Per a friend who’s watching the Kickstarter out of curiosity, this DDR clone is now at over $900k.

Personally, I’m half convinced someone’s using this to launder money - I know people on the Internet are retarded, especially in numbers, but almost a million dollars for this? Yandev must be seething

These FNF videos get millions of views on YouTube so even if we only assume a fraction of those people go on to donate that’s still some big money. Even $5 per person adds up fast when a good chunck of the internet is enjoying it.

I am very surprised we dont have a thread on this. The game and especially its mods have had a lot of popularity and ive seen some very cringe stuff in the fandom.

A big part of the charm for me personally is how this game really nails the early 2000’s flash game aesthetic like in Alien Hominid and Castle Crashers. Sure you can call it grungy amateur shit, but it’s sort of heartfelt to me.

For me, it's less about the "cutesy voice singing" and more about those nasty ass beats most of the songs have. They have a melodic composition that's almost inexplicably satisfying to the ears.

For those claiming that because the game is 'simple' it won't maintain popularity, look at FNAF. That series started out as a game where almost all you did was sit in a room awaiting screamers and pushing a few buttons, and somehow started a huge fandom that lasts even to now. I guess time will tell if ninja muffin can maintain developing this game to equal what Scott pulled off.

I think this game will be fine as long as Ninja Muffin prioritizes writing good songs and beat maps over the autistic lore that some fans are already trying to dredge up. Too many games these days get so hung up on telling an all-encompassing story to satisfy autistic fan questions and theories that the gameplay is under-developed as a result.

It’s already happening with this one where I see fans on Twitter @ing Ninja Muffin with these really stupid questions like, “If the girlfriend’s parents are demons why isn’t the girlfriend also a demon?” “Why does week 6 happen inside of a video game, and who was Senpai before they were trapped in it?” “Why does Pico bother to rap battle boyfriend if he’s hired to assassinate boyfriend?” “If x were to happen, would there be y?” These retards are already overthinking things too much. The best answer to all of these questions is and will always be, “It’s a rhythm game, who gives a shit?” Call me an oldfag but what happened to just playing games because they’re fun? People shouldn’t need a wiki’s worth of pointless trivia details to enjoy a game these days.

I do respect that Muffin is humoring some of these questions with throwaway on the fly responses for now, but part of me worries that this will become a potential problem that drags the game and it’s fandom downward.

Even as someone with no experience with rhythm games, FNF doesn't strike me as anything outstanding, but I've enjoyed it a fair bit and the art and music are charming. Playing the various mod content can be a bit of a surprise as all of the ones I've played thus far are an order of magnitude more difficult than the base game.

I'm not entirely convinced that the feasibility or lack thereof of playing the game with a pad is a strike against it; it's not as though an entire genre must adhere to a single control scheme.

I'm aware of how easy the game is to mod, the problem is there's a point where clout blinds people. Ninjamuffin is currently the head honcho. He's the one getting most of the recognition along with Kawaii Sprite. What concerns me is that eventually the fame and clout this game is getting right now is going to cause an ego war in the project of who's putting in the most work and who's getting the most recognition. Those green text quotes are good examples of how someone could eventually throw someone under the bus.

I played the original game... it's not bad, but they HAVE to make the steps perfectly sync up with the music similar to DDR/StepMania for this to actually work. My biggest issue with the original game were that there were many 1/8ths that should have been 1/16ths and vice-verse.

But yea, here's hoping this doesn't turn into another MightyNo9 or Yooka-Laylee

I've noticed that some songs are impossible to "FC" because the inputs are really wonky and jank. Jacks you can forget about because the kade engine can't handle it. (Midfight Masses would be a fun mod if that was fixed)
