Shakespeare is still around, but gets wokeified like everything else. If a theater is putting on a production of The Tempest, chances are good they'll make Prospero a woman, because they can't stand the thought of a patriarchal man having that much power and moral agency. If they put on "The Taming of the Shrew" at ALL, they'll turn Kate into a husband-murderer at the end because she's obviously a victim of torture and PTSD.

Which is a shame because the taming of the shrew is great play with an important life lesson for all women. If you want to be happy dont be a bitch.

SHUTDOWN SHOWDOWN
Shelter-in-place order from Tuesday March 24 to Monday April 13. Friday, May 1, Friday, May 15, May 28 May 1, maybe? (archive) (executive order saved on KF) . The Republican-controlled legislature has refused to extend Governor Whitmer's emergency authority. Governor Whitmer insists her emergency orders are all still in effect (Rundown on the laws).
State attorney general Dana Nessel (D) is also leaving enforcement of the stay-at-home order to local discretion until the courts weigh in on it (archive). She has stated Governor Whitmer's orders are valid and are to be enforced (archive). The legislature is not calling for civil disobedience at this time (archive).
The legislature has filed a lawsuit against the governor (archive). The defense must submit arguments by May 12, and oral arguments will be heard May 15 (archive).
State senate leader Mike Shirkey (R) is also supporting a petition drive to change the law. Such a petition would require 340,047 signatures to be collected by May 27th. It would be veto-proof if approved by the legislature, and would go on the November ballot if denied by them (archive 1, archive 2, archive 3).
U. S. Rep Paul Mitchell (R - The Thumb) has filed a lawsuit independently against Governor Whitmer, in federal district court. Link, pdf on KF.
There have been at least six other lawsuits against portions or the entirety of the shut-down order, in various stages of progress and in various courts (summary of eight lawsuits). However, "all deadlines applicable to the commencement of all civil and probate actions and proceedings" are suspended until the end of the states of emergency and disaster. Executive order, and thus in limbo. (archive).

The attorney general has left it to local law enforcement to close businesses, as her hands are full with price-gougers and con artists (archive).
The police cannot, at present, pull drivers over simply for being out during the shutdown (archive). Local police in the rural north and in Detroit suburbs have alike stated they will not be enforcing parts of the order (archive).

OFFICIAL DEATH TOLL

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services reviews deaths and adds overlooked cases to the count three days a week: Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. Recovery counts are updated on Saturdays.
67 deaths were added today.

MDHHS said:
Regular reviews of death certificate data maintained in Vital Records reporting systems are conducted by MDHHS staff three times per week. As a part of this process, records that identify COVID-19 infection as a contributing factor to death are compared against all laboratory confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Michigan Disease Surveillance System (MDSS). If a death certificate is matched to a confirmed COVID-19 case and that record in the MDSS does not indicate the individual died, the MDSS record is updated to indicate the death and the appropriate local health department is notified. These matched deaths are then included with mortality information posted to the Michigan Coronavirus website.

It's just politicians being opportunists in the worst way possible, remember Pelosi delaying the stimulus bill to try to see if they'd pass some of her ridiculous demands out of desperation?

People forgot real quick that the first stimulus proposal was fucking awful. In the original proposal you would only get the $1,200 if you made OVER $75,000. Was Pelosi's bill too much? Absolutely but one could have seen that as moving the goalposts.

Dr. Campbell's video about Vitamin D doses.

tl;dw - you need more than the 5-10 micrograms found in multivitamins to get your blood vitamin D levels up unless you're white and are constantly sunburned. He takes 50 micrograms. Taking over 100 micrograms is not advised unless your doctor tells you too.

A couple of observations from a grocery worker:

  • "Dougs" (thanks @afternoon_tea for the name) have became a nightmare. In our store, they moved the card reader in an awkward location that most people don't notice at first because it's in the same location where people first load their groceries. For most people I need to tell to move back because they're in the way of the card reader, they usually get it pretty quickly and move back. "Dougs" on the other hand look at me and the person who needs to pay like we're speaking a different language and it becomes a game of "What's that? I'm deaf in one ear!!!" before they get it. Afterwards, they fuss and whine about having to move back, etc. Also, one "Doug" actually said limiting toilet paper is "equivalent to communism".
  • Atmosphere is also loosening up here (this is Ohio, BTW). People are still in masks yet not really afraid of each other anymore. Store went from quiet as a mouse with the exception of the register beeps to now a bit more louder with people talking.

I have a new clownworld moment for ya buddies! A game called War Bot gets people on twitter to use the algorithm to fight. It's kind of fucking retarded. And on twitter. But some have fun. So anyway. In spain the game got some traction after our autists managed to abuse the algorithm to win world war bot 2020. Because if there's one thing spain wins by far is the conquest for more autists per square meter. And some spanish sped decided to make a "famous war bot", with a bunch of famous people. Most spanish. Some international memes. Here's more in depth description: https://www.elperiodico.com/es/extra/20190706/guerra-twitter-famosos-espanoles-7535653

So anyway. The bot at one point pitted Santiago Abascal, leader of Vox, the party that's been spreading so much bullshit against keeanu fucking reeves. And as you can imagine. With ample help from international autists rooting for their breathtaking daddy. This got people to turn "Mata A Abascal", (kill abascal) the command needed for the algorithm to declare a decissive victory for keeanu, into a trending fucking topic. Long live autism! https://cinemania.20minutos.es/noticias/keenu-reeves-mata-santiago-abascal/

Now that is not where this ends. I mean. So far it's just been dumb internet fun. The fun starts when the few nutjobs that are still somehow believing Vox are now spreading conspiracy theories about this being a plan by twitter to mind control people into doing it and claiming they want to start the second civil war! Fucking hilarious! Twitter right now is just recieving this tidal wave of tweets from a handful of accounts with less than 18 likes tops just constantly spewing forth their uninterrupted autistic meltdown. It. Is. GLORIOUS. I'll see if I manage to find an archive of some of it tomorrow so I can translate. It's utterly insane. I love it. Holy fuck this is so fucking funny.

I'm saying it, because I'm fuycking drunk and I don't give a shit: this lockdown bullshit is stupid and pointless. This disease is not a world-ending pandemic. We're destroying our economies for a virus that would have been dismissed as normal ten years ago. Everything is rətarded, everyone is stupid, I just want a god damn orange without having to stand in a queue for an hour. Jesus christ!

Not drunk... yet, but I'm right there with you. (If I was able to, I'd give you a DRINK! rate, but settle for a "feels" for now.)

This is the world now, every time a chink coughs in China we are gonna have a lockdown for 4 months.

Alright phase 1 is in! Almost everyone went straight into phase 1. Madrid is the only autonomy that got told to sit this one on phase 0. And aside from that barcelona and some other heavily affected cities and the megacities except for seville have been kept on phase 0 but most of spain is now on the path to freedom. Total normalcy except for borders is phase 3. Borders reopening is phase 4. Phase 1 is the reopening of bars, museums, spectacles and other tertiary sectors but with reduced aylum. And the beaches, natural parks and well everything that's an open space.

Hilarious fact of the day. What we have seen a massive spike of is spaniards seeking to migrate to the rural and semirural areas, specially the ones tellecommuting. They made many of the transactions before but until phase 1 they couldn't actually go to their second homes. And we've seen a fucking exodus as a result. As it seems the nation's gotten the memmo that megacities are deathtraps.

This is specially hilarious due to politics. The right wing has always tried to push people out of the rural areas here in spain. Partially this is due to them being globalists. Partially because the rural areas are much friendlier to guerrillas like the GAL and ETA which were a pain in the ass of the regime and it seems the PP wishes to ensure they can't go back to that if a new regime happens... I'm sure it's nothing. But most importantly it's because of madrid. As I told you before. Ellectoral law in spain is broken. For many reasons. On of the big reasons is that our provinces have a different number of seats asigned to them. This is supposedly by pop density, though it's coded in a way that not only do denser areas have more seats. But indeed have so many that a vote from a rural or semirural area actually is worth much, much less than one from a dense area. But this doesn't end there. Basically. The way seats are won, getting over half of the votes of the country means nothing, so long as you get them from the wrong areas. Madrid and Barcelona hold the keys to government. Period. And the way the equation gives an advantage to the "winner" of each region, if someone is to get 60% of the votes of a region, they can get well over 90% of the seats if the rest of the vote is divided in 2 or more.

As such, PP's long term plan was to pander ceaselessly to madrid and keep expanding it like crazy. They even refused to stop the building of the "zona norte" to try and pull even more people there. Hoping to keep madrid's left divided and right voting for them so they can ensure victory.

Welp. Now with our small biz based infustry decentralization comes naturally and centralization requires strong artificial investment, as jobs tend to localize around the resources fast. The one thing keeping the exodus from going into overload was the consumer base being localized artificially. And now we both have a strong push towards tellecommuting and a population that is trying its hardest to escape the megacities.

Yeah those plans to turn madrid into new york have just gone to hell. And I'm fairly sure the current gov will be more than happy not to stop the migration. The more they spread the better as far as most are concerned.

Only question is what will this do to madrid's economy. But they still have a long way to go before they really crash. Plus it's not like they have the kind of extreme poverty NYC sees and they still have a middle class. So they won't fall that hard. And honestly I for one am quite happy with madrid suffering economically at least a little bit. Because cadiz is a great place to live if you tellecommute, and it seems spaniards have noticed. So my tiny broken province, so long pushed down and ignored, is now seeing a large influx of money as people start buying homes. And expects an even larger influx of people and money as people keep migrating. So it seem madrid's woe is going to drive us forward. I talked before about how bleak our past and present have been, and how the future looked... Seems that ends here. Our fellow spaniards have come with help. And they wish to stay. If this keeps being like this and job creation naturally follows the migration I might be able to find work home and stay in the city I love. I'm fucking crying.

For the record. Shakespeare isn't mandatory here in spain. Never was. But I'm fairly sure that has less to do with nationality and more to do with english being a second language here, you know. Unless you're also reading Cerbantes, El Lazarillo de Tormes, La Casa De Los Espiritus, El Esperpento, Ortega, el Guardian Entre El Centeno, and all that shit.
Don Quixote is common in high school/college. But try reading La Celestina when the only Spanish you know is from your HS teacher or the Mexicans around you. Not easy readin'.
It's more than that. Shakespeare is part of normal speech for us burgers. The Bard kind of predicted what life would be like in the US, gave us some useful ideas and phrases that are just part of the culture.

"Out, out damn spot!" is something I say a couple times a day, after wolfing down another bag of cheeseburgers.

"With this spot I damn thee!" is what I whisper every time I train a laser sight on a jogger.

"Get thee to a nunnery!" comes up every time I meet someone's Mom.

It's just normal, everyday speech in America, nothing exceptional.
Oy vey you forgot “If you prick us, do we not bleed? if you tickle us, do we not laugh? if you poison us, do we not die? and if you wrong us, shall we not revenge?" when the 7-11 pajeet overcharges you for a pack of cigarettes.

1000 IU is 25 micrograms for anyone with the same brand of vitamin D as I have.

$1.37/$1.38 for regular in my area, I win

Was never a contest. ☺ Gas here is always more expensive than just about anywhere else in the country, due to special formulation and all the taxes. Happily, we aren't driving that much these days and car is fuel-efficient.

Check this out. Hilarious. Musk is crazy enough to do this. Hope he does. Fuck Alameda County and fuck the Democratic People's Republic of Kalifornia.

I've got my stocks of the vitabiotics 1000IU . It's been out of stock for ages though, along with a few other top end immune support choices. There are always alternatives though. Good to know I'm not hitting any risky upper limit. I know you're generally safe with C and and the other water soluble ones, but was a bit concerned about the D.

Situation report on masks in my part of UK - Nobody's wearing them, because masks are gay and stupid.
Went shopping yesterday, and saw one old bloke looking stupid in a mask , and that was it. They have turned M&S into a labyrinth though , which was fun. Enter by one door, navigate the single path through the pants and socks to get to the food hall, then escape with your delicious haul.

Bored of this now.

You don't really have to worry about overdosing on vitamin D with the stuff you buy.

We use 50,000 IU caps.
