30 bucks for a 126 page novella is steep, hardcover or not.

The 5 minute trailer is, ironically, right out of the 'Fabula Nova Crystallis era'-Square Enix playbook he so brazenly hates. I'd put the actual plot of the book first, and then do the lore-baiting. I get it, you want to market this bigger, more expansive world - but what's the point of making it the first piece people actually see, even though the vast majority of all that shit will not actually make it into this first book?

I can't say it's entirely uninteresting, but it's just pretty funny to see when he talks so much shit about big franchises thinking too much about higher concepts before the beat-beat story and plot. But it was always prone to hypocrisy if he was interested in writing, because having a functional set of fantasy stories within the same world requires some level of world building independent of the basic synopsis.

Also have no idea why he's putting this on his YT name. Can't be for marketing purposes.

All that being said, it's still worth some praise that he's actually followed through with making something of his own. Let's see if it's any good.
Yeah, I love opening the reader up with WALLS OF FANTASY NAMES, vague geographic sketches, and a brief mention of each race's particular gimmick.

In this era where anyone can publish anything for free, I don’t consider making something to be worthy of praise anymore.
He deserves props for getting a real, albeit indie, publisher instead of going the amazon route, but that’s clearly just because of his YouTube channel. Even Moviebob managed to get an indie publisher.
But the price defeats the entire point. He claims this is a pulp. But pulps were famous for being inexpensive. $15 for a paperback is not a pulp. Grocery store romance novels are cheaper than that. This thing should have been $8 maximum

Oh Christ, Blob wrote a book?

I suppose you're right though. Indie publishers will jump for your content if you have a significant presence on social media.

It'd be more impressive if he got one of the big publishers to put it on shelves. Cheaper too, most likely.

Who needs a big publisher when you've got Vox Day and his totally epic Castalia House on your side? Bestsellerdom here he comes.

Two new books

edit:

(1)The absolute minimum for a novel is supposed to be 50,000 words. Wonder if this will reach that? Particularly since it is apparently full of illustrations.
(2) I guess this isn't Castalia House, but something called
Dark Legion Comics? (What a cool name...I would have said to myself when I was 12.) A subsidiary of Vox Day's globe spanning empire I'd never heard of before, I guess.

Novels are generally 40k words actually, but Dan keeps calling this a pulp, which were small books usually stapled together by the author themselves and sold at newsstands for nickels.
So if being shorter is fine, but it’s still too expensive for a 120 page work

Edit: on his stream last night he claimed he broke even on the book within minutes of preorders being open and says quote “it’s blowing up”
However, seeing as it’s over priced for a 120 page novella, my guess is a maybe a hundred preorders paid for it, which isn’t as impossible given his fan base.

So what does he say in this? I'd watch, but i like have blood pressure that doesn't make my heart explode.
He mostly uses it to complain about the supreme court. Its pretty much his supreme court video, but with RBG as an opener. I don't even necessarily disagree with him. The supreme court needs more checks against them, but the video is so off topic from the title that RBG's death is a footnote.

This take makes no sense. It implies that MGS2 was hated upon release, but not only was it positively praised at the time for graphics, AI, story, and level design, I can firmly recall several forums and IRL groups calling it a work of genius back then. I’ve always been of the opinion that the mind fuck final act is one of the most memorable and expertly executed moments in gaming. Who here didn’t fall for the fake game over? Who here wasn’t confused when your map changed to real footage of a Japanese girl sleeping in a hammock? Who honestly expected it to end in a ninja fight in New York with old time jazz playing at the credits?

And Dan likes to bitch about how action heavy Metal Gear as a series is, but completely disregards that 2 added in the tranquilizer darts to make it so you don’t need to kill a single enemy in the entire game. And added an extra element by having the command radio in to see what happened to enemies, causing an alert if you actually did kill them.

For all the complaints of “revisionist history” he’s sure taking a revisionist stance on one of the most praised games from that decade.

It's only revisionist when someone else does it or disagrees with his very autistic personal opinions. Daniel is a special boy so we've got to give him some allowances.

"Video packed full of lore"...isn't that the purpose of the book?!
There's no way even half of this shit will make it into the first novella. It's better to keep the lore under wraps up until the book is out. Reward your audience for staying on the ride and paying attention.

This. He is a Class-A hypocrite. The fact that his fanbase will guzzle down anything he says like Jim Sterling at an ice cream parlor doesn't help either.

I do recall a knee jerk reaction to the bait and switch, but nothing on the level of what this guy describes.

MGS2 being regarded a masterpiece isn't even a new thing. Super Bunnyhop made his MGS2 analysis video about how much of an achievement the game was and his video is 7 years old.

No digital edition
$15 for the paper back
$30 for the hardcover

What he fuck is the audience for this trash? There isn’t even a release date. You’re just supposed to preorder and wait

Edit:

Someone called him out on YouTube and he replied

lol "zerdes"

gotta love how thief fanfic always gives the protagonist a spastic d-grade fantasyland name like the badly written Thief 2X did with "Zaya," which is humorously enough like the female equivalent to razor's mary sue

There was definitely a reaction to the bait and switch and to this day Raiden is considered the biggest issue in the game, but that was another reason why it was considered so genius back then. The game played with everyone’s expectations at every turn. It was never called bad or terrible. Which is what he’s implying
