tldw: Conferences are just gatekeeping information that you could have posted online in a better way. It's unethical and immoral to limit access based on cost and travel restrictions. There is no solution. No amount of free passes and diversity initiatives fix this.

FOSS used to be made up of academics, especially those who view it as a moral imperative for all knowledge to be free (Richard Matthew Stallman), libertarians (Eric Steven Raymond), Christians (Larry Wall), and furries (every single system administrator). As to why it happened, there's been various sieges on these groups for the past several decades. I blame the Open Source Initiative showing companies that all non-Copyleft licenses are cuck licenses, computers becoming easy enough for retards to use, and Hindus (who are included in the group of retards, lest you think I'm considering them anything but) raping tech (read: Western) civilization for almost four (six) decades.

This entire debacle perfectly illustrates how the fragile SJWs that have enjoyed Coraline's CoC protecting their own tribe and allies aren't interested in protecting the projects, the community, or those who are falsely maligned by their own anti-social and abusive behavior. I believe this also suggests just how little everyone is aware of the backgrounds of the people with whom they interact with every day. God help us if one of his co-workers went to HR with details surrounding his conviction and they just shrugged it off and told this person to get over it.

The old hacker subculture (and I mean hacker in the proper sense of the word) died out and got replaced by weird pod people that pretend to be them but are really just corporate stooges existing in some weird sanitized and focus grouped disney park version of that subculture and will only ever be as risky as their corporate overlords allow them to be. I don't think it's reversible. There's too much money and interest groups involved. I do think there are pockets holding out though. The best you can do for those is never mention them anywhere, lest you doom them to invasion by the pod people.
