Broken Age was my last straw as far as paying attention to mainstream game reviews, it drew a hard line in the sand for me.

The usual suspects were hyping this game and I was looking forward to it. I'm certain that any mention of this title is either nepotism or payola. It is Legitimately one of the most boring games I have bothered with (and I spent hours trying to like it).

I thought Broken Age had some interesting concepts, but god, the second part of the game was total garbage. Wasted story, wasted characters, frustrating puzzles (and not in the good way), and an abrupt ending that also managed to be insultingly lazy. This and Shaffer's terrible behavior during that time pretty much shattered all the good will I had for DoubleFine.

Broken Age is only mentioned because Tim Shitburger was one of the biggest anti gamergaters at the time. Like, Trump Derangement Syndrome level. The last decent game he made was Brutal Legend in 2009 - which was delayed and hampered by the dumb tower defense parts that no one asked for.

There were better, more successful crowdfunded games that could have held that slot, like Axiom Verge, Stardew Valley, or Undertale. But Kuntaku is gonna Kotaku and make sure their butt buddies get their dicks stroked.
Axiom Verge and Stardew Valley weren't crowdfunded, and Undertale is shit (although right up Kotaku's chute).

Broken Age was the first big successfully funded kickstarter, thus its place on the list. Now, it may be that it was only successful because Tim was game journos' darling, but it was hugely influential. Many better, based devs went on record saying Broken Age Double Fine Adventure was what got them to consider crowdfunding.

Whoops. You're right. I could swear Axiom and Stardew WERE KickStarted. Thanks for the correction.

Regardless, Shovel Knight, Bloodstained, ShenMue III and even Mighty No. 9 deserve that slot more. All of those except Shovel Knight pulled in more KS cash than Broken Ass, and while Shovel Knight did not rake in as much KS money, it sold better and got way more critical and fan acclaim.

And then , of course, there's Star Citizen, which has accrued $80 million in crowdfunding.

Oh, and who could forget the $85,000 that Chelsea made from KickStarter....I wonder where that game is at?

Tim can get DoubleFucked.

You can't really justify Depression Quests inclusion in the Kotaku article because Depression Quest wasn't the catalyst for gamergate. The only connection to gamergate is that it was the subject of one of the articles Nathan wrote in exchange for getting his dick sucked.

It could also be argued to be the game that set the trend for kickstarter games being scams, with Double Fine making a shit ton of money and still needing to split the game in 2 in order to finish it.

Edit: I got the name of the Kotaku writer wrong. I fixed it.

They spent too much hiring celebrity voice actors.

There's a reason no one in the industry wanted to work with Tim, forcing him to beg for money on Kickstarter. There's usually a reason MOST veteran game devs that beg for money on Kickstarter even though they used to work for big publishers are begging for money on Kickstarter:

They're irresponsible with money and have no management skills.

Exactly. Tim's other games from his Lucasarts heyday utilized voice actors rather than big name stars, and they were fun games. Getting Elijah Wood to voice the main boy character was just Tim trying to flex, just like all those dumb photos he posted online of himself getting fanned with wads of cash.

$3.5 million dollars sounds like a lot of money, but aside from most indie games, it's pocket change for AAA scale games with a whole programming team and voice actors.

Yeah, $3.5 million is a lot for a few guys, but imagine splitting it between like 50 people as 2+ years salary.

No one cares about Zoe Quinn either, but here we are.

The upside is that her career is dead and gay. Getting pity assignments on comic books nobody reads to fill diversity quotas, her Kickstarter career is dead, her Patreon is barely chugging along, etc. Not much for her to look forward to. She was really hoping to become a professional victim again until Alec hung himself.
