Are.. Are you seriously insinuating that nowhere in the Bill of Rights was the individual right to carry a firearm present until 2008? Chris I know you're a journalist but buddy, it's been there a fuck of a lot longer than Scalia. The Bill of Rights, including the 2nd Amendment, does not say that the government grants these rights to the people. It declares that the people already have these rights, and that the government can’t take them away.

In District of Columbia v. Heller--which is what I assume you're talking about--the court held 5-4 that "The Second Amendment protects an individual right to possess a firearm unconnected with service in a militia." That doesn't mean that Scalia popped out his fairy wand and magically made the Second Amendment's terminology something completely different, that means that the Supreme Court looked over the Second Amendment and ruled that's what it always meant. They didn't change it, they clarified it.

The Bill of Rights isn't there to limit the citizenry, the Bill of Rights is there to limit the government. Get bent you disingenuous nerd.
Do you think Chris Cuomo has ever read Blackstone's Commentaries?

St. George Tucker said:
This may be considered as the true palladium of liberty. . . . The right of self defence is the first law of nature: in most governments it has been the study of rulers to confine this right within the narrowest limits possible. Wherever standing armies are kept up, and the right of the people to keep and bear arms is, under any colour or pretext whatsoever, prohibited, liberty, if not already annihilated, is on the brink of destruction. In England, the people have been disarmed, generally, under the specious pretext of preserving the game: a never failing lure to bring over the landed aristocracy to support any measure, under that mask, though calculated for very different purposes. True it is, their bill of rights seems at first view to counteract this policy: but the right of bearing arms is confined to protestants, and the words suitable to their condition and degree, have been interpreted to authorise the prohibition of keeping a gun or other engine for the destruction of game, to any farmer, or inferior tradesman, or other person not qualified to kill game. So that not one man in five hundred can keep a gun in his house without being subject to a penalty.

Who am I kidding. Cuomo probably can barely read a teleprompter.

EDIT: As the late Billy Mays would say, "BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE!"

Tucker (a respected American jurist and professor) wrote the above in 1813. The title of his book was an homage to English jurist William Blackstone, who wrote in his own Commentaries (over 1765-1769):

The fifth and last auxiliary right of the subject, that I shall at present mention, is that of having arms for their defense, suitable to their condition and degree, and such as are allowed by law. Which is also declared by the same statute I W. & M. st.2. c. 2. and is indeed a public allowance, under due restrictions, of the natural right of resistance and self-preservation, when the sanctions of society and laws are found insufficient to restrain the violence of oppression.

Silly Nazi, the only unalienable "rights" you have are to make yourself a parasite. All the hard drugs until your brains dissolve, all the sex until you contract diseases, all the food until you're too fat to move!
In fairness to the idiots who believe in the inherent goodness of the Fed you have to take into account how shit and full of indoctrination our education system is.
And how shit parenting has become too.
Some of them just never had a chance.
And some of them are just boot lickers who want the g-men to stomp on people they don't like.

I wonder if they ever regret that 2005-2010 internets era of terrible spyware/malware/popups that prompted so many people to get script and ad blockers and never stop using them.

That would require introspection and advertisers are fucking idiots.

You also assume these people give any fucks about sustainability of an industry. This is like asking if the hedge fund guys who made 150% returns over 6 months by forcing Toy'r'Us into a chapter 13 regret their decision.
Fuck no they don't. They got their money and got out.

Same with advertisers from the aughts; they don't care; they made money, got out, and are making money doing something else now.

When you act like feels > reals, it might?

Oh what am I saying, Trump could literally cure AIDS himself and be accused of mainstreaming serophobia

"Is Trump's AIDS cure an attack on Gay Identity?"

In the aftermath of this, I wonder how many conservatives getting shut down will lead to wanting to protect free speech versus increasing the desire to turn the table and be the ones holding the boot to the throat.
Then again, "conservative" is a vague term so it probably depends on what kind.
The Left spent the last two decades hating the Right Wing no fun allowed antiscience Fundies and corporate boot licking Neo-Cons only to become just as censorious, pro corporate,anti-intellectual and authoritarian as them in the mid 2010s.

At this point I don't see either party as the "good guy".

I have a random anecdote that I figured this thread would find interesting:

By chance I overheard a conversation today between a black man and two white democrats; The whites were more pessimistic about their chances in 2020 while the black man insisted that minorites would fall in line because "if they don't they get more Trump"; He said he would accept Harris because of this.
He also felt that it was critical that Democrats win now because if they lose 2020 they will overcorrect further than he thinks they already are about too (on this I think he might be correct).
Finally he kept up a mantra saying that "in no time in history has there been 4 consecutive presidents that all had two-terms".

So today I learned there is at least one Harris support that exists in real life, and that supporter is all onboard the demographics-is-destiny train; I'm curious to see if he ends up correct, or if this is another sign of increasing delusion about 2020 (maybe somewhere inbetween).

At this point, Trump's alt-right critics have no one but themselves to blame. I remember a bunch of alt-right/reactionary types fetishizing Trump as the great, white savior of the West that was going to make out with Putin, expel every Jew from power, and make America a white paradise. The man does not have a racist bone in his body, for all of his faults. He let his daughter marry a Jew, for pete's sake. In fact, he's likely the most "left-ward" of any Republican president since Eisenhower. Now, when it turns out that Trump won't commit political suicide for their movement consisting largely of trailer trash and autistic neets, he suddenly "cucked out." To make it worse, they fetishize Andrew Yang, Tulsi Gabbard, etc. who are actually anti-white. Given the right circumstances, these guys would be Bernie Bros if that meant they could eff over Israel.

I'm beginning to believe that the great political pathologies of today - SJW's/Breadtube, Liberalists™, alt-right - are just reincarnations of the same, cringey, edgy 2000's liberalism. "Bush is stupid, hur hur." "Israel is evil." etc. I can't wait til these guys pass from the political scene.

I'm more interested in the consecutive terms thing. I've wondered it myself recently if the string of multiterm presidents we've had is just historical luck or something about modern society. What really was Clinton's chances if Ross Perot didn't run? How much of an outlier is Bush Sr's presidency in the last 40 years when he basically a 3rd term Reagan? Have the candidates changed or has America become more complacent and agreeable?

You forgot the ol' "inflation means you're making money when you borrow money" chestnut.
I'm going to tl;dr this that using a bank's interest return is not a great metric for an investment because you're not taking into account full risk of the market, unless the only other thing you would have done with that money is put it into a bank; and the people who put money into twitter were not going to put their money into a passbook savings account.
Its really inapplicable in this case because two billion is how much cash Twitter has burned through; they've raised much more than two billion. Plus good chunk of the money they burn goes to paying back loans & obligations to early investors; the smart folks have been getting their 2% and then some.

But that's immaterial because its also not really about making money back, its about having a fucktardedly inflated stock price you can ride to make more money, and try to not be the one holding the bag when people stop believing the hype and start really looking at numbers. Twitter went down to $15/share in 2017, and is at $42/share today. A 300% return over two years selling shares to suckers beats the $0.20 per share profit.
Or to put this another way, Twitter had a max price of almost $70/share. If you bought in at the max (and assuming the stock price stays at $42, and revenue stays at $0.20/share/quarter), it will take 150 quarters, or almost 40 years, to make back that $30/share of lost value. Conversely, twitter's IPO started at about $40/share and was $70/share in about 3 months; if you had bought IPO shares and sold them at that max, you'd have made $30/share - 40 years of current twitter profits in two months.

That's where the money is, the fact twitter has stopped burning cash and is making a few cents a share is just a nice bonus you can use to lure in more suckers.

Anyway, I was a little pessimistic. I'd forgotten Twitter made $1.2 Billion in 2018, and they made ~$300 million in 2019 Q1, so they will have made more money than they burned by year's end if 2018's trends continue for 2019.
(Another correction, the two billion they've burned has been since inception, not since IPO)
Well... yeah but i was trying to keep it simple and basic for the noobs. ;)

The Trump supporter who organized a clean-up effort for all of the trash laying around in Baltimore neighborhoods is now being attacked by the Baltimore Sun for helping to clean up all the trash in these neighborhoods. ... What? They cleaned up twelve tons of garbage and found trash dating back to fucking 1999 I'm reasonably certain that the neighborhoods weren't doing a stellar job on their own. He even implies that the newspaper they found was staged, as if some random dude just kept a newspaper from Obama's election sitting around for more than a decade just so he could plant it here. That is conspiracy-tier insanity.

Seriously, read that article. Here's an archive of it. Just read it and tell me that you can't feel the contempt and Ivory Tower elitism oozing out between every word this person wrote. That is just incredible, I can't believe they published this.

"In the meantime, we’ll see how clean the neighborhood still is when he returns in September. :smug: " As if that would be his fucking fault!
