Star Wars Griefing Thread (SPOILERS) - Safety off

Hey man, I get most of my fix on other franchises. Dont slonder me so.
It's called libel if it's in print. And it's not libel if it's true; there are star wars buyers that act like alkies in denial.

The buying every single edition of the same fucking movie is something my old pal Cole's dad does; and I bet he does it even with Nu-Wars even if he hates it.

Ive always found that just buying exactly what you want gets the point across. Just not engaging with disney at all isnt gonna send them a message on what people actually want. Sure they could listen the the voices on twitter, but that's exceptional. The reason why something like the mandalorian got green lit is because Disney saw (surprising no one) that Boba Fett stuff always does really fucking well.

You should be able to buy what you want if you want it. Thats not to say the people who buy literally everything that comes out arent problems, but thats more of a problem with their brain. If you like stormtroopers. Sure, buy a stormtrooper action figure, youll get more characters that look like stormtroopers. Cutting cold turkey in some sort of protest goes about as well as the occupy protests.

As for overall numbers, merch is in the shitter compared to prequel stuff, and thats because one of your previous statements is wrong, the people like the people in this thread who still buy stuff almost have no effect on overall merch sales. Its all children, and children just arent asking for rose and holdo figures. The "hardcore" fans or even older star wars fans barely factor in. Also, as for buying tickets, the over all success of the movies is secondary to this franchise and its naive to think otherwise, the already mentioned merch is what matters. Whether the movie is critically panned or loved, if it flops or makes 10 times its budget. What matters is the merch.

While I do understand where you are coming from, its just a naive stance. Also it does make you come off as MATI.
A complete boycott of Star Wars* if it succeeded * will just make Disney think it's a dead brand.

Selective buying actually does send a message.

Disney is well aware the only things people are buying are OT stuff ergo they know the ST is vastly unpopular. Which is why Iger is all but begging the old fans to watch episode IX and insisting that JJ is totally listening to fans.

Not with the current batch; they'll just abuse memberberries and do the same thing again with new cast but try to hide the fact they're just having a maniac wear the IP's skin. They'll learn that yes, the ST is shit, but will keep doing the same stupid shit because of a mix of politics, conservatism, toxic corporate culture, and their soy filled marketing telling them what's in.

You need a full teardown IMO.

Oh yea no doubt there is the superfan that rants and raves while buying every figure that comes out like a lunatic. But in all my years in toy collecting, they are pretty sparse. (mostly because of the huge monetary).

The message Disney would take from a full Star Wars boycott isn't "We fucked up" it's "people hate Star Wars now". Iger's already blamed the ST's failure on brand fatigue before.

I'd be fine with that. Because I'm sure that even if Disney refused to learn, somebody else watching the trash fire just might. Even if they don't, letting Star Wars die or go dormant is a better fate.

For those following weeb wars, does anyone else see a passing resemblance between current day Daisy Ridley and Monica Rial, 10-15 years ago?

Worst-case, they cancel all current projects, and shelve the IP for a decade. Shareholders will want RoI for that four billion Disney spent on Lucasfilm, and shelving the IP and passively collecting dwindling merch and licensing revenue won't cut it.

Honestly, they could right the ship today buying out Kennedy's contract, pink slipping all the smoothbrains that have ruined the IP who are being shielded by Kennedy, and filling their old positions with people who understand Star Wars and actually give a fuck about the franchise's health. It may take a year or two to start getting post-Kennedy projects out the door, but the good will firing Kennedy would generate would keep the brand alive. Straight talk, even at this point, who wouldn't leap at the opportunity to work at Lucasfilm and help fix Star Wars?

Disney's so risk-averse, especially right now, they're not even willing to shitcan Kennedy and deal with the backlash despite the fact she's so radioactive even attaching her name to a project damages it. Even if the BTS speculation is true and she's been chained to her desk. If RoS fails to beat expectations, they can't afford to run out the clock on her contract. Her ass needs to go, and it needs to go yesterday.

Conscientious consumption is the message of the day, here. Buy the good stuff, stay away from the damn merch, and don't drop dimes on garbage. Help send the message the IP's still solid, all Disney needs to do is course correct.

Disney execs believe the "core" starwars fan is a mindless consumer whore who will continue to give them money no matter what, that they will consume Star Wars product no matter how shitty Disney treats the franchise or the fans; that a core facet of their identity is giving money to who ever holds the rights to Star Wars either directly, by buying tickets & media, or indirectly by buying licensed product.

Even if you find that view offensive, its hard to disagree with them reaching that conclusion given disturbing number of fans who continue to behave in exactly that manner. With limp excuses.

"Its not nuWars stuff"
"I have to see how it ends! Its a failure anyway"

That doesn't factor in when they look at quarter end sales. If people are giving money to the Rat despite what it's doing to the Star Wars, and letting the likes of Cuck Wendig do to Star Wars, they shouldn't wonder why Disney keeps turning out utter shit Star Wars media.

Rate me Mad or whatever because I'm calling people who are technically adults out on being unable to stop buying toys, comics, or movie tickets.

Because you, the person still giving money to the Rat, you are why Star Wars sucks now.
But it was always going to suck. Fans didn't have the power to change who would be put in charge, and didn't have the benefit of hindsight until Star Wars already sucked. And they aren't a hivemind who could have all decided instantly that they didn't like TFA or some comic and weren't going to give Disney a single cent more, or all voiced their unanimous disapproval of Chuck Wendig like the Borg. If you're still consuming Star Wars after bitching about it endlessly, that's dumb sure, but there's a sea of people who don't follow this stuff and are just going to see whatever big blockbuster is coming out, and any course correction is going to be slow if it happens at all.

One key difference is Monica knows when to close her mouth. Daisy Ridley probably has enough money for better dental work than Monica's horseteeth should she ever date a psychopath with a tendency to beat people with TV remotes.

Star Wars fans ARE mindless whores. At least all the ones I've met outside this thread. Allow me to provide anecdotal evidence.
My friend, who is normally a very smart man, went and saw TFA and he said it wasnt that good at all. He then went and saw TLJ and proceeded to spend several hours razing it to the ground in front of me. He swore he'd never go and see another Star Wars movie again.

The dumb fucker went and saw Soylo and spent several hours bitching about it to me after.

He is now bragging about how good the Mandalorian is. I can't wait for the other shoe to drop on his dumb ass so I can overdose on schadenfreude and finally shuffle off this mortal coil.

I just dont understand. Why the fuck do you keep going? They called me paranoid for waiting to see if TFA would be any good (I remember Star Trek JarJar you useless hack, I remember) but I was vindicated and it has coloured all my interactions with post-Lucas Star Wars. I haven't touched a single piece of Disneywars media, haven't played a single game, haven't read a single comic, haven't watched a single episode of a single tv show, because I saw the writing on the wall after TFA's rather lackluster response in certain circles and now the extent of my participating in this fandom (god that word sucks) is to watch it burn with you fucks.

I havent been burned at all by Disney Wars, he has. He's spent maybe, what, 100 bucks if you include popcorn and shit? And I can guarantee you he'll still go and see TROS.

So yes, it seems that when it comes to Star Wars, the fans are mindlesss whores. Even when they aren't in the rest of their lives.

I saw 1.5 seasons of Lost (got tired of the constant wanking over the MYSTERY! by like disc two, hit wikipedia, then proceeded to remove all future discs and season from the netflix queue) so knew what JJ was likely going to get up to with TFA, and that for most things there would be no payoff - and any payoff there would be would disappointing and completely stupid. I did not quite expect Johnson to go... that heavy on shitting all over the franchise, including VII.

And what your describing is the machine i'm raging against this fine, cold Sunday: people who should know better hating the shit sandwhich they've been served, saying how much they hate it.... but continuing to go back for seconds, while also buying the $20 souvenir T-shirt, the $15 trucker cup, the $10 mug, the lapel pin, and then coming back to their seat, wiping the corn from the corner of thier mouth and saying "I just don't understand how this place stays in business! They could make so much money if the food was good. Hopefully its good when come back tomorrow like I've been doing religiously for the past 10 years"

The number of posters in this thread buying tickets/planning to buy tickets and making excuses for doing so has been sad.
People lacking even the basic self discipline to even wait till after opening weekend to give Disney money for a product they claim to not like.

Ive always found that just buying exactly what you want gets the point across. Just not engaging with disney at all isnt gonna send them a message on what people actually want. While I do understand where you are coming from, its just a naive stance. Also it does make you come off as MATI.

Naive is still buying anything star wars branded. I posted earlier, a total Fan boycot would send one hell of a message. Failing that not buying anything star war branded, regardless of era, until Plan 9 leaves theaters (Ideally the not until after the end of the quarter it happens, but even I'd admit that's too 'tistic to figure out) would also be very effective messaging. People seem to lack that basic level of control.

Parents buy shit for their kids, and adults man-children account for a a significant portion of merch sales, particularly high-margin sales. The Black Series has been selling well, they keep expanding it, and it is DEFINITELY not aimed at Children. High-end Japanese figures are not aimed at children.

You can buy what you like. But understand what you're doing when you do buy that shit: you are telling Disney you like nuWars. So don't be surprised when you get more Woke shoved into star wars, and don't get buttmad when you get called out for funding this shit by giving money to the Rat. As @Adamska said, you'll do whatever mental gymanstics to justify getting your next wave of toys, just don't get all offended when you're called out on it.

I'm not immune. I got talked into seeing Rogue One with a paid-for ticket; I didn't give the Rat money but someone did. (Did turn down a ticket to TFA & TLJ though.)

I want to see exactly how bad the Master and Apprentice novel is. Yo-ho-ho...

edit: To give an idea of how "popular" the new books are, it was several months after it was published before anybody bothered to post it to libgen.

Personally I think free too high of a price and I prefer to not even give the Rat's fanfic space in my head, but I accept that's both a personal choice and an extreme hardine approach; I can't see taking actual issue with people who aren't feeding the Rat and at least take to the high-seas instead.

A complete boycott of Star Wars* if it succeeded * will just make Disney think it's a dead brand.

Let me tickle your brain with this:
Its 2015 in an alternate timeline. TFA comes out. There is a complete, 100% fan boycot on all things Star Wars.
Based on the abysmal box office & merch, Disney cancels all SW projects and never makes anything Star Wars related ever again.
Are you going to seriously try to convince me that TLJ never getting to theaters would be a bad thing?

Sometimes dead is better.

Selective buying actually does send a message.

Disney is well aware the only things people are buying are OT stuff ergo they know the ST is vastly unpopular. Which is why Iger is all but begging the old fans to watch episode IX and insisting that JJ is totally listening to fans.

Please fully consider the topic of this thread, and the posts & arguments made thus far when you read the following:
For reasons too autistic to get into, you are wrong in the short term. In the long term, yes, they will be breaking down SKUs and seeing what sold well and what didn't.

What they are looking at now, what they are taking to investors and shareholders, is raw numbers. Those numbers have not great. They've been getting worse. The shittier that raw figure is when they're tallying up total trilogy dollars, and especially Episode 9's portion of that take.... The harder Episode 9 tanks, the better odds they're going to sit back and really think about what went wrong and how to not fuck it up in the future. I mean it is not merely a corporation but Disney, so odds are they'll learn & apply the wrong lessons, but maybe they won't. :optimistic:

Again, if you are too much of man child you can't just completely walk your wallet away, at least don't buy anything till like June. Tank the numbers, tank them hard. Do you part to slap the Jap Rat.

But it was always going to suck. Fans didn't have the power to change who would be put in charge, and didn't have the benefit of hindsight until Star Wars already sucked. Sure, Normies are going to Norm, that's a given. That's not an excuse for people who should know better to go with the herd.

You, the person still giving money to the Rat, you are why Star Wars sucks now.

Admittedly I'm guilty of going to see every Disney Wars movie up until Soylo, which was around the time I started tuning into YouTube/Twitter, seeing the backlash, and saying, "Yeah, fuck this. I'm with you guys. I loved Star Wars more than anything as a kid and this has all been an utter betrayal." Since then the only SW-related thing I've bought are Sideshow / Hot Toys figures of Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker from RotJ. I'm not paying for Disney+ and I really don't care about Fallen Order.

Speaking of, where's the video @damian

I like the idea of supporting what you like in the case of Jedi Knight rereleases and OT toys, but @Ghostse makes a good argument about why a full boycott is the only effective course of action. Fortunately I'm so utterly detached and disgusted with Lucasfilm and Disney today that I don't have any bones about not buying anything Star Wars for the foreseeable future. Not until KK leaves and takes her zealots with her.

Meanwhile I've still got the old LucasArts library and EU books to dig into, including a rousing game of Rogue Squadron on the GameCube.

This idea you keep mentioning extremely autistic. Despite what we would all like to believe, people do legitimately like the rat movies. Trying to force them into not buying shit because you dont like it is hilarious. Also the fact that you are talking about timing like it matters is very cute, but very stupid, and shows you arent really in the know on how merchandising works.

"man-children account for a a significant portion of merch sales"
wrong

"particularly high-margin sales."
double wrong, while high end japanese figures are also high margin, most of the money is made off those cheap 1/6 figures that you see everywhere, and product similar to it.

"The Black Series has been selling well, they keep expanding it, and it is DEFINITELY not aimed at Children."
triple wrong, they are the figure equivalent of impulse items you have at cash out. Their target audience is anyone who watches starwars. This is the reason why you see more obscure characters get figures, because they is no risk to making them.

"High-end Japanese figures are not aimed at children."
And barely account for over all profit in the overall merchandising, star wars isnt even bandai's best selling line.

Explain how buying boba fett and darth vader translates to disney thinking i love new wars? ill wait.

"As @Adamska said, you'll do whatever mental gymanstics to justify getting your next wave of toys, just don't get all offended when you're called out on it. "
You are making wild accusation from seeing me post 2 toys in this thread, and really it comes off like youre positively seething that I bought them. Like I said to Adamska, i bought them because I wanted a Darth Vader and Boba fett, they are literally the only 2 pieces of physical star wars merch I own.

I was giving you leeway before, but now you just look like your mad that people are consooming ANY product just because the mouse bought it.

A second season of Dragon Maid?
Pretty sure they mentioned that they wanted to do a new season, but don't expect it any time soon. The arson really fucked up the company and IIRC they lost tons of material too.
No one knows what a "fandom menace" is outside of a small group of hardcore dorks (myself included) who are either super angry about their favorite franchise sucking or, in my case, find the drama from a megacorporation drunkenly bumbling their way through an IP everyone thought was guaranteed money incredibly entertaining. We're a minority of a minority. I doubt the sum total of people self-identifying or knowing of that term makes up even a whole percentage point of the general audience.

For context, Worldclassbullshitters is probably the biggest channel popularizing that term, and his biggest videos about Star Wars drama managed 1 million views over the course of a year. Most are in the 100-200k range. Compare that to the ~70 million people in the US alone who bought a Last Jedi ticket.
It's great how a multi-billion dollar company and multi millionaire directors have such a chapped arse in regards to them though. The smallest amount of non shill reporting and / or push back regarding shitty writing has them REEEEE-ing to the hills. Hopefully we'll get more PR pieces crying about them, then we'll really know the box office is in trouble.

While a full fan boycott would probably send a message, good fucking luck getting it to ever fucking happen.
My own method is to ignore the existence of anything Disney themselves shat out and happily buy the shit George Lucas shat out. Vader statue? Fuck yeah! Obi-Wan poster? Now you're talking! Luke's lightsaber? Lay it on me!
But a Kylo figure? Why would I want that when I can get the actual good villain, Vader? Why would I want a Rey doll when the Amidala dolls were far better? Why the fuck would I want L3-37 when I can go get IG-88? Why the fuck do I want an uninspired nu-stormtrooper when Clone Troopers and OT Stormtroopers still exist?

Just buy the old shit and avoid the new shit. That sends a message in itself when they realize that their ST merch is losing them money but the PT and OT merch are still selling. I mean, there's a fucking reason that they still make Vader merch 40 years after the OT came out and that's because people WANT more Vader. Who the fuck wants an emo Vader wannabe when you can have the original actual Vader? I mean, maybe at best buy a Kylo figure just for the lightsaber which would look badass wielded by Vader.

That feel when you would totally be down for a good bossk or durge figure but they arent popular enough to get them.

Some people do, sure. But that doesn't mean if you don't you need to join the rush. Its ok to stop, its ok to not buy toys...or buy other toys.
And the fact you think timing doesn't matters shows you definitely don't know jack.

You are making wild accusation from seeing me post 2 toys in this thread, and really it comes off like youre positively seething that I bought them. Like I said to Adamska, i bought them because I wanted a Darth Vader and Boba fett, they are literally the only 2 pieces of physical star wars merch I own.

I suspect I'm waisting keystrokes here but: Corporations do two levels of number crunching. High level and granular.

When you buy your star wars toys, or any merch, the Rat gets a cut. This goes into a large pot that gets reported to high level executives that is labeled something along the lines of "total merchandising renvenue". This is what gets reported up the chain and shared at upper management and board meetings. When Iger has to report earnings, do think he gives an ever loving fuck if disney's 15% cut came from action figures or a dishwasher, let alone if it came from OT, PT, or new movies? Or most of the investors? No. He just sees "Total Merchandising Revenue (In Millions)" on the report.

So when Disney management is looking over 2019/2020 sales to see if Plan 9 made money, your Fett and Vader are going to show up in "Total Merchandising". The message this sends to those at the top is 'Those consumer whores really hated the film, but damn if they didn't buy toys! Make another.'

At a more ground level, when they are thinking about individual lines, then yes. They usually crunch individual SKUs, parse feed back, talk to suppliers about what they saw from consumers.
But the arguments there are just about as dumb. "But Ghostse, if I don't buy the Black Series Rebel Fleet Trooper #69, they'll never make a gold-plated Ponda Baba post-lightsaber amputation varient! If I don't buy a ton of merch now, how will I get disney to sell me other merch later as they keep shitting on the old material?"

And there are those mental gymanstics mentioned earlier.

I was giving you leeway before, but now you just look like your mad that people are consooming ANY product just because the mouse bought it.

You, the person still giving money to the Rat, you are why Star Wars sucks now.

The fact your bothered by that is like a drunk getting angry at an AA meeting.

It won't happen, I get it. But again, just because there's a bunch of people funding the Rat is no reason for you to do it.
If you hate what disney is doing to the films, why buy ANY stormtroopers?

People super uppity about the mention of waiting like 7 months to buy more toys.
