Biden jeopardizes Keystone XL project on first day in office - Only a couple of days and there's already buyer's remorse

HOUSTON – President Joe Biden signed 15 executive orders and actions within his first few hours in office. The orders involved immigration, racial equality and the coronavirus to name a few.

But the one catching the attention of Houstonians and the energy industry targets the Keystone XL pipeline.

“In Houston, I have a lot of people in the energy industry,” said Congressman Mike McCaul. “I want to protect their jobs.”

McCaul, who represents west and northwest portions of the Houston area, was at Wednesday’s inauguration. He notes that Congress previously has authorized the pipeline and believes the project is good for the country and oil and gas industry. He is willing to have the debate again.

“We’re gonna have a civilized discussion about that,” McCaul said. “But I think you’re going to see some, obviously from Texas, a lot of disagreement on that issue.”

The 1200-mile pipeline addition was designed to transport 830,000 barrels of oil a day from Canada to a site in Nebraska. President Biden’s action today revokes the presidential permit authorized by former President Trump. There’s been a strong reaction from other Texas lawmakers.

Congressman Dan Crenshaw tweeted the move only benefits Russian oligarchs.

However, University of Houston professor Ed Hirs doesn’t believe the president’s order will have a major impact in Houston.

“Cancellation of the Keystone pipeline really doesn’t mean anything for the Houston area,” he said. “Crude oil content from Saudi Arabia and from Venezuela. These are the winners in this debacle. The losers are Canadian friends.”

Canadian officials say the move could harm U.S.-Canadian relations.

Some Canadian leaders are threatening legal action.

Was Trump arrogant? Yes. Was he a conman during his tenure? Yes.

But I would've rather not hear about Trump taking TWO SCOOPS or yelled at X reporters for the nth time 24/7.

Now oil and gas will go up and more people are losing their jobs during COVID.

40 to 60,000 jobs terminated in day 1 and more to follow unless Biden or Harris comes up with something FAST.

Dude just import your oil from brazil just like when Obama was in office. If we shut down all coal plants and import all our electricity form out of the country, we're finally carbon neutral and I can sleep at night knowing when I take a vacation overseas I don't need to wear my canada pin because the foreign news organizations will just talk positively about america.
If you're afraid of people thinking you're American you should eat lead.

...and he followed this one up with executive orders regarding 'trans kids rights' and forcing trans athletes to be allowed to compete as whatever they want

Oh yeah, this is a totally great start to his term. I can't wait to see where this shitshow goes in the next 4 years
Women athletes will be beaten so hard right back into the kitchen.

Good, oil prices going negative outside of extraordinary circumstances like last year means the industry is fucked from top to bottom. Millions of people would loose their jobs and the feds would be forced to nationalize it all.

This cancellation assuming it does go through will have almost no effect on the vast majority of of jobs here or effect the price of oil. If he doesn't fuck with the rest of the industry it will actually help the US economy in the long term.

Get off-grid solar if you can to avoid the rolling blackouts. Hell, the battery backup might end up cheaper than relying on grid energy at this rate.
Then you get daily blackouts. Good plan.

How about a genset and some diesel. Then you have home storage of fuel for other stuff. Fuck, put an oil burning furnace in the home or shop while you are at it. Use it when you need to.

I don't think people understand what a boondoggle off-grid home solar is. Burning fuel oil for everything is a better option than dealing with daily cycling batteries. You spend more in a year replacing your deep cycles than they spend in dyed #2 diesel.

The grid is going to be unstable because of solar and shit like that. You getting it too doesn't fix things.

Joe Fucks with the Rest of the Oil Industry

I'll believe it when I see it.

This pipeline is nothing in the grand scheme of things, a feel good story for his base of retards who will believe an Indian genocide has been averted by this action. The Canadians who are actually going to be hurt by this are out of site and out of mind.

Killing domestic production and exploration to any significant extent is something virtually every American would feel. The price of oil would rise, jobs would be lost in massive numbers across many different sectors and it would contradict foreign policy objectives that have broad support across the political spectrum.

No reason not to do it by EO; The bureaucracy fully support Biden so it actually will get enforced, and even if in 2-3 years a court says he can't do that -- well I don't this you can just un-cancel something like this.
I mean the Trump EO should have made itself legislation, like much of what he decreed via EO, because it's harder to rescind legislation than it is an EO.

You can obviously sue a president both for making and rescinding an EO, which as has been pointed out does have a path to success, but even so legislation is the safer route byfar for big projects.

The Keystone XL pipeline has been a top priority to be destroyed by Neo Liberal conmen like Biden since the Obama days. Canada has been getting fucked over the entire time because this pipeline since it's inception has been a big cluster fuck to begin with. Problem with Canada's tar sands oil as well is that because the quality is not necessary as pure, we don't have the refineries that can actually accomodate the cost of the pipeline to begin with, so in many ways it was a fart in the wind since it's beginning. The initial contract would of made us a lot of money and we would of been able to establish a form of energy independence, if we could of tackled the refinery issue. Canada's big problem is that former PM Harper back on his hay day put all of his eggs in the oil basket, despite the logistical problems this pipeline was going to bring in anyways. Hence we where properly positioned to have our entire economy totally fucked when Harper was selling us out for pennies to the dollar to countries like China.

Trudeau if he was actually a competent leader could of with a guy like Trump, actually sorted out a deal that would of solved these logistical issues. Opposed to letting his cringe fringe politics get in the way, delaying progress. Alberta entire economy as this decision has made it into Nigeria. Canadians are fucking tards anyways with their TDS and get what they fucking deserve for being complacent to the Globo homo propaganda. At the other end of the equation though, if America can sort it's shit out, and if Canada can actually get a stable and competent government. Then we could arrange a better deal in the long run.

I always thought the endeavor for having this massive pipeline was a bill of false promises to begin with. Canada at the end of the day should of been more open to working with the Trump admin on this project and should of been at the bargaining table. Though Biden has really fucked up hard relationship wise, because even with the steel import tariff Trump put in. People are still very sour about that on this side of the fence. Like I said, problem is that Trudeau is a totally incompetent leader that let his politics get in the way of having a productive conversation of any sort. So it's Canada's own fault for setting ourselves to get fucked this hard.

This is just the final slap in the face to push Canada in a more nationalist direction. So in the long run it's good for Canada, because this will be the final nail in the neo liberal Trudeau regimes coffin. Canada at this point if this doesn't get sorted out, is going to tell the US to go fuck itself. Which a bunch of our parliament is already positioning itself to start monkey hammering the US. Biden has fucked America over hardcore, because your oil prices are going to skyrocket over his reign of terror. On top of the other socio-economic instabilities created by the China Virus, this is a huge disaster. Not only fiscally, but diplomatically.

Except when Obama created DACA via executive order and no-one stopped him, but then when Trump rescinded that executive order the courts blocked him from doing so - using some bullshit "procedural" standard that no other EO recission was ever held to.
They're using a standard dishonest discourse tactic: knowingly lie by omission and not significantly address it.

They know perfectly well that some EOs done by neoliberals, such as this one, are invincible.

Mother of god.

I expected something to happen, but not literally a day and a half later. In one fell swoop, he eliminated tens of thousands of jobs, hurt relations with perhaps America's only real ally, and fucking legal action on top that? There isn't a word beyond retarded that can adequately explain just how fucking galaxy-brained this move is.

I didn't know we were building a pipeline to Japan or the Aussies.

What's wrong with it?

Think of it this way: how does this hurt Democrats in any way?

They don't need those votes or voters.

Few of their big donors were involved in the pro-Keystone side.

Where are the Canadians going to sue that will give them the time of day?

This is a disaster for both America and Canada, the oil market isn't hot but cucking on this key pipeline is just going to weak the US regardless of energy independence.
Probably good for Canada in the long run, but right now with the state of Alberta that's really bad news for the short term.
You claimed people who said this shit was going to happen had a form of derangement. 🤭

Trump was a nasty asshole, but the Karens who cried about him and voted in this retard had better not bitch about this or any wars Biden starts as a result of needing oil.
