzed is how social interactions are involved in all this. We all know he is a complete weirdo who can't normally interact with people. I think there is an element present in this where he just hates social interactions no matter what they are about. Anyone entering his domain is supposed to behave at his whim.

A core component of the lolcow is a giant ego and not being willing to understand that other human beings exist, therefore not everything is about them.

I wonder how much of his demanding people do as he says being part of his entitlement, and how much is from his own attitude to brands and writers, not understanding why his own fan base doesn't give him the same level of devotion.

I'm thinking of things like the infamous Power Rangers rant or his Let the Ads Play video. Both are filled with this condescending attitude, acting like you're an idiot because obviously, you would know these things. You obviously know that Linkara has been a little bit busy lately. Why are you pretending you don't know how to white list his site to play ads on his videos?

It's why the movie was filled with so many references, some from the very beginning. Because he's convinced everyone follows and remembers his content the same way he does for DC, Power Rangers, Doctor Who and the like.
