They're marketed to people who read comics when they were younger. Part of why they're still buying them now despite them being anachronistic is that nostalgia.

Current kids are growing up without that and won't buy comics at all as adults.

I find this sad on some level, but on another, good riddance if this is what comics are now anyway.

It's also pathetic even as pure 100% straw man comics that aren't even pretending to be anything else are. They have D&C basically going "God I hate niggers SIEG HEIL" a couple times and then being murdered. I.e. shit D&C has never remotely said.

I wish someone would go through D&C's videos and try to build up enough soundbites to make a racist rant. That would be golden. Even more if people buy into it despite being Frankensteined together.

I have to respond within 20 days of this summons or he wins by default. First move is to get an extension then fight it. But I still have to hire a very expensive NY lawyer (where the suit is) and go to court to prove all this.

Some initial lawyer conversations have said that this most likely will drag out over a year and end up being incredibly expensive. Just an INITIAL retainer with 10 hours of work involved is being quoted around $10k and that doesn't take into account all the lost time from work etc that I will have trying to deal with this.

This amount I'm trying to raise seems huge but it might not even end up being the total amount needed! It is insane to me as a normal mid range poor person that this is happening. So I have to appeal to YOU for help. I don't want to let this abuser get away with silencing his victims and detractors and I will continue to stand up (now in court I guess) against him if I can find the backing through you all to do so. Thank you so much for reading this, supporting it or passing it along on your different outlets.

Also, there is no Jordan Shiveley listed as a defendant in any New York state case I can find. It would probably be in WebCivil Supreme, as George Ouzounian's was, but it isn't. Nor is there any J. Shiveley. The only other Shiveley is someone different.

Nor is there a federal case in U.S. Party Case Index.

It's possible it just isn't there yet, but it's possible that both this and his "gangrenous gallbladder" are equally fictional.

Zack makes a good point about “branding”. Whenever I see SGM, I get exited about what he’s doing, Zircher also makes me exited but mostly just to see what ridiculous thing he’s up to. Zircher is an artist and yet unlike more successful artists (like Sean Gordon Murphy, J Scott Campbell, Artgerm, Enrico Marini, etc... to name a few) barely talks or promotes his own stuff, instead he pick fight with “comic Nazis”.

People like Zircher and pals are more than happy to drag the comic industry down with them instead of helping to prevent the collapse like SGM and the very few who haven’t lost their collective shit. The collapse is pretty much inevitable, the goal right now is to push that expiration date off a bit longer.

Christ, what a shit show. I love how the "I'm half Mexican" takes up over a third of a page, complete with an oh-so-dramatic pen cup spill, that's clearly meant to emphasize that this is a huge, game-changing reveal... but already gave this away on the first page with the teacher calling him Francesco to the entire class that pretty much renders the "prove you're not a racist" conversation that follows it redundant. That's not even getting into how this comic shoots itself in the foot by not only implying that the main character's father is a dead beat, but the final page puts the "greatest fears" next to what I guess are supposed to pass as jokes makes the page seem like it's claiming that all these fears are irrational and petty - which doesn't seem like the actual intent. This is what bugs me the most about these parasitic fucking hipsters. They don't have any real respect for the medium to actually understand how it operates, so they just slap a bunch of their hot takes about Current Year together in a bunch of panels and call it a day.

Though between this and Rivera's run on America Chavez, I wonder if there's some type of disconnect going on when it comes to their Latino heritage. Their comics are way more about being Latino than are about making Latino characters to the point that if I hadn't seen the names of the authors I'd assume they were written by some sheltered white kid from Delaware.

Yes, actually. It's mostly born out of how we categorize Latinos even though it only means you come from a Spanish speaking country to the south of the United States. Any "race" can be Latino.

I brought it up a bunch of times in Rivera's thread but from what people on 4chan found out about her, she has a kind of identity crisis going on. Her family is from Puerto Rico, which is mostly "white" to begin with, but they've been New Yorkers for ages so it's all she personally knows. This combined with current culture results in the attitude you're talking about where they desperately cling to cultures they're far removed from because it's better then admitting they're basically some gringo. Haven't heard as much about this guy but he doesn't seem to be in deep enough that he has Gabby's trademark "Fake-Spanish".

This isn't unheard of in mixed kids or the children of immigrants but Latinos have it really bad right now. Not really sure if it's a fixable thing.
