It is indeed heartbreaking. Came from Jim's stream and it was tacky of him to laugh at this. We're witnessing what has potential to become an actual genocide in front of our eyes. I get he laughes at everything, but still.

OTOH, it probably makes some people feel bad to say it, but at least it's not us (at least not yet). We can't do more than praying for these people. Most of us will be fine, but China as we know it now might never recover.

Dunno if this has or hasn't been posted yet.

>Amidst the situation in China, several Indian states have admitted people in hospitals and are keeping many under observation for suspected symptoms of coronavirus. Till now, India has reported three confirmed cases of coronavirus from Kerala. According to the Ministry of Health, a total of 5,123 are monitored under home surveillance. In Karnataka, about 83 people with the symptoms of coronavirus are kept under home isolation observation. The Karnataka Health and Family Welfare Services department is observing patients in Bengaluru, Tumkur and Mysuru. The officials claim that, as of now, no positive cases of coronavirus are reported from the state. As a precautionary measure, the government has imposed surveillance in Karnataka districts bordering Kerala including Kodagu, Mangaluru, Chamarajanagar, and Mysuru. Moreover, Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) has conducted thermal screening for coronavirus on 10,184 passengers from January 20 till Wednesday. About 22 suspects of coronavirus symptoms have been reported from Punjab. Other places where people are being examined for the symptoms of coronavirus are Hyderabad, Odisha, Delhi, and Manesar. Kerala has witnessed the maximum number of suspected cases. According to the Kerala Health Minister, KK Shailaja, a total of 2,421 people have been put under observation including 100 people in quarantine facilities. People who have returned from China must stay at their homes for 28 days. On Wednesday, three coronavirus suspects were admitted in the hospitals in Uttar Pradesh. The suspects are monitored in the government hospitals in Balrampur, Agra, and Gonda districts. According to the reports, all three individuals recently returned from China and showcased flu-like symptoms. In an official statement, Director of communicable diseases, UP, Dr Mithlesh Chaturvedi said, "The three patients have been kept under observation while their families have been checked to rule out flu. Their samples have been taken and sent to NIV Pune to check for coronavirus." In addition, the health officials from the state have collected 18 suspected samples, out of these six have tested negative for the virus and the results are awaited for the remaining ones. On Wednesday, the Indian government organised a high level meeting to review the actions and preparedness on the coronavirus. The ministry revised the travel advisory for people travelling to China. The press statement stated, that the existing visas are no longer valid for any foreign nationals travelling from China. In addition, people traveling to China henceforth will be quarantined on return.

tl;dr Shit just got real.

Poor virus, a few weeks old and still no official name. Is WHO stalling to save face for China? There are precedents for naming illnesses after the locations that they seem to originate in: Lyme virus, Norwalk virus, Spanish flu...heck, even the American Legion couldn't shut down 'Legionnaire's Disease'.

Perhaps they will go to a different naming system that will be less offensive. Maybe something like Hurricane names where we can have outbreaks of the 'Becky' flu or 'Chuck' disease

Doesn't matter, Wuflu is going nowhere.

I get where he’s coming from in a way, but some of the shit he was showing was truly horrifying. Like those quarantine camps are literally just concentration camps where they send anyone they suspect of infection to die. If you got a high temperature from anything you’re pretty much dead, because if you aren’t infected with corona before you got to the death camp, you will be. It’s just odd to me the government would round up the suspected infected and concentrate them somewhere. I guarantee some of those people who are roving around town are themselves infected and are very likely spreading the virus themselves.

Here's a video why the government approved mapping services or in accurate.

If you want a more accurate map of China please use OSM (open street maps) which is the main mapping system that the citizens of the PRC use.

GCJ-02 (colloquially Mars Coordinates, officially Chinese: 地形图非线性保密处理算法; literally: 'Topographic map non-linear confidentiality algorithm')[15] is a geodetic datum formulated by the Chinese State Bureau of Surveying and Mapping (Chinese: 国测局; pinyin: guó-cè-jú), and based on WGS-84.[16] It uses an obfuscation algorithm[17] which adds apparently random offsets to both the latitude and longitude, with the alleged goal of improving national security.[14][18] There is a license fee associated with using this mandatory algorithm in China.[15]

Okay this got both my geographical and open source autism riled up. This sound very retarded, a scheme that only waste everybody's time and energy that I feel like is mostly there so that various officials and business men could get extra bribes for the license fee for this DRM-esque bullshit.

The levels of horror witnessed there tear at the soul. Particularly telling is the crew removing the body make no effort to prevent the guy from filming them with his phone. They’re not caring about CCP appearances anymore. At least not the poor people on the ground bringing out the dead.
If the number of unhospitalized critically ill--and thus the dead--is as high as we've been speculating they are, then those guys on body-removal duty have been working long shifts trying to keep up with their duties, and don't have the time or energy to argue with randos taking video--as soon as they load one body, they're off to pick up another. They're also wearing protective gear that is hot, uncomfortable, and hinders their peripheral vision, so between that, and focusing on getting the task at hand done so they can get out of there, they probably barely notice the person filming them.

When it comes down to it, the body-removal crews are just overworked humans with a difficult, stressful, physically and emotionally draining job, even shittier bosses than usual, and heavy penalties awaiting them if they dare talk openly about the things they've seen. I'd be pretty fucking numbed out under those conditions, too.

There was a comment earlier today asking why the government was herding the sick (and suspected sick) into horribly unsuitable and ill-equipped temporary hospitals, rather than allowing people to shelter at home. I suspect it's primarily to make timely body removal and disposal easier because they are mostly in one location, rather than scattered throughout the city. The purpose-built Huoshenshan hospital is for the worst cases, held on lockdown in a maze of cells well out of the public eye until they die or recover. The ward hospital at the convention center is for less serious cases, but as soon as they turn serious, they'll probably get sent to Huoshenshan, because letting them stay and die in full view of the less-sick (and their phone cameras) would look bad.

At Huoshenshan, body removal crews could keep mortuary vans parked at strategic locations around the facility; the weather's been cold, so they could just keep adding bodies over the course of a day, leaving only when there were enough to make a run to a crematorium. Or, they could store bodies in refrigerated tractor trailers, which is common in disaster zones even here in the US.

It would take a lot less manpower to handle body disposal this way than it currently does by going house-to-house in city neighborhoods on an on-call basis. It also means they are less likely to miss bodies, especially in cases where somebody lived alone and died unnoticed.

It's obvious that these temporary hospital facilities are there for containment, not treatment--but not just containment of the infected who might spread the disease, or containment of bodies for easier disposal, but containment of information, as well. Keeping the dead contained, concentrated within highly-controlled spaces, means nobody outside the hospitals (or China) can get a more accurate picture of just how many people are dying. With far fewer mortuary vans on the streets, and far fewer chances to video bodies being removed from houses, it might be possible to create the illusion that things aren't so bad, or are letting up.

It's the Chinese Flu whether they like it or not. If someone plays dumb and asks what that is I'll say "The flu you get from eating raw bats or boiling dogs alive. I can't remember, maybe it's the one they got from eating tiger penis. Whatever, all I know is it comes from China."

They recent we had had no link to China: Avian Flu, Swine influenza. I doub they will like it to be called "Bat Flu".

Speaking of, I decided to check how the AH1N1 did here in my country. First, I'm wanna note that, when the whole deal blew up, I had a very cold flu with fever (I never had those) and I didn't die. Nobody else in the house had it either. I had three kids and recently gave birth. I guess I was healthy enough. Anyway, we hit about 5000 cases in the first three months and the first death was a child with Down syndrome. The next deaths were vulnerable people with cases of obesity, asthma, previous lung diseases, heart-related conditions.. The first death happened two months after the first confirmed cases. Only 159 deaths were reported out of about 8000 cases until September. We hit 10K cases in 2010 after we got vaccinations (which I dont' remember I ever had...).

I know these aren't the same, but just be sure you're not in the vulnerable cases. Eat well, do excersise, stop smoking if you can.

I suspect strongly that, like SARS, this isn't going to have much of a death toll outside of China. Except in India, they're fucked. But everywhere with anything resembling a modern understanding of hygiene and medicine is going to have far fewer deaths right out the gate thanks to not thinking ground up animal penis is a valid medical treatment plan.

the point isn't death as much as disruption as pointed out earlier in this thread w/r/t bioweapons. imagine if the entirety of NYC was shut down due to hyperflu. if wall street was shut down for a week, that'd be a chunk out of someone's bank account. now imagine several US cities shut down due to vomiting and shitting. not only does that completely stop your economy and create social unrest, it costs you billions upon billions in cleanup (literally and metaphorically).

the more i think about it, i wouldn't be surprised if we eventually find out that this was an experiment gone wrong from that BSL facility. welcome to the future, comrades.

indian scammers get rekt.

my plan: make a call center for the indians. tell them you have a cure from vishnu but it will cost 213,637 rupees in amazon gift cards.

So the new flights bringing bringing people back the the USA will be landing at Lackland Airbase in Texas and Eppley airfield (civilian airport) in Omaha.

Why Eppley and not Offutt Airforce base 12 miles away since returnees from Wuhan were going to be quarantined at military bases. Dont think there is any other place in Omaha to do that and it would be stupid to drive them through the city. Could be all of the runways were damaged in last seasons floods but wouldnt that be stupid? Why not pick a base with a working runway then.

I know they sent few of those doctors that caught ebola to Omaha a few years back since the National Ebola training and education center is there but I didnt think they'd have enough quarantine for a planeload of people.
