its not only that he gets them immediately. i think the main reason he wants tips is because he gets the most out of it.
if someone wants to cheer 10$, twitch gets 50% (i think) and he only gets 5$. if someone tips 10$ he gets almost the full amount.
he basically wants to cut out the middleman (twitch).

From my understand (since I'm not partnered), Twitch gets their money from the cheerer when they buy the bits to begin with and the cheeree gets the full amount. So when someone cheered DSP 10,000 bits last night, DSP gets the full $100 and Twitch gets $26 because it cost the cheerer $126 to buy those 10,000 bits.

Now, if you are saying that DSP prefers tips because then he gets 100% of the money, i.e. he gets the full $126, I can't argue that.

But I believe the most likely scenario is because DSP can't plan ahead for a month at a time. This is the same man that doesn't even attempt to set aside any percentage of his income as he goes along to pay his quarterly or yearly taxes because "he can't afford it."

No, the person who purchases the bits pays the extra fee, not DSP.
If they want to cheer 100 bits they pay Twitch $1.40 and DSP gets $1

If they donate $1 DSP gets ~$0.67 after the flat $0.30 paypal takes and the 3% paypal takes. There's an additional 1% fee if DSP does an instant transfer, but as far as I can tell he chooses the 24 hour option.

DSP only gets 50% of Tier 1 subs. (Tier 1 is $5, DSP gets $2.50 and Twitch gets $2.50)

EDIT: More information: Bits/Subs are delayed until the 15th of the next month (https://help.twitch.tv/s/article/net-15-payout-faq?language=en_US Twitch Net 15 FAQ)

The only "middle man" he can cut out is the stake Twitch takes out of the sub amounts; they don't take anything from his Cheers or donations. He only does sub goals because he pretends to "get" Twitch culture.

Someone postulated the theory that DSP spends money as soon as he gets it, which is what dug him into this massive debt hole that he's in and why he has so many gizmos that have only been used once and so many overpriced statues and other collectibles, and also why he has nothing for a nest egg because he had no foresight to think to save anything he made, he thought he would be making his $250k/year on YouTube forever. This is the only reason I can think why he'd prefer tips is because he can get the money immediately and spend it immediately.

Either that or he's afraid of being suspended and Twitch not paying him his balance of cheers/subs if something happened before his Net 15 payout.

Do bits work similar to subs in that you get "paid" once per month the lump sum you earned?

I would think so. Bits and subs are handled by twitch so I would assume they put them together when they pay out. Tips go through whatever system you personally set up, PayPal, streamlabs, etc. so that's an entirely different entity processing that money. You probably could post your address and ask people to mail cash to your house if you wanted to. That is why tips are handled different from cheers and subs.

Yes. Bits and subs are put into a lump sum on the 15th of every month after Twitch gets their cut. You can notice that too in Phil's language regarding twitch paying him.

"I just gotta make it until Twitch pays me." as well as "Tips are funds I get right away."

Ya boy Phil is so bad at managing his "funds" or "Khantrabutions" that he can't wait a month for Twitch to pay him his amount, whatever it may be. He's apparently so dried out for funds that he's willing to read out in full length any 50 cent cheer to full length. Either a 50 cent cheer or a 1 dollar tip is enough to start a 30-40 minute boomer rant about "Old YouTube" or "Jhan Rambo and Howard", so you know he needs those instant funds to put towards the random new bill that's due today.

i'm petty sure bits can be redeemed when you reach $100 worth, but not sure how long they take to process

As long as a streamer has hit that threshold for payout, they are paid out by the 15th of the following month. So cheers and subs received during the month of December would be paid on Jan 15th (or the closest day if that falls on a Sunday).

Someone complained about the pre stream being too long. Phil just said he needs the pre stream because he is not like other streamers who start the stream and spend an hour not even playing the game because they just talk.

...what? I don't even
phil's logic is literally "other people shoot you in the leg, but i shoot you in the arm, so that's all okay"
something like that
"it's okay i do it because i do it before i officially start the stream"
it's like he's gerrymandering his time slots
the question is:
but how would he know how other streamers do it if he doesn't watch anyone else?

his own schedules say the stream starts at 10:15, so if he showed up at 8:30 to start the 30 minutes of music, then 1hr15 of rules and shoutouts, then start gameplay at 10:15 it would make sense

His horse watches other more successful streamers.

Calzone is not pizza!

He have never ever in his entire life eaten a entire pizza in one sitting!

There is never any drama on his streams, it is just stuff detractors make up!

You dont have to give him any money, it is ok, he will stream for free because he loves gaming...

There are people who loves his personality and just wanna watch his streams because of it!

So how many actual friends do you have Phil? Friends that dont have to kiss your ass to avoid being banned from your stream and forum, that needs to give you money to be on good terms with you?

Blames his viewers for making pre-stream so long!

I dont think it is his viewers that make him answer every question with 10-15+ min answers...
A ordinary pre-stream:
  1. 20+ min "music".
  2. 30+ min of him talking about himself.
  3. 30-40+ min of answering questions in the most eleborated way he can.
  4. About 10 min break!
