Todays news: very slight spike in cases. We expected them to go up after reopening, specially with so much exceptionalism on the first day. Seeing news about "positive results" from Gilead's drug, but can't find the actual paper. Anyone have link to real paper with info on control group, sampling, etc? By how it's reported, it almost sounds like they just compared to two different groups both using Remdesivir but treated differently, but maybe media just sucks at reporting on clinical trials?

Immediately, two people come out, without masks, done with their shopping, so I don't know what to think.

At this point, governments should be looking into ALL Chinese assets and ties, and thinking about repatriating land, buisness and IP as compensation for having to completely shut down economies.

I was thinking about something like this. Whether it is at all possible, or just fantasy.
It would require the close co-ordination and agreement of US, EU, UK, Japan, rest of Five Eyes etc and all major allied countries.
1) Leaders of this cabal discuss approach:
a) Honestly evaluate the economic damage done to their countries. Produce robust defensible reports.
b) Secretly draft equivalent legislation in each country. Call it similar names even. "Chinese Virus Reparations Act 2020"
2) Said legislation confiscates assets held by Chinese corporations or individuals. To fairly compensate for the damage caused.
3) Enact the legislation in a co-ordinated fashion across the world.
4) Profit???

It would have to be done by a strong majority of all the major players in the world, or you'd just ruin your country's rep for a very long time. Same reason it would have to be legally and economically honest. But, once you had a quorum it wouldn't matter if Trudeau or Ardern etc tried to back out.
Once you had a good mob going you could invite African nations to join, give them help with the legislation etc.

- Pros . Democracies get control of their strategic industries back, Governments get assets they can run, or privatise to offset the massive costs. Fucks China hard.

- Cons. Requires secrecy and co-operation between a lot of diverse regimes. Avoiding Chinese agents would be nigh-on impossible.

I was going to hit the Walgreens last month when the lockdown was announced. I saw a sign that said they were not giving the $20 cash back on purchases due to Coronavirus. Like, what? Why? You handle cash already!
Maybe they just didn't want people to come in and buy some cheap candy bar to get an ATM-charge-free twenty-spot. The store is in the ghetto after all.

While I agree, it's the timing that's suspect here. None have been required to date and we're ready to come out of lockdown. Had they done this at the outset, I suspect it would have been more effective for prevention of spread than it will be once lockdown is lifted. Truly my only point. Will there still be plague zombies running around out there after lockdown? Likely so. But our numbers here in AZ have plummeted dramatically and continue to do so. The value of making EVERYONE wear a mask at this point seems a bit moot to me.

I'm actually surprised this shit hasn't gotten into hot water with SEC. Basically all the media has been reporting have been vague assurances that Gilead's studies are "positive news," but the only results they've provided are that patients treated longer on the drug might have worse prognosis compared to patients treated for a shorter amount of time.

Might as well say "my treatment of smearing shit on the faces of severely ill patients resulted in 50% of patients being discharged". It really seems like it would be better to hear nothing than to hear potentially misleading drug information. Peer review is fucking important for a reason.

They're doing studies on twins to see if they can find a genetic component to how serious the virus is. Symptom expression seems to be 50% genetic, rest is amount of viral exposure, comorbidities, environment, and lifestyle.
