Community Tard Baby General (includes brain dead kids) - Fundies and their genetic Fuckups; Parents of corpses in denial

Enjoy....The horrifying ratings I'm sure to get will feed my power!
The thing about rett syndrome is that they can be close to normal their whole lives- they'll have movement dysfunction and can be mildly brain damaged but often they are "there", just like any kid with Downs. It's not the living-dead shit usually, just a really fucked up body for them to live in. The facial deformity is freaky but they're not brain dead. They're just fucked up. I can't really get worked up over this, when she was diagnosed there was the possibility she'd be only physically impaired and potentially live into her 40s. So it's reasonable to keep her going.

Unlike waterhead baby, the kid with the cleft palate, the kid who "fell off a golf cart" and anencephalic kids. Those are all empty piles of meat that can only feel pain (if that). Keeping them alive is horrifying because it's purposely harming them, but watching your kid degrade in capabilities over the course of a decade is not really the same.

There's a lot of facial deformities and motor dysfunctions that don't affect the mind at all, or hardly at all. Stupid, ugly, uncoordinated people aren't the horrorshow this thread is really about.

edit: Rett is like a degenerative version of cerebral palsy in a way.

Yes I've worked with adolescents with it. I mainly posted because the prior poster was asking for more info on her and I knew this video existed.

As horrifying as Sophia looked, she wasn't a complete potato, right? I guess what ultimately mattered was that she was happy and wasn't suffering.

I hope that one kid with the severe burns is doing ok. His face was a horrorshow too but he seemed like a bright kid.

tbh I feel bad for her and honestly kind of hope she's retarded just enough to not understand the cruel shit about her appearance people who aren't kind enough to keep their mouths shut are gonna say. (.... that said, fuck how horrifying) eta: wouldn't doctors try to make her some cosmetic lips or something like that?

Lips are incredibly hard to create and probably aren't worth it for cosmetic reasons given her other issues. This documentary is about a man who received new lips and it's both harrowing and eye opening. I doubt it would have improved quality of life for her versus the pain endured.

This is him now.

jesus fuck how horrifying. I wonder how many years of therapy it took to keep him from the desire to suicide, since the only benefit is that he lacked the limbs to have a viable way to commit other than maybe lying facedown in a bathtub. Disability checks must be hella fat tho.

His son. The boy was uncomfortable with affection from him after he came out of hospital and it took years for him to kiss his son on the cheek again. Seriously, give the documentary a watch. It's a fantastic insight into the life of someone with severe disabilities and facial differences who had a reason to endure everything... these kids do not.

Ah, shouldn't have ordered the Minstrel Show Special.

Quite honestly? Wait for your caregiver to go to bed, fill up the bathtub with cold water, sit in it and use the Wim Hof breathing technique until you're good and hypocapnic, flip yourself facedown. Instant and painless.

Not that I'm condoning suicide, but I'm just really tired of seeing failed suicide attempts in the emergency department.

tbh good advice, wouldn't want to risk being a quad amputee and brain damaged.

I HIGHLY doubt the rhett syndrome diagnosis. Girls with it develop normally till 1 year of age (and sometimes up till 4-5). Almost all greatly benefit from occupational and speech therapy (for alt communication).

Ive seen nothing from that thing that suggests it was any more than a potado.

Yeah, I was always really confused by Sophia. Rett doesn’t usually come with horrifying facial deformities, does it? And she was completely non-verbal which isn’t standard with Rett... I mean I’m not sure if she even had a jaw, of course she couldn’t speak.

So I dug around a bit more and looked at her mother’s blog, and it turns out Sophia also had type 1 diabetes, a rare immune deficiency, and no b-cells. Other cases have been observed of people with no b-cells and face/hand/foot deformities, but none as bad as Sophia. So... her entire body was a mess, and it might eventually be a named syndrome, but not yet.

2. This entire thread is the most convincing argument for legalized abortion after 6 months I've ever seen (when many of these types of defects are first visible on ultrasound).

I personally do not believe in 3rd trimester abortions, by which I mean that the baby is (let's call it what I believe it is) killed in the womb and then delivered, but I don't have an issue with delivering the baby, whether by c-section or induced labor, and giving it no treatment beyond comfort care. This is, of course, not a decision I could make for anyone else.

I got walloped on another board for saying that this man's death was probably a blessing.

That he lost a leg to this disease was not enough in itself to warrant a statement like that, but he was also being evaluated for a lung transplant, and truthfully, people who have those remain sick for the rest of their lives, just in a different way, and I think we all know that these weren't his only COVID-related health issues.

There's an interview floating around out there with a woman who developed sepsis, and awoke months later with all four limbs amputated above the elbow and knee, most of her intestinal tract gone, and no kidneys. In other words, she was now a quadruple amputee with short-gut syndrome, on dialysis. She claimed that she did have a quality of life, due to the love she had from her family, but good grief - she could do absolutely nothing for herself except speak, and I was doubtful about that.

I disagree. I don't want anyone to get an abortion, but women should not be forced to go through the pain and physical depletion of the pregnancy, as well as the delivery, knowing the baby will die or be horribly deformed.

If the baby has no brain or no lungs or something, delivering the child just for it to die will be traumatic. Or, being forced to carry the baby and "raise it" just to watch it die in a couple of years is nightmare fuel. It's not noble, it's cruel.

I finally realized what her mouth looked like.

I collect old medical books, and in the pre-antibiotic era, there was a facial infection called "noma" which was usually fatal, and if it wasn't, left them permanently and severely disfigured. Doctors in 3rd world countries and war zones still sometimes see it; it's associated with malnutrition and uncleanliness.

It looks a lot like that; Google Image it at your own risk.

Sophia seems conscious enough to understand her surroundings and key conversations, experiences happiness and joy, and seems to have a healthy, loving relationship with her siblings. There's eye contact, smiles and communication. Her mum seems realistic also and treats her like a person instead of a bio-doll for attention like Gwen Hartley. She mentions in this video that she actively hid her away for 7 years before choosing to integrate her into normal life with her siblings, and that shows she is painfully aware of reactions from the general public instead of parading her around constantly. Even though her physical appearance takes you aback at first, as is normal for any human being confronted with something viscerally unfamiliar, it's clear she has a decent life and they're doing their best for her. I wouldn't regard her as a potato, honestly.

I do enjoy SBSK and I watch the videos a lot. My favourite featured guest is probably Ruby; her school treats her normally, she has friends, and her mum doesn't use her for narcissistic supply. They do a good job of showing the reality of living with severe disability and illness, as well as their caregivers. There are some that definitely seem to be lights on with nobody home, but I think it's a great series to show different people in a positive light who are enjoying the life they were given.

noma is pretty common in places with grain shortages these days, or places where kids have really bad nutrition. nations vary, last time MsF was discussing it, it was prevalent in the DNC, this was a few years back. Sierra Leone too.

there's occasional cases in the US, there was a small set of cases in Utah and a few in the southern Appalachians in the last ten years or so.

I can't believe the simplest solution for kids like Sophia just hit me, especially in the age of rona. just wear a mask, make it like pretty with little flowers and stuff. If they have the capacity to actively communicate with language, I assume it would be sign language anyhow since our #2 necessity for speech other than mouth and neck shape is prominent lips. Would kids like her have to be tube fed, or maybe just a diet of purees and stuff? I can't imagine trying to chew without lips and sort of open cheeks.
