I do think that Ron's "it's all PR" statement explains a lot about his own behaviour and Shane's. If that's how they view potential legal action, they're in for a rude awakening.

Mostly unrelated, but it's interesting to note that the infamous Gilles de Rais, aka Bluebeard had that kind of outrageous claims levied against him in court. It was a kangaroo court so lots of other insane and impossible claims were involved, but one of them was seriously that 'there was not one minute of the day that Gilles did not rape or murder a child'. They claimed his body count was in the thousands, which would require him to have been running the countryside wildly murdering and raping everyone he came across all the while not one person ever witnessing this activity except his two supposed co-conspirators. In one particularly amazing moment, he actually existed in two places at once so as to maximize his ability to rape and murder kids who were never actually identified.
Basically, it seems these kinds of defamatory claims haven't changed since the time of the hundred year war, and they had the same purpose then as they do now.
