I don't understand this indignation regarding how Chris spent his money. It's not even government money anymore, he's actually earning this shit.
People are indignant because Chris is not fulfilling orders. He's not doing what he can to take care of himself, then getting mad that others don't do it for him.

Let's have a look.

Vampyre Castle Set: 150 dollars.
Sailor Moon Box Set: Roughly 200 dollars.
Thespian Minifig: 15 dollars.
Scratchy minifig: Roughly 7 dollars a pop. Presuming that he's going to buy one for each of his electric hedgehog abominations so he can cannibalize the tail, that's 63 dollars.
Detective minifig: He was rather vague here on the specifics, so I'm going with the first result on Google. 20 dollars.
Bat People: Not sure what set he's talking about here, but he gives me the impression that he's talking about multiple replacements. Let's presume its price is between 10-20 dollars.

That's at least 458 dollars wasted on useless shit. This is just what he's told us about too. I'm not even going to mention how he outright lied about how he apparently spent the money on shipping costs.
Legos are fucking expensive. He really did get just some lego.

He replaced some stuff he lost. I'm not even mad.

He can buy all the stupid shit he wants. That's the hole he's digging and that's fine. My problem is ripping off ebay buyers. That's a dick move.

I don't think 'mad' is really the operative word here, regarding my take on this.

What I find frustrating is Chris's inability to budget and prioritize. The money he spent for the DVDs and Lego mini figs was approximately half of the money he's trying to raise to have Barb's teeth fixed. If Chris's finances were in order, Barb's teeth were fixed, and he was spending whatever was left afterwards on this stuff, then that would be find with me, and I think most of us here. That's the way a normal person budgets. Take care of necessities / obligations first, have a little fun with what's left. There's nothing wrong with that, and I wouldn't begrudge Chris a few little non-essential fun items if he'd taken care of his obligations first.

As for the whole not honoring his eBay commitment thing.... that's something else.

That's at least 451 dollars wasted on useless shit. This is just what he's told us about too. I'm not even going to mention how he outright lied about how he apparently spent the money on shipping costs.

Wow, looks like I missed a couple of items. The $451 Chris spent on this useless crap would have left he and Barb needing only another $149 to get her teeth fixed.

Yeah, there's 2 issues.

It's OK to be pissed he didn't actually fulfill the order. Go ahead and get a refund. Whatever.

Getting mad at him for spending the money is stupid. Nobody should be surprised. He's consistently showed over the last 5 years he has no sense of financial responsibility and he proved months ago that charitable contributions do not yield completely productive results. If you're buying these for any reason other than to just own one of his drawings, you're in the wrong. Nobody here gets to decide what he spends his money on and doing anything more than rolling eyes at his personal mismanagement is obsessive and controlling.

He spends his money on lego because the dude's a huge escapist. He immediately loses more than half of his monthly income to his mother, who treats him like property, and he has no joys in life. People banging on about him buying toys makes me cringe.

On a less pissy note I love him calling people dumbasses then using some pony picture. I get the context but I doubt the ponies would appreciate him being so unfriendly.

The thing is I doubt anyone is that pissed at him buying legos. As you said that's his escapist bullshit. What they are bothered by is his constant bitching about being broke when that's on him. He can buy toys but don't beg for money when we know it's on him.

That's my take on it anyway.

Sorry Null, I'm not trying to be a contrary bitch.....

You make an excellent point about Chris's need to find some sort of escape from Barb's reign of terror, and the toys giving him a lot of joy / enjoyment. I get that.

The problem is that he attempted to play on people's sympathy in order to exhort them to spend money on his eBay items. He stated repeatedly that he wanted the money to pay for bills and Barb's teeth, then goes off and spends over $400 on toys and DVDs. I think if he'd been more honest about the whole thing then most people, myself included, would cut him a break.

Anyone else confused by the use of mortgage here? Knowing Chris it is likely he could confuse rent with mortgage for the new rental home.

But...if he is referring to his burnt down house....this could mean serious trouble. No way, he can pay both a rent and mortgage at the same time.

I think we're all missing a very central point here, in regards to Chris not delivering then demanding more money.
Chris views the money he's getting more as donations to help him and "his family" than he does as payment for a product. In his mind, he more or less views the buyers who are buying his shit as people who just want to help him out, and that the product they're getting is secondary.

I don't think anyone has said "good grief" seriousy since the 70s ( not counting Charlie Brown)

the issue isn't how he spends the money. it's his now. but for him to act angry or indignant or surprised when it slows down/dries up when he uses it on non necessary items with so much looming over his head is where people are coming from in their disgust.

Chris is :stupid: and has the mind of a perhaps 6 year old child. That, and he was never taught any sort financial responsibility growing up. His parents never taught him any life skills on how to survive on his own, and enabled him throughout his entire life. His lack of financial responsibility and LEGO purchases are only Chris following his own nature. He can't help screwing up, so why be irritated by it? It's like watching someone who doesn't know how to swim fall overboard into the ocean, flounder for a few minutes, and then drown. Only in Chris's case, his financial floundering is more funny than tragic.
