Short answer is lolcow crashouts happen when creators respond to extreme hostility by relying on instinctual behaviors that were beneficial throughout our evolutionary history but are maladaptive to current environments. The lolcow loop happens when someone's has a deficiency such as cognitive impairment what diminished their ability to engage in social learning or apply what they've learned.
Jeremy is more of the latter group. He understands what he is doing wrong in theory because he has articulated why this behavior is damaging in other contexts. However, the intensity of the backlash, his extremely poor mental state, chronic alcoholism, and the general absence of credible allies creates a mental state that either blocks him from accepting the nature of his position or maintaining the discipline to fight his evolved impulses to do what he knows would actually help him.
Everything Jeremy does makes total sense once you understand the specific behaviors are pretty normal in isolation. Lying, deflecting, doubling down then apologize then double down, backroom threats, etc. are things everyone does all the time and they come natural.
The uniqueness is the scale he does it combined with how obviously maladaptive the behaviors are, plus his inability to update to negative reactions.
