Sam has to make up his mind on whether he wants to be a fringe internet comedian or a mainstream comedy figure. He is attempting both and it just comes off as sad honestly. Just because the internet as a whole is a little more edgy than it was a few years ago does not mean we are back in the wild west days of the internet, or that the world is ready to laude him as the tragic genius he thinks he is.
I think the dude is funny, but a funny person has to also realize when the bit isn't landing. And being mogged by a boomer holding twigs is actually way funnier than anything he was doing here.

Surprised no one has said this yet but if you listen from 7:10 Harland says "I love making fun of you" then asks Sam if he likes the words "Tight and ripe" which seems like a not so subtle dig about Marky. Sam notes that Harland asked the same thing before the podcast and says he had a sinister look in his eyes, then at 8:12 Sam turns to nick and if you turn the volume all the way up you can hear Sam say to Nick "See what I was saying?" to which Nick replies "Yeah everybody sees it". I think this where he started to feel like he was being set up Idubbbz style so he chimped out in hopes of regaining control of the situation.

Yeah I actually like Sam and have been following him for over a decade, but this was just a tremendous L and he has a tendency to be embarrassing and cringe sometimes but then at other times he makes me laugh harder then anyone ever has, like the whole candy man character leading up to and after his boxing debut was my favorite shit of all time, he just needs to read the room a little more and not try so hard to be under the spotlight at every single possible opportunity like on harlands podcast, it comes across as try hard at times, but then at other times it’s comedic genius like the ted talk, candyman and other similar times.

Why is this even pinned? People are taking this way too seriously. It's an appearance on a comedy podcast. I'm not familiar with Harlan, but both Harlan and Sam were pretty funny here. All in all I think it's pretty trivial compared to some of Sam's other guest appearances. Like 2 weeks ago he did a podcast appearance where he talked seriously about being a white-advocate and being openly antisemetic and no one gave a shit.

The reason no one cared about 2 weeks ago is because Sam is broadly liked for his comedy and most people don't care about his serious takes. People who like him for his political and societal takes are rabid fans who knew those were his views in the first place.
The comedy man getting out paced and made to look silly in the realm of comedy is much more noteable. Instead of engaging with the humor, like Nick was attempting, he tried to, quite literally, flip it on its head to wrest control of situation. Instead it just makes him look like he couldn't handle a boomer teasing him.

Well it seems like he wants to be the next Richard Spencer pro-white advocate more than anything these days - unless you put him in a self defense situation (do comedy) in which case he'll be force to defend himself by flipping over the game board and running out of the room. We can't have comedy from two comedians on a podcast. The thing is, I'm glad he didn't build that gorilla nest. And even if he didn't build the gorilla nest he would need to free up some space so obviously removing the desk was a good first step.

Sam was always funny in his own weird parochial way. Like I couldn't even really explain to you why the classic iPhone and mirror videos are so funny to me, it's just mocking/being self-aware about a certain kind of guy/attitude and articulating that in such a funny way.

Really he's more funny as a performer than he is telling jokes. I also find it incredibly ironic that Harland needling him and fucking with them in the same way that they've spent a solid 1/3rd of the skits of EP doing to random actors they found on Craigslist got to him so hard. It's easy when you're the hammer but nobody likes being the nail I guess.

Yeah but MDE has always existed outside of the contingent "realm of comedy", I don't think any fans (rabid or not) give a shit about comedy man being made to look silly in the realm of comedy. The only reason he's doing these appearances more often is to plug his new show, not because he thinks he can make his way back into the mainstream.

Taking control of bits and flipping any situation on its head is what Sam always does, thats his schtick. I dont think he was behaving differently here than he would've on any other show, but people are making this out like it was personal. Like 90% of Sam's guest appearances are just people who want to ask him if he's an actual literal heckin' nazi for real, it probably just caught Sam off guard that for once he was actually getting interviewed by someone who didn't care to ask about any of that.
