Apparently in some prisons they just mash scraps taken out of blenders that can be salvaged and refrigerated, where it then can be molded into the shape of anything. Not that the details matter or anything, or what goes into this composite slaw of matter.

The way I've heard it is that while most child molestor (not all) were molested at some point in their lives, most children who were molested will NOT become molestors when they get older. It's an interesting theory about Nick. He did mention his dad letting him smoke pot when he was really young -- not something you should do with a kid. (No, I'm not anti-pot, for the record) Add to the fact that he's schizo, and that his family seems to be really religious, and didn't seem to care about getting their kid any help for any problems, well, if he WAS molested, I don't even want to think about their reaction. That is one fucked up family. They make Borb look like Mike and Carol Brady.


(I'm reminded of the old Mister Roger's song, "You Can Never Go Down the Drain", to help kids who have fears about being sucked down the drain when they take a bath. Heh. I never hated taking baths as a kid, but I did hate how my mother always somehow managed to get soap in my nose when she'd wash my face. Thanks, Mom)

I just realized something.

Nick, at one point, mentioned that he was going to go to a TMBG show...but he never mentioned it again, which seems odd from him. As such, we can assume it didn't pan out.

I'm just mentioning this because I'm seeing them tomorrow night (for like the zillionth time, but still) and the fact that I'm going to be doing something he'll never get to do is ridiculously satisfying.

Also, I doubt Nick was molested, personally. It doesn't seem to fit what I know about him. I could be wrong, but yeah.

Nick claimed to have ablutophobia, which is the fear of bathing. Perhaps a bit surprisingly, this is an actual phobia...but it's only really common among very young children, and my understanding (which is admittedly limited; if someone who knows anything about this kinda thing can chime in that'd be swell) is that in adults it's generally trauma-induced.

Another reason that children may fear or dislike bathing (aside from the molestation theories) just might have to do with their parents using the threat of a forced bath or shower as punishment for their children misbehaving at home or in public. For impressionable young children, it may reinforce a belief that practicing daily hygiene is a bad thing, since their parents once or repeatedly threatened to put them in the bath because they were acting up. Taking a shower or bath seems like a punishment for something they may or may not have done.

I saw something like this at work Friday night, where a four year old was acting up, so her mother told her that she was getting a bath as soon as they got home, which prompted the kid to whine and plead to not be given a bath. All the while, I was thinking "Is that kind of threat really necessary? There are better ways to discipline a child."

I'm not suggesting Nick Bate had a similar trauma relating to bathing, though. His problem just may well be laziness or simply enjoying being filthy and unwashed.

I think we've had the "was Nick molested as a kid" discussion before. I agree that he fits the profile in a lot of ways, but somebody (forget who, sorry) made the point that Nick is open about just about everything, including things you'd expect him to be afraid to admit (his 'pedosexuality', for example), so it seems unlikely that he would have kept quiet about being molested as a kid.

Although now that I say that, I guess it's possible he was molested and has just suppressed the memory.

As for the He was scared of showers because it was used as a punishment when he was younger, I doubt that as well.

I think what @DrJonesHat said is most likely, he has a mental health problem and he is living in his own world that he can't leave and we have no wish to enter. In the world he lives in he has done no wrong, and he is a perfectly normal person there is nothing wrong with what he's done or wants to do every one else is the odd ones.

He is a dangerous nutter who is behind bars awaiting trial for sexually abusing his sister, let's just leave it at that for now.

I don't think anybody is claiming all of Nick's mental problems come from this hypothetical abuse he may have suffered as a child. If anything, it's likely the opposite - mentally ill children who are neglected by their parents are especially prone to being abused (although usually by family members or friends of the family, not strangers).

We will probably never know. But the combination of being an abuser oneself and extremely poor personal hygiene is almost the classic behaviour pattern for a child abuse victim.

Now seems like a good time to point out that Nick's psych evaluation mentions he had some type of sexual experience with a female cousin when he was thirteen. We don't know how old she was, but this points to an unhealthy and fucked-up dynamic in Nick's family that extends beyond just him.
