As I have said in a previous post, it is no longer fun for me to watch the original anime in solitude. I wanted to be an active participant in Viz's Sailor Moon party from the very beginning, going all the way back to May 19, 2014. Watching the show through piracy will not give me that experience. My only option at this point is to wait for Neon Alley to return to Canada. In an attempt to make that happen sooner, I have started a petition on change.org. It is at this link. tinyurl.com/NACPetition
Would it be fair to say this isn't about Sailor Moon at all, but rather your desire to socialise?

That's kind of how it's coming across. You'd have an easier time getting to know people in these communities if you wouldn't say that Viz ruined your life by not having the show available for stream in Canada. It kinda raises a little red flag to a lot of people. Kudos on getting out there and seeing a professional though!

@The Obsessed SM Fan: There's also the manga. Apparently, there's a new translation out. There could be clubs or groups dedicated to manga around you.

I'm also glad you're getting help.

I have that whole line of Sailor Moon manga on my bookshelf. I've read through it a few times and I enjoy it.

The central issue here is one of experience. I wanted both the US and Canada to have *exactly* the same experience with Sailor Moon. I have been through the scenario of only being allowed to join something part way through way too many times. And now it's happening all over again here.

I still want to reclaim that experience of being able to enjoy Viz's offering of Sailor Moon *from the very day* the company acquired it, which is 5/19/14. For that reason, I am waiting until Viz's promised official stream starts here in Canada.

Merry Christmas to you too, pal.
Btw, why do you think that watching the show through Viz makes a social experience out of it?

Well, for one, Viz has been making lots of noise about it over social media (e.g. twitter.com/Sailor_Moon_NA). They are devoting the biggest share of their marketing energy to the latest episode releases on Neon Alley, calling that campaign "MoonDay". But as Neon Alley is only available in the United States, and will probably only ever be available there, it leaves us here in Canada on the outside looking in, and it leaves me feeling neglected.

Yes but you'd still watch it all alone.
Get in touch with other fans, crash at their place for the night, and watch a SM marathon together.

Mystifyingly, watching it through a simulcast really does not give me the sense of watching it alone. And Viz has been connecting with fans of this show in the US through its simulcasts. Without those simulcasts here in Canada, it gives me a serious impression that Viz is disconnected from us Canadian fans. I can't get a sense of connecting with Viz through either the discs or the DTOs.

Why exactly is connecting with Viz important? As far as connecting with other fans go I get that, but its not as if watching an official Canadian stream is the only way to do so, you know? You have a few options available to you.

I understand that. But the atmosphere I am seeking is as though Canada was legally able to watch the original anime back on May 19, 2014, when the show was first released onto Neon Alley in the US. That's the very first way Viz started distributing the show in the US, thus that's the very first way I want to see it here in Canada, and on a prima facie basis, which means without using VPNs or proxies, and with Viz's blessing.

I thought I would let you guys know that I have just had a change of heart about subscribing to Crunchyroll. I have gone ahead and upgraded my account on that service to premium status, as only premium members on that site are allowed to request that Crunchyroll pick up certain titles for streaming.

DENelson83. I think I have a "theory" on what attracts you to the show and many others. When it comes down to it all the Sailor Senshi (Except arguably Usagi) are outcasts who if you pay attention really don't interact with anyone besides each other. Usagi was the only one with friends before the group met. up.

I think this has less to do with a Sailor Moon obsession, and more to do with the fact you feel lonely and different. I can honestly relate. I have been depressed, suicidal, and everything in between. I use to obsessively watch entertainment to fulfill myself, but mine was Avatar: The Last Airbender.

When it comes down to it I believe that Sailor Moon is more of a crutch for you than anything, and in a way you are using it as an excuse and a blanket from the difficulties and pain of having to forge adult relationships. I am autistic, and I am 22 and JUST getting started on talking to people outside my family.

It is never too late for you to start making friends and hanging out with others. Maybe you can get them into Sailor Moon too. The fact I have no one interested in Sailor Moon is really just an excuse.

Have you thought about going to group therapy? Or any other group? It might be hard on the small island you are. Do you have any belief in all in God? I am not saying you have to be a super Christian. But many churches are super friendly and welcoming.

These are just suggestions. I and most of the rest of this board want you to get help.

EDIT!

I am going to make an offer to you. I have the first part of the VIz dub, and on days I don't have school you can set the time, and I will watch an episode roughly around the same time you do. Then you can PM me through the forums and we can talk and sperg about it all you want.

I have not even seen any part of the original Japanese version of the 90's Sailor Moon anime. And what I wanted was to ride Viz's wave of "MoonDay" hype all the way through the 90's show, but ended up missing out on the mania instead, all because Viz will not stream to Canada. That exact "MoonDay" experience, which started on May 19, 2014 in the US, is what I want to reclaim. That date, May 19, 2014, is what my calendar has been frozen on all this time.

That has nothing to do with my offer to you. You seem to be afraid of making communications with other people. Honestly, it seems you are using the not streaming to Canada thing as a reason to not interact with others.

Sailor Moon is an important show to many people. I have been heavily involved in the Sailor Moon fandom, and I have heard many stories of how it got people through hard times, inspired them, and even helped them find out what career they want to do. It is actually wonderful that Sailor Moon is important to you because it actually connects you to more people than you realize.

Think of this. If Sailor Moon was real would she really want someone to use her as an excuse to isolate themselves from others? Sailor Moon helped her friends make more friends and realize their dreams and do amazing things.

Being discovered by this forum, and being labeled a "lolcow" might actually be the best thing to happen to you. MOST people here smile upon self improvement, and people willing to make changes to themselves. It is actually one of the most supportive environments I've ever seen on the internet.

I'll give you an example, I had a mental breakdown several years ago, and was barely in touch with reality. I was declared to never be able to hold down a job, and put on disability. Basically just put away.

But finding this forum (largely because I didn't want to become Chris Chan) , and help from a WONDERFUL therapist made me get back on my feet again.

I am now about to start my second semester of community college. On my last day of my first semester my grammar teacher told me that I was a brilliant student, and she was honest.

This was from a girl who a few years ago was told by a professional physiologist that I would never be able to hold down a job.

Give people a chance, and don't give up on yourself. We don't want you too, and Sailor Moon wouldn't want you too either.

I am not trying to isolate myself because I already am isolated. Nearly every person I have run into in real life either has not cared about Sailor Moon or has made fun of me for being a fan of it. The only way I can communicate with other fans of the show is online, through text posts.

What happened was Viz got my hopes up for nothing back on 5/19/14. Call me delusional if you need to, but it is Viz that has inflicted this trauma on me by not letting me or any other Canadian fan in on the fun from the very beginning. It has driven a wedge between me and Sailor Moon, and it has drained the fun right out of Sailor Moon for me. The damage is done, and only the people at Viz have the power to fix it.

And remember that I still have absolutely no legal access to Viz's online offering of the original anime, and I will not watch that offering through piracy.

So you stopped loving what you love just because a company didn't do offer it to you? That's pretty weird that your love of it can just be so easily swayed.

If I got that upset anytime a company screws over any of my favorite series, goddamn.
