Diseased #Comicsgate - The Culture Wars Hit The Funny Books!

Interrupting the ongoing attempt to convince us that bending the knee is winning, is there some reason Frog's stream isn't up with Shane Davis? He's been taking them down allot recently.
Livestreams jack up the algorithm so he's been routinely deleting them to salvage his sub count for about a year. Why he hasn't started a second channel just for livestreams is beyond me, everyone else seems to have figured it out.

He's streaming a singalong right now.

So the roadmap is to get sued for tortious interference and hire lawyers and lose work, and have all of your peers think you're a dummy that fucked up their plans and made them look bad...

...only to eventually get let off the hook in two years, so that you can continue to dominate small press companies that don't comply with your gay ops? And then do it all over again?

It's ingenious.
No, the road map is to laugh when the people on the right quit the fight because 'it's just to hard.'

I haven't followed this thread in about ~1000 pages. Is it safe to say @FROG has attracted his fair share of tsundere trolls to threads talking about him, desperate for a crumb of attention from the big man, just like literally every other personality on the internet?
You missed a lot.

He raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for this suit. He used it as advertisement saying, if you like to support free comics and standing up to Mark Waid buy my book.

He chose to use this. He chose to sue. He chose to solicit help. Stop acting like he was alone in all this.
He chose to quit and blamed it on the Coof.

You tell everybody how you made bank on the Justice League movie. Waid gets that for all those CW shows, DC cartoons, and movies. Except he created allot more. Flash, KC Superman, the Speed Force!

That's just DC.
Waid is a very wealthy man. Kingdom Come came out in '96 when Waid was a hot writer for his run on Flash. He instantly went to A-List with Kingdom Come. This was an age when creators made real money in comics and Waid was at the top. Marvel and DC spent the next two decades in bidding wars over exclusive writers of Waid's prominence. Waid (undeservedly) made top writer rates on often multiple books a month jumping from FF to Superman to 52 and had his pet projects green lit with little trouble for years. (Empire) Even when he failed his rep helped him fail upward. If any writer got rich writing comics between 1996 and 2016 it was Mark Waid. He was in the right place at the right time and milked it for all it was worth as an A-list writer.

Mark Waid was making so much money that he bought a dying comic shop just to impress a chick like the simp he is. The money Ethan makes in royalties may or may not compare to what Waid does. (I doubt it) But the money Waid has made in comics has to be in the very highest echelon.

I'm sure Waid could cough up a meager retirement, but he isn't wealthy.
That's wishful thinking Frog. Waid probably made more in comics before you got on New X-Men than you made in your whole career. Kingdom Come is evergreen (like the Dark Knight Returns or Watchmen) and Waid has commanded A-list rates for twice as many years as you and ten times as many issues. (writers often get paid less but they can write several books a month where artists can't do twelve issues a year for the most part)

Mark Waid is scum but he's wealthy scum for sure.

All this for a judgement (which wasn't guaranteed and was 5+ years out) and an apology (which no one would cover). I totally get why Meyer agreed to walk away when Waid asked him to.
Here's the thing, as Jsplit said Meyer was warned this would happen and he promised to stay the course and fight to the end. Then the going got tough and he bailed.

People don't blame him for bailing. Litigation is a nightmare. People blame him for lying when he said he wouldn't bail.

The culture war didn’t hinge on this lawsuit. Jesus Christ.
No, it didn't. This was just one more battle lost in the culture war because the lefty had more will to win than the conservative.

Richard Meyer made himself the Mitt Romney of comics yesterday when he seeded ground to the SJW's because fighting was just to much trouble. He folded like a GOP legislator.

If he wasn't going to see the fight through to the end he never should have pretended he would.

Meyer was NEVER "part of Comicsgate." EVER. He was very, very, VERY clear about this. He just wants to make comics, he doesn't want to make any political statement about it. And if some SJW wants to buy his comics on their merits, he's been clear that he'll happily take their money in exchange for goods and services. I get what you're saying -- CG might not be supporting Meyer as much anymore -- but even Frog has pointed out that Meyer isn't part of CG, not exactly.

What does frustrate me somewhat, and I expected and understand it, are people somehow outraged that Meyer didn't keep fighting. It's been two years. Waid managed to bullshit his way around a single procedural thing for over a fucking year, all while having his legal team send harassment shit to Meyer's legal team, running up the bill constantly. We're at 2 years in and there still hasn't even been a single real court session over this.

I get that it sucks that Waid's "lets just run out the clock" thing worked, but what was Meyer to do? Spend every dime he makes, all the money he could be putting into his new business and making comic books, just to continue to fight a legal battle that a blubbery failing man-child is intentionally dragging out via bullshit games... All for an apology that Waid absolutely wouldn't mean and the comics media absolutely wouldn't cover? Everyone's a badass fighter rah rah rah from the twitter client, but when you're getting $3000+ a month legal bills every month for 2 years, well...

Don't get me wrong. I would have LOVED seeing that fat sack of shit Waid have to post -- or record a video of -- some "I lied about Meyer and knew it, and I apologize." But at the rate Waid was successfully fucking with the system, it would have been 2025 or later if it was ever seen, and lets be honest -- the odds of Waid surviving in the industry till 2025 are pretty fucking low.

Even if he doesn't get MeToo'd by some sociopathic purse puppy POC who thinks "xie" deserves the work that a disgusting straight white cis male is getting, look at Marvel and DC. They're basically on life support and crashing hard. Waid's own business partners and coworkers have already come forward and outed him as a phone destroying, wall punching nutjob. It's literally only a matter of time before he does something like that in front of some faux fragile sjw type and they have him thrown out of the industry for it. He's no longer useful to them, and being a male feminist won't save him forever.

Now, what I WOULD love to know is if Waid was paying his own legal fees, or if he had help. Because the "lets run out the clock strategy" is just as expensive to do as it is to put up with. The idea of Waid wasting $250,000+ on annoying Meyer to death is glorious to me. Especially since in 2020, 2021... he's not going to be making that money back anytime soon.
Oh, yeah, the Jesus is not Catholic arguement.

Fact is: we do not know who did what because of the NDA.
Reality is: a nobody on YT made an esteemed comic book writer's career radioactive and got a few millions in crowdfunding for it. Do you believe anybody else will try to pull that sort of shit again?

Waid could have had destroyed YBZ by allowing him to publish his GI Joe fanfic to a whooping bellow-10K issues by issue 3. Then YBZ would have zero legs to stand on while criticizing nobodies for no sales...

Richard famously shit all over squirrel girl so let's take a look at some lineart and you tell me which one is better.

Speaks for itself honestly.

"Waid lost work" lol yet those royalty checks get cashed every month.

Meanwhile Richard is dredging the dumpster looking through the small pool of artists not currently occupied to work for him and he gets Narwhal lmao.

Send Ethan some preparation H and a box of wet wipes. His ass is is on fire and Richard is currently running around with a padded crash helmet and a pair of pants on his head.

Yeah, sorry to break it to you, but SG is the worse, lazy linework over some competent inking.

Narwal looks kind of bad but it is very kinetic and with well narrated. One is sloppy work by a professional, the other is... an acquired taste.
And I do remember Zack gushing over Narwal's book when he got it.
Too bad he is not doing 4 more Jawbreakers books with his time though.

Disagree, I think a lot of people were putting money into this to win a culture war. Without this, I think it's safe to declare CG dead. There isn't a communal cause at this point. You've created a situation where individual creators can publish their works without SJW interference and thats it.

1608750804382.png

It didn't change the comic book industry, you just made your own space for right leaning creators. That's not what people donated to. CG and its fans came together to do more than just give you, Cecil, Anna, Charlies London, Jon Malin, Zack a place to make comics. It was more than about you. That's why people gave as much money as they did. That was ComicsGate. Without the lawsuit the emotional appeal of a rallying cry against the SJWs and the culture war doesn't exist. You just have the ability to make your own comics as we've argued earlier. Making fun of Black people unlocking isn't fighting a culture war.

I have a big daddy level theory I wish to share. Jawbreakers is really different from Pandemic, The Ballad of No, and Impossible Stars. We all know Mr Paypiggons donated a generous sum of money to Zack's lawsuit. It's speculated that he's been a benefactor to Meyer since then.

Is it possible Mr. Paypiggons is influencing creative direction of Meyer's books? Pandemic, The Ballad of No, Impossible Stars are wildly different in tone than the Superhero GI Joe ripoff that started Meyer. Even Meyer's earlier work before D&C (Chosin: Hold the line) was Military centered but we've not seen him dip back into that well for a few books. Iron Sights, despite foregoing the Superpower angle sill had a Marine as its main character. Finally with 499 The Military angle comes back into Meyer's writing, Featuring the word veteran too many times to count on the IGG Page with an Alt History Cold War story.

So maybe being free of Piggons since his Doxing (has he been heard from since?) is Meyer now free to go about his usual choice of ficiton, Superheros and the Military? I'm only positing a theory here as I don't think I could prove this other than an admission from the men involved, but that trilogy of books, timely or not was just really out of Meyer's comfort zone. Piggons from what I remember of trying to watch any livestream with him on is far right, and I think would be more interested in ideas like The Ballad of No as not wearing a mask or whatever the fuck that book was about would more line up with a boomer like him. A guy who of the few pictures we have is with the drummer for Tool, A band with lyrical content that is sometimes anti censorship and anti authoritarian. Ballad of No is also an extremely stupid name for anything.

He's basically turned into the comics equivalent of Straight to DVD movies, or The Asylum best known for Timely ripoffs of current theatrical releases

1608753075639.png

Of course that's an idea he promoted on the IGG for Iron Sights

Quick google search of "Mark Waid net worth" has it between $5 - $8 million depending on the site. None of them are reliable though. It's certainly more than Zach. Probably Frog too depending how one values IP. Cyberfrog alone is worth considerably more than that IMO tho.

Also, Waid raised $81k in his GoFundMe for legal fees. Zack raised about $147k.

Interesting to note that Waid has already disabled new donations on his while Zack can't be bothered to click that single button.

EDIT: does Frog control Zack's GoFundMe? If so, disable new donations.

5-8 million is reasonable. Even if Waid hasn't made a lot off of royalties he started making bank when there was money to be made in comics and positioned himself as one of the few who still makes money in comics as things went to shit.

I've never been much impressed by his writing but Marvel and DC were falling over each other to secure his services for two decades.

He made a shit tun of cash.

Basically yeah. This. But that would have allowed someone not of the cool kids club in the building and REEEEEEEEEE (wobbling jowls sound goes here) EEEEEEE.

The best thing they could have done is just ignored the right to death. But that wasn't enough for the mean girls and their simp orbiters. They HAD to go further, to prove they were ahead of the pack and get goodboy points.

I'm sure the whisper networks got real fucking quiet after seeing those some of those CG and CG-Adjacent fundraisers were putting out. That's more money than most of then will ever see for a single project.

Interesting to note that Waid has already disabled new donations on his while Zack can't be bothered to click that single button.

I believe @FROG has to be the one that disables the fundraiser. But given that Meyer still hasn't made a public statement yet, it's probably waiting on that.

That isn't interesting to note...that's my fault. I started the GFM, and I just realized it's on me to disable it. Done. Thanks for the reminder.

The biggest thing: Narwal is actually likeable as a human and comes off as a genuinely decent person. That's a rare property in the Comics world. He's also young and gifted with a ton of future potential. Folks like to support people like that. We'd have never known him without Youtube.

Yeah, my goal was to make a space for non-SJWs to make comics unhindered. That's what I've been doing. That's my entire purpose and everything I care about.

Zack's goal was to punish Mark Waid for interfering with his publishing ambitions and send up a warning to others like him, so that Zack could do what he's been doing. I assume people donated to help him in that effort.

Your goals for ComicsGate aren't mine. Stop making your dissatisfaction my problem. Go make the changes you want, instead of criticizing the people who are taking that initiative for themselves.

It's not your fault. Zack just doesn't seem to give a fuck. Did he tell you he was walking away from the lawsuit or did you find out third-hand from people like us?

Right.

A normal person might at least give a heads-up to the guy responsible for his $150k legal defense fund (and filling it). If he gave a fuck.

Which charity will you choose to donate whatever's left? I predict he'll leave that up to you along with closing the campaign and all the other work involved.

5-8 million is reasonable.

Those net worth sites are garbage so I denounce myself for looking. I just checked Frog and Zack. Same 5-8 mill for Frog and 1 mill for Zack. I don't believe either of those.

Be it indy video games, forum hosting, indy comics, anything really. Seen it repeatedly in the past few years. Nothing anyone can create can ever match the perfect unrealized utopian vision in some people's minds. Your comic? Nowhere near as cool as the awesome comic they would have made. Your video game? Sucks compared to the awesome idea they had. Null's forum? Nowhere NEAR as cool as the forum THEY'D run.

The running theme? They never actualize anything. It's all theoretically perfect and exists only in their dreams.

And what's worse, by daring to actually try and put pen to paper, or code to compiler, or actually start making an animation team, or what have you, creators made it absolutely clear that these types aren't bothering to do anything other than dream. Which makes them pissed off... but they're really pissed off at themselves. But they can't turn that anger inwards, so they get mad at the people that made them feel uncomfortable. It's a crab pot mentality with a zesty twist of utopian vision and a touch too much self assuredness.

I'm sure in some people's minds the theoretical anti-Waid lawsuit would have been just amazing, had gone off without a hitch, and the judge would have immediately seen what Waid was pulling and stopped the procedure bullshit, bringing them to court within weeks of starting. But it's not the lawsuit that actually occurred in the real world.

The Meyers v Waid Lawsuit has probably been irrelevant for more than a year, other than as a costly symbol.
There are multiple vehicles now where a comic book can be financed and delivered, that alone removes the vulnerability for coercive control.
COVID-19 accelerated the collapse of the direct market - stores and publishers struggling to keep the doors open are more likely to tell 3rd party meddlers like Waid to kick rocks, and know their won't be any insurmountable repercussions.

SJWs in the Comic Book industry is a symptom of the Marxist parasitical contamination of western thought. Marxist in the broad sense - but tracing it's roots back through critical theory from Horkheimer and the Frankfurt School to Marx's conflict theory. Critical theory and the variants of critical race theory and critical social justice has pervaded EVERYTHING.

Comic books are not a large lever. Despite the intentions of the horn-rimmed glasses crowd and the emasculated male feminists - simply aren't shaping wider ideas about Democracy, liberty, gender roles or almost any topic you can think of. Comics are more of a lagging rather than a leading indicator. Because they are not a large lever - if people can produce an income entertaining people, and that pipeline can't be interfered with - that's about as much as you can expect . Some 2 years into the lawsuit - running it out to a conclusion likely would not change the fundamentals.

Filing the lawsuit in the first place probably did act as a check on much of the nonsense so that purpose was served.

If someone feels personally betrayed by Meyer's decision to wrap it up - that's probably an unhealthy projection - likely a win for the Kiwi Farms though as obsessive personalities are more likely to produce some hysterical rants.

Zack told me months ago that he was considering this. I didn't know it was happening, or happening this soon.

I never received any of the money from this Go Fund Me. It all went straight to him, so he'll make those decisions.
