Razörfist / The Rageoholic / xRazorfistx / Daniel Paul Harris - Hipster Metalfag. Game Journo-Doesn't Play Games He Reviews. Thief Fanfic Author. COOMER AND GROOMER.

Apologies for the double update, but Razor... actually did a game review! And unlike Kingdom Come he actually talks about how the game actually plays!

Amazingly enough, despite spending a third of the review sperging about how the game has a gender-neutral pronoun option and the diversity of the crew, he actually still recommends the game and think it might be his game of the year.
I'd take that with a grain of salt though because he's a huge BattleTech fan. He's made multiple videos on the previous games and the lore. He's even a backer for the Kickstarter.

He makes good points and I think is pretty accurately summing up the issues with Bethesda's current trajectory - props for not jumping 100% on the Todd Howard hatewagon.

I look forward to him bemoaning the same type of simulator-focused, less script-driven RPG he's advocated for here in five years or so when CD Projekt releases Cyberpunk 2077.

Speak of the devil........

It's frustrating because like 1/3 of the time he has a cogent point behind all his blather but he really is reaching the point where his obvious beef with certain groups of people makes him moviebob-tier predictable.

Nothing those polacks put together will ever be good enough for him even though they keep being everything he claims to want from Bethesda studios these days.

I still don't understand why he hates Witcher. Plagiarism or no, it's a breath of fresh air in the games industry.

I will say, his tard rage against Bladerunner 2049 was... well, retarded. Thing is, it was still a good sequel, and there's no way that Hollywood could've ever lived up to the legacy that the first one left behind. A 'worthy' sequel would've been impossible.

He has a really bad contrarian streak. Sometimes that leads to interesting insights (a lot of his music mythos stuff is extremely contrarian but, through that, manages to highlight the positive aspects of regularly shit-upon bands like Dokken), but usually it results in him digging in his heels and randomly a-logging his chosen targets at every opportunity. Basically he's a wet blanket trying to counter what he perceives as the resident hype circlejerk in whatever community or hobby he's discussing.

I made the moviebob comparison for a reason, as both of them tend to insert random unrelated jabs at groups in the community they dislike to the detriment of their overall point.

I remember someone in the Doug Walker thread pointing out that NC has a tendency to claim that something is bad because it's similar to something that came out before it did. All I could think about was how much that fit Razor to a T; we see this with Witcher and with practically anything by Hideo Kojima. He uses it as some sort of autistic justification to say that something sucks. The issue there should be obvious; good art comes from inspiration and inspiration can come from other works.

It doesn't even make sense most of the time; he constantly uses Blade Runner to belittle something he thinks is ripping it off. And to say nothing about The Witcher. If you aren't going to like something, fine, whatever, but trying to say that something came before it and it's automatically shit for """ripping it off""" is really reaching.

It's sad too, because with MGS he does have a point about the stealth being sub-par, compared to other stealth games mostly. Mind you, MGS is still fun AF, but the stealth part is pretty bleh.

Problem is that he is autistic about the rest. He really is like Moviebob, only he's on the other side of the political spectrum.

Can we all agree that the tangents in his reviews and videos are the big problem? He spends way too much time on Ryan Gossling’s eyes as just one example. But you never really get a review with him, which almost always forces me to watch a video twice just to figure out what his actual criticism was behind all of the gratuitous swearing and archaic verbiage

He doesn't dislike the Witcher in general. He was openly praiseworthy of the Witcher II and read the novels (he admitted in a livestream that he actually read the Witcher books before he was introduced to Elric). While he stopped reading the novels due to the plagiarism, from what I've been able to piece together from the few times he opines on the subject (because he's never reviewed the game in question), his main criticism against the Witcher III is that its a shitty RPG (and a buggy mess), and its praise as an RPG is undeserved because there are better RPGs out there and its not a particularly good one. And, well, i have to agree with that assessment. As an RPG, its subpar. Not much real roleplaying and indeed of all the Witcher games its RPG aspects are the most watered down, almost to nothingness. The combat is nothing special and heavily mash X to win based, and it is a glitchy mess, especially when riding Roach. The story is truly that game's main strong point, which I have to say is excellent.

CD Projekt Red calling out Ubishit and other companies for microtransactions is them doing God's work, you exceptional individual shill.
Believe it or not, I think he actually misconstrued that as a shot at Deus Ex Mankind Divided's microtransactions and was so sure that CDPR would take a potshot at Deus Es soon he said "quote me on it."

Then someone did quote him on it and he went from that to "I said they could POSSIBLY do it."

I can't wait for his review of Cyberpunk 2077 where he inevitably trashes the game for "ripping off Deus Ex" and being made by CDPR.

Whats frustrating is that anytime he makes points that are fine, or does a bit thats likable, he almost immediately overrides that by autistically refusing to understand something so he can do his angry reviewer shtick. Which because he totally believes the character is badass, has made him a giant gaping vagina whenever someone disagrees or tells him he's wrong.

He can't explain why he dislikes or likes something without coming across like a complete asshole. Is he supposed to be "in character" there or something?

:powerlevel:: I used to be a fan, even buying into his "REEEE shooters, anime, and JRPGS are for dudebros and weebs" bullshit, but then I saw his gamertag screenshot on ED, which proved that he doesn't even play most of what he reviews. Thus encouraged me to stop looking to a clown like this and make my own goddamn decisions (keep in mind, this was back in my high school years)
