Yeah...no. Japanese propaganda and Imperial worship made it so the Japanese people would rather jump off cliffs rather than be occupied by Americans. Not to mention how the Japanese military was deeply divided on just about everything. While one faction might have wanted peace, the other would have undoubtedly fought to the bloody end had they not experienced the tragedy and true dread of nuclear war. We also didn't need a rape of Berlin 2 electric boogaloo by the Russians in Korea and mainland Japan.Not to get too off topic but the whole thing is a back and forth. I do believe we dropped the nukes as a show of power and scare the Soviets. But the Japs were willing to surrender once the Soviets took back Manchuria. Also, the Japs were planning on using the Plague on us and spread it in California.
At any rate, I think it was the right call to make and you can chalk it up to epic Karma for Japan's wartime atrocities.
