The Shin Megami Tensei/Persona Thread

Yeah I'm not a fan of persona 1... I wouldnt call it a bad game just veryb archaic and tedious and the only characters I really like so far are Nanjo and Yukino (though in the case of the latter it's more for how she is in persona 2 since I'm going with Brown for this playthrough.

If persona 4 had too few attack types p1 has too fucking many... from what I've played of it, p2 is the best in terms of attack type variety followed closely by 3 and 5
The Persona 1 PSP music is so grating. I can't stand it. I'd love to play a remastered version on the PC though (the Megami Ibunroku Persona version translated).

I was referring mainly to separating guns back into their own seperate damage category as well as bringing back nuclear, bless, miracle, as well as the debut o psy... As for persona 3 I was referring to the fact that it has 3 categories of physical attacks which I feel is the right amount... Its not as autisticly complex as 1 but it isn't like 4 and to a lesser extent five where the streamlining causes physical attacks to lose some viability

I admit Psy element coming back in Persona 5 after a very long hiatus in the MegaTen series as a whole was unexpected. The names for the "Psi" line of skills originally appeared in the Famicom version of Megami Tensei, but did Force damage and in remakes was renamed to Zan to match later titles. The element we see in Persona 5 and adjacent titles has only appeared in one other game prior, which was Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner for the Sega Saturn and its PSP remake

speaking of devil summoner dio you have any idea on when a translation patch will be ready?

I wonder what happened to the Digital devil saga art style prototype of real time persona 3 combat.
It used some mock-up Persona 1 characters as placeholders.

Persona has probably among the most realistic depictions of lolcows/horrorcows ever... Mitsuo is basically Chris Chan, Adachi is like an unholy fusion of Yanderedev and Chris Chan (he even wants to bring about a dimensional merge), And Mishima's social link in 5 is basically about stopping someone from crossing the line into lolcowdom... wouldnt be surprised if Atlus has someone lurk on here for research

But i have not seen both Chris and Yandev killing people.

Adachi nearly got away with it too, though:thinking:
The fact that Adachi whose only been killing for a few months (one month really as aside from him trying to kill Mitsuo he only killed the first 2 victims and let namatame do the rest of the work) is better at remaining beneath suspicion than Akechi who had more experience killing people, had been doing it for far longer, and did so by a method that was near untraceable by conventional investigation tactics is fucking hilarious to me.

They both were undone in the same way, at least

Not sure anyone has posted about this yet, but I'm replaying Devil Survivor and it's weird as hell post-COVID.

I recommend checking it out if you haven't, especially if you can play the remake (it actually has a compendium feature, which is worth it alone.) It reminds me of the first Persona where it's rough around the edges but that just contributes to the whole oppressive atmosphere.

Devil Survivor: Tokyo's Locked Down and God's Mad About Fake News
It was a damned good game. Probably my second favorite SMT game behind Nocturne.

I'm playing through Soul Hackers right now and I love it so far! Before that, I beat the Persona 2 duology, which I liked too, though Innocent Sin had quite a few problems for me. Old-school type of games really appeal to me for some reason, thinking after I beat that game, I'll try the first two SMT games. Heard that they're a bitch to go through without a guide though

I couldn't really get myself through Q1, but I enjoyed Q2. Need to try and find some time to get into SMT, just don't have any solid foundation to start on. I would imagine most people would recommend Nocturne or something along those lines first.

Futaba seems like someone who would have a thread in Beauty Parlor, have a Kiwifarms account, or both. Yusuke would probably be an artcow. His thread would mostly discuss his terrible financial habits. I imagine his cooking isn't any better.

Didn't Chris and his mom try to run over Michael Snyder?

Does he get fancy with instant ramen like Haachama?

So, I got Strikers the other day and it's fine so far for what it is. Something about the level design I don't much care for. I want to say its the dull aesthetics relative to the motif, but platforming isn't satisfying either. It's kinda like Arkham where occupying the highest ground is preferred, but getting around can get confusing. The game does feel more like committee than Royal, which actually did fix 5's problems.

Adachi reminds me of DarkSydePhil more then other lolcows. Men who worked hard in school but never really networked in life causing them to not really go as far as they wanted to. They both have an inflated ego and love calling others childish for their different view points. I can feel a sense of hatred for women in both of them. The only difference is Adachi had a lot more going on in life then DSP.

I see Adachi as more of a KF user/2chan shitposter then a lolcow. Some jaded asshole who loves trolling people but is smart enough to not let his drama be out in the open. I honestly seem him making fun of weebs like Chris Chan and YanderDev.

Wait DSP actually worked hard?

naoto would be trans
No though if she was she'd be one of the chill trannies who doesnt like to draw attention to it rather than an attention whore. On the topic of persona lolcows Teddie and Morgana would be prime fucking candidates. Other lolcow candidates I can think of are Akihiko in anything post 3, The gourmet King, and the magician social link in 3, prince taurus from innocent sin (though he's more of a horror cow), and Ms Ideal also from innoce. Some of the palace owners in 5 would also qualify though they would mainly be along the lines of horrorcows (namely Madarame and Haru's dad)
