The Stanley Cup has been used as a dog food bowl, urine receptacle, had stuff burned in it, dropped in a fire, kicked across an ice lake. It has even been shit in.

Trump will likely do none of those things nor will he sleep with it as a number of Hockey Players have done.

Strangely enough, those things are all okay, but only the winning captain can hoist the cup.

I don't know if their rules are autistic just for existing, or I am because I looked it up.

Generally the Stanley Cup has a pretty colorful history, and it has been through a lot. But one of the cardinal rules is that only people who have won it can lift it over their heads*. For anyone else, it's a big no-no. I mean, Trump can touch it, he just can't lift it up like the players do, not unless he wants to insult hockey players and fans everywhere.

The Cup is one of the oldest and most prestigious in pro-sports, it's also one of the hardest to win. There's a lot of traditions that go with it. It is it autistic? I don't think so. Athletes tend to be superstitious and hockey players especially so. Plus there's a lot of history there, and when you work so hard to win something like that, you tend to get pretty emotional about it.
Or maybe it's just a hockey thing. I tend to get a bit spergy when it comes to sports. :o

(Look at how spergy people are getting over the whole flag thing. Which, when you right down to it, really is more of a symbol than anything)

*They'll let kids take pictures with it in that pose (with someone helping them).

This shit is about as retarded as the people flipping their shit about Tim Tebow kneeling.

Anybody else have family whose also angry at the NFL? My father whose a big football fan is assblasted about this whole situation and is refusing to watch the NFL now

My dad boycotted any team last season that had a player doing that shit. I don't blame anyone who decides to not watch NFL games if the players keep doing this. People don't want politics mixed in with their sports, and refusing to stand during the national anthem is extremely disrespectful. If you do it you're not hurting Trump, you're not raising awareness for some issue; you're just showing people you're an asshole.

I'm always amazed by the stuff that makes people drop the NFL. Its far more often drama about race stuff over how they handle players who committed acts of domestic violence, that's for sure.

Honestly, Trump's responses to this have been so ridiculous that it caused the whole mess to really explode after it was totally fizzling out, and there are plenty of /pol/tards who are clearly bothered by this. I think people deciding not to watch the NFL is totally fine, but I also think the players are free to express themselves through peaceful protest.

Why can't/won't they do something about the issues they think they're protesting?
With all the money they get you'd think they could band together and make a change instead of blowing it on pitbulls, cars, whores and gold jewelry.

When issues turn into mass protest like this, the core problem is always overlooked by the masses doing what everyone else is "because".
I have no faith that every player is doing it to protest the cause, but more so for black power solidarity. That's the sad thing, nothing will get done and it just boils down to being about race on both sides - especially when tards do the black power salute and kneel after the anthem, what is the protest really about then?

Lets get one thing straight from here on out please.

This isn't about kneeling for the anthem or the flag. Thats not it. If thats what this was about, so be it. This also isn't about some glorious protest.

This is about a bunch of fucktards supporting Colin Kapernick and his stulid bullshit. Thats what taking the knee stands for. Colin and BLM. This isn't about kneeling out of protest or respect.

Its self-destructive dumb nigger bullshit. That's why people are mad. Might as well have players openly supporting Antifa and flipping the bird during the anthem. And Id put money on this just being part of the boiling pot, involving the Black Power rally that was Superbowl 50's Half time. Nobody cared about murderers, rapist, drug dealers and all sorts of felons playing. It was a whatever issue. Now a bunch of douchebags decided to get political like this.

And Trump? Hell, he would have said the same shit anyways, President or not. Trump's gonna Trump.

I need to catch up on my history and military history, but isn't kneeling kind of a salutation for fallen soldiers in the battlefield? When one is being attended to in the event of critical injury, or death?

playing of the anther originally began as a way to calm down rowdy crowds or even in bars when there was barfights. i believe it wasn't till the early 1900's that it became a "patriotic tradition"

This is nothing more than this year's version of the Ice Bucket Challenge.
