Chris Pontius being in the "still like" section of that rant of his where he disowns the rest of the crew is great. Chris really does seem impossible to hate.

Bam's wife looks fucking terrified in that second rant video though. Someone pointed out it looked like a black eye even. I can't believe she's even put up with his shit for this long, kid or not.

(They had to fuck around only with themselves, no interacting with strangers or crazy homeless people allowed for broadcast TV)

There were always underground skate tapes going around but this dude actually produced funny guerilla comedy bits just like Jackass later did and was well known enough for it to be included on film threat compilations. IIRC correctly the FT video mentioned his death in text at the end.


Look at Bam proving exactly why they were hesitant to include him in the film and only agreed to do so if he followed a stringent set of rules and a treatment program. Bam just proving everyone who said the guy was a toxic drug addled head case to stay away from correct. His inflated ego makes him more impossible to work with than his addictions.

If they are feeling particularly petty they can at least use it for lots of free publicity.


HIM was not at all well known in the USA, so if Ville wanted to crack that big money USA market Bam was a great free publicity on MTV. The only reason I knew anything about Ville was due to Bam’s weird obsession with him.

European black metal has always been a small niche here. In fact I think it’s appeal to many is that they think it’s underground, not really understanding the bands are quite famous in Europe.

There’s an old cliche in the music business here about certain struggling American bands that do the small bar circuit here but are “big in Europe” (the other is big in Japan). The markets are wildly different. You can be very famous in one, virtually unknown in the other. European bands are pushed to try and crack in the American market because it will make their label and managers obscenely rich.

HIM were never a black metal band. Have you even listened to black metal? Cradle of Filth? Dimmu Borgir? Satyricon?

Ville himself called their genre “love metal” (heartagram, love songs etc), but to be fair was gothic glam rock of sorts.

Powerlevel: I was in fan club of them in Greece, never attended any gigs BUT I know cover bands and people who knew Ville IRL, and they had some stories about groupies, even when Ville dated Jonna that Finnish model.

Maybe Bam was the gay one, that’s why he got so obsessed and thought of fucking his friends too.

knoxville did crazy shit before bam or jackass in the old Big Brother videos. Got famous for putting a bullet proof vest on and getting shot.

Brandon Cole "Bam" Margera (born Septermber 28, 1979) is a retired professional skater who achieved overnight stardom through the breakout reality show Jackass. He was a highlight with segments of him performing skate tricks and torturing his father Phil through pranks. He then starred in the Jackass film series, had his own spinoff "Viva La Bam" and was featured in the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater video games.

Popular belief is that Bam's life went downhill after the tragic death of his fellow Jackass costar Ryan Dunn. This isn't true as Bam went to rehab well over a year before Dunn crashed his Porsche. Ryan's death is simply used by Bam to excuse his degenerate lifestyle. Bam more or less goes into three stages, he either cries about Ryan Dunn, bitches about his family or friends, or brags about how much money he makes. He also holds a grudge that his surviving Jackass co-stars have managed to maintain sobriety for years and become functional adults. Nothing encapsulates Bam's massive ego more than his "Earth Rocker" video.

To properly chronicle Bam's full life would require a rock & roll biography. Youtuber Dank Net has made an excellent documentary on Bam's turbulent decade. Here's a short timeline of notable incidents:

Bam claims he began heavily abusing alcohol and developed bulimia in an attempt to mimic his idol, Ville Valo lead singer of the band H.I.M.
2006
Bam's uncle Vincent "Don Vito" Margera is arrested and later found guilty for sexual assault on a minor.
2007
Bam marries his first wife Melissa "Missy" Rothstein.
2009
Bam is rushed to the hospital for dehydration after a four day alcohol bender in July.
Bam agrees to go to rehab for alcoholism in December but then quits the program in 4 days.
2010
Bam gets beaten up with a baseball bat by a middle aged woman.
2011
Ryan Dunn kills himself and a production associate by crashing his Porsche into a tree.
2012
Bam divorces Rothstein.
2013
Bam is arrested in Iceland for the charge of trashing a rental car the year prior.
Bam marries his current wife Nicole "Nikki" Boyd.
2015
Bam goes to rehab for alcoholism for a second time. Again leaves before finishing the program.
Bam's Jackass co-star Brandon Novak completes his own rehab. Bam will bitch and moan about Novak's sobriety for years to come.

Nikki Margera gives birth to Bam's first son Phoenix Wolf Margera.
2018
Bam announces he's going to rehab for a third time.
Bam claims to maintain sobriety for several months until an alleged robbery in Colombia

Manny was usually featured in skits involving wild animals. It's pretty easy to see how it'd branch out into Wildboyz.

I don't think I ever really rewatched any of the Jackass movies, or series for that matter, since they came out, besides bringing the Jackass 1 dvd to friend's houses back in the day. Meanwhile Wildboyz I rewatch like once a year. Maybe I should rewatch them now, it might feel pretty new.
I do recall David Weathers being on Jackass as well, I think.

Calm down guys. I don’t know anything about euro black metal.

My whole point was HIM was not famous here at all, esp compared to Bam. I don’t know jack shit about the band besides the photos I saw of the lead singer. I figured HIM was just the stupid goth rocker band Bam was trying to imitate with his own band. Bam is not very original so I figure his band was just aping a, much less well known in the USA, euro band.

I saw a few photos of the lead singer and given his dress and look and decided black metal was a close enough label for his look. No idea what his band sounded like either.

Yeah, I remember Big Brother. The old FT video I’m referencing though was even years before BB. I’m not saying this was what gave Knoxville his idea for Jackass, plenty of street films being passed around, but this particular video was pretty spot on for what I later saw in outtake clips for certain skate company’s videos, Thrasher, BB and then JackAss. It’s an evolution, but that FT series was the very first video I ever saw with that kind of stuff with any sort of effort. Like it was a series of shorts, they guy was editing together a clip real of the funniest shit and planed stuff like trolley stunts.
(Because no one has still popped in with a possible name for the dead guy who did this, I’ll expand a little more. I recall it was shot around Philly, but that’s not certain. I do remember a clip of him in his car driving slowly along side of some insane homeless dude rage stomping down the street and him rolling down the window, getting angry crazy guy to slow down and he asked him “where can I get what your on?!” Crazy guy just stares at him bug eyed and keeps going. I figure some more daring interactions like this might have been what got him shot.
