Diseased #Comicsgate - The Culture Wars Hit The Funny Books!

The more I learn about Gotham High, the more disgusted I am. Who is this for? This is reminding me of when WB execs wanted a Batman(Bruce) in Highschool cartoon, but the team was smart enough to know that idea was shit and made Batman Beyond instead with a fresh cast

Yes, but not every book out there falls under “wokeshit”. I could buy both hardcover editions of Grant Morrison’s current, excellent run on Green Lantern off of Amazon for less than EVS is currently charging for two reprints and an ashcan. No single book by Donnie Cates costs more than 30$ either. The paperbacks for Spider-Man Life Story and Batman White Knight, both fairly recent and excellent books, are also less than 20$ online. If you’re buying the right product, Marvel and DC are still putting out better value than any single CG, or CG adjacent, book with perhaps the sole exception of Doug’s monster gold-trimmed hardcovers.
True, but this is still not much of a threat to CG books. They're marketing to people who know they could get a cheap DC or Marvel graphic novel, but would rather pay the 25 bucks anyway if not get both books. Anyone buying a CG book is either done with the mainstream or has the cash to support both as they please.

Yeah, this is Marvel and DC just celebrating that the buyers they hate are completely gone, and/or it's a spite suicide to hopefully be dissolved and just kept as an IP.

Which is sad, consider AP is one of the few indies still doing somewhat well.
Thanks to YBZ's lawsuit we found out that the Dunn's had to drop 75k(?) of their own money into AP the prior year in order to keep the lights on. That's not doing well by any stretch of the imagination.
Somebody make it stop already....
The ride never ends

That's it.
I didn't want to contribute to this thread because you weirdos keep circlejerking about/with EVS and bitching about autistic fags on Twitter, but this GENUINELY pisses me off.

Henderson, you may not have gotten into comics for money or acclaim but you still got it despite EVERYTHING you've done. I bet you got into comics because no doors opened for you after working on Venture Bros and the dryspell made you mad. (Venture Bros is a critically acclaimed show so already that was a fucking lie.) Whoever you gave a happy ending talked to chose YOU to do Squirrel Girl over Gurihiru who did the Last Airbender comics. And Marvel kept you on despite being one of the first PC/SJW books to tank in sales. You STILL got paid and praise despite the ugly art, crazy stupid writing (which isn't her fault but even good art can make bad stories tolerable), awful sales AND got a fucking Eisner for it.

THIS is what happens when your dog pees on the carpet and you don't rub its face in it. She thinks she's hot shit when everyone who isn't her friend of a friend or twitter kissup hates her guts. The same can be said for Antos who uses every last drop of the 15-minutes of fame from the molkshake incident on the weekly and got promoted. This may be their idea of coping with the fact their careers are over thanks to Coronachan but even then it's insane. There's thousands of comic creators who would've killed to have the jobs they had. Yet here they are: two diversity-hire twats yucking it up on Twitter acting like they didn't help speed up the inevitable bubble bursting for the top companies in the world and screwed over genuine comic lovers.

Nobody is calling movies or tv shows "comics", you ugly chink. If a movie or a show is based on a comic, it's called a Comicbook movie or a Comic-based Tvshow. That way people can look up the source material. Something you and your "folks" don't do but still get jobs. I need a drink.

How was that ever considered even remotely an own on anyone? It was utter cringe.

Am i one the only one who thinks this "COMICS ARE DEAD" click bait videos are out of hand? Marvel and DC will still be around because the same people who complain about "muh mainstream" will still watch the movies and buy the games or buy the comics for the hate reviews. It's ying and yang, without the sjw comics most of cg channels wouldn't make it to 10k subs. Like for past 3 years there's a click bait antisjw channel saying "Marvel and dc dead?!" But in reality they'll be here for another 100 years. With the amount of money they make from tv shows, movies, toys, and video games they'll probably survive this. But I do expect more farming ips to idw or doing a huge overhaul. But all of these channels saying comics are dead but at the end of the day they'll still buy the products like the comsoomers they are.
No one is saying the franchises will go away. Marvel Studios will continue. As will Marvel Entertainment. But the comics are going to go away. The comics industry will go away. At best, Disney and WB will just outsource it to a poor quality overseas sweatshop to make low effort tie ins for the films. But Comics as a professional business is going to go away. It is not a profitable venture. Marvel Comics and DC are going to die.

Batman Beyond honestly seems like the best case scenario to arise from that ridiculous demand. I recall it being pretty good, which you would expect with the involvement of the original animated series crew like TImm, Dini and Conroy.

But Comics as a professional business is going to go away. It is not a profitable venture. Marvel Comics and DC are going to die.

The parent companies will probably keep them on life support, if only to maintain the IP and copyright footholds.

Ok I've actually read the article and the premise is horrid. She admitted she doesn't know shit about Batman and every change is purely because she's Chinese and that's all she's knows. I repeat myself, but this book is for no one.

Radically Altering Batman And His Mythos
After admitting she has no clue about Batman, De La Cruz then details her lack of knowledge doesn’t matter because she’s radically altering the character anyways.

She explains, “Bruce Wayne is the billionaire. He’s the richest man alive. So I thought, wouldn’t it be fun if his family was Chinese and from Hong Kong? That made it feel real.”

De La Cruz then details she’s basically telling an autobiography of her own life using a DC Comics character, “There’s been a big influx of wealthy Chinese people who moved from Hong Kong to Arcadia in Los Angeles, and that’s where my mom lives, I’m part-Chinese, my brother lives in Hong Kong, so I thought it would be great to put what I know into Bruce Wayne. I just wanted him to be a little bit more representative of my background and giving him an authentic family.”

As for how Bruce becomes a billionaire, a preview of the graphic novel indicates the money comes from his mother, and his mother alone.

She then admits that Alfred will be gay. She states, “Alfred is not just his butler but also his uncle, his gay uncle from Hong Kong. It gives it this fabulous Crazy Rich Asians sheen to it.”

And the husband modeled the Joker after himself. Seriously fuck this book, no one buys Batman books to read about masturbatory self-inserts.

Probably already mentioned, but the Gotham High shit is literally the same thing the WB wanted back in 2000. It was a small miracle that the DCAU team was able to turn it into Batman Beyond.

Also, why am I not suprised that the woke comic crowd are the first to step in for the unemployment bread line...

I really hope the industry survives this. I really think DC has the best approach right now. Keep digital going and expand it, then look into setting up a multi tiered distribution system for physical to resume down the line. I just hope they make sure to keep the system going when Diamond starts shipping again. This whole catastrophe should be a massive wake up call that the Diamond monopoly was a massive mistake.

They hired writers like de la Cruz because they just want enough materials - even if they don't sell - to be used as a foundation for a new Umbrella Academy-style series on a streaming channel.

de la Cruz loves to introduce a passel of hot guys for her SASSY! SPUNKY! SNARKY! heroine.

The above excerpt alone has the heroine meeting three hot potential love triangle - square? - materials in the space of one single chapter.

Writing a teen soap opera that just happens to feature characters with the same names as some famous DC ones is right up her alley.

Ben Dunn while cutting the fat also amputated limbs by cutting almost all of AP's butter and bread altogether by getting rid of mangas, mangaish comics and adult comics

True, I almost forgot about that, I think the editor that took all the furry stuff to form Radio Comix also picked up a lot of the adult content. The manga and related 'zine content just went away.

Thanks to YBZ's lawsuit we found out that the Dunn's had to drop 75k(?) of their own money into AP the prior year in order to keep the lights on. That's not doing well by any stretch of the imagination.
At least they are able to do that. A lot of companies from the 80's & 90's indie comics scene have had it worse. Fantagraphics almost went out of business in the early 2000, and a few years ago had to crowdfund $150k (?) to keep the lights on; Slave Labor Graphics is a husk of their former glory, and pretty much closed themselves to new submissions a few years ago, but it looks like they're rebounding. While researching this post I came across this gem, Tundra Press, where Kevin Eastman blew through several million dollars of that sweet TMNT money in trying to start a small comic press, and apparently helped kill Kitchen Sink, too, though a failed merger. (I think I'd stopped seriously paying attention to print comics by that time, indie or not.)

So all I'm saying: $75k? It could be worse.

Regarding Gotham High, it’s like they’re trying to imitate Riverdale, but not grasping why Riverdale was a huge success to begin with.
