I'm just a wage slave so I ain't got no learnin, but most of my family is academic, and just looking at the whole process from the outside always gave me this sense that the absolutely huge amount of time they had to spend studying very narrow and specific subjects ended up kind of retarding them on a more generalized world view that most of us get from just sorta exploring various subjects that pike our interest at our leisure.

I dated a scientist who was impressed by me plugging my desktop into my tv with an HDMI cable and controlling the mouse and keyboard with my phone, like it was something out of the future. I've had family members with their masters unaware of what fractals are, or what a Higgs boson is, or what the microwave background radiation is, or that there is a case for conservatism just as there is for liberalism, and that one isn't inherently more evil than the other.

I definitely think you pay a price for that level of mastery, and even worse, they become very arrogant and often are very difficult if not impossible to convince otherwise.

It's understandable to some extent, it is an impressive feat that they have accomplished, but it doesn't mean they are super human, and I think we too often turn a blind eye towards the deficiencies the process creates.

That's my uneducated shit for brains outlook on it all, though.

I think oldie but goldie "Impostors in the Temple" by Martin Anderson is a great book on the topic of stupidity and general degradation of academe. I just read it recently, and it was eye-opening. It was written almost 30 years ago, but things since then have only gotten worse. While it's mostly about American universities and colleges, some of it surely applies to Canada too.

Well, can you really blame them? Our societies for last few decades are kinda built around the idea that everyone should strive for higher education and more degrees you have more valuable person you are.

I was thinking about it a bit and more and more points to the possibility that Peterson's family is bunch of munchies. Their preoccupation with their ailments and posting pictures of themselves in a hospital. Of course I have no proof, just intuition is telling me that something is off.

Maybe JBP freaked out when his wife got cancer because after all these year of malingering finally something real happened? (I do believe his wife's cancer is real)

Peterson hasn't been more lolcow-ish, possibly ever, than he is right now.
And I say that as someone who was a lukewarm fan of the guy at the beginning of the thread and thought it was mostly made by spergs butthurt about being told to clean their room.
