The cat is a cutie tbh. I have a soft spot for Russian Blues.
I only lurk here but I have to say, it's getting really REALLY fucking old hearing Quinton cry about not having time to make a video about whatever big online drama is going on. It only tells me he has absolutely no interest in actually making content he is passionate about or that he feels like he has something to add to the discussion. It's all views and money and asspats to him, Fucking cr1tikal will sit down in front of his PC, talk about whatever drama is going on, give his opinion and he's done. Edit it down a bit and alltogether it'll be maybe a couple of hours work, if that. Meanwhile Quinton makes it sound like he needs to rent a set, Hollywood actors for background extras and have all the great directors of the 20th century come together to make a video about some ethot throwing his cat on twitch. Like bro, make up your mind about this shit - do you want to do long-form videos a la Down the Rabbit Hole or Internet Historian's main channel or pump out daily or 3-4x-a-week videos that will be relevant to currently hype shit and will probably get you more money?
Quinton has fallen into the terrible predicament of the Milquetoast Youtuber. It's interesting to see him doing the ICarly special, because he feels a lot like a caricature of a Youtuber, or the estimation of one that would be played on a tv show.
This possibly could be the result of trying to play his hand in too many niches, as you previously discussed, causing his content to lack any real direction or unique taste. Think about it:
-Cr1tikal has his goofy riffing ability, plus he has been a mainstay for many years
-EmpLemon has evolved from a YTP background into actually making some high quality documentaries, that still stem from his sense of editing
-MeatCanyon has an interesting art style that stands out from a lot of his contemporaries.
-Internet Historian has gotten to the point where he literally makes short films out of stock photos.
Whether or not you agree with me, it must be at least agreed upon that each channel mentioned above brings something different to the table in their respective category. Call it a schtick, a gimmick, or an artistic choice, but it has tended to work out for these channels, at least enough to make them memorable to a large audience.
Which brings me to Quinton. What does Quinton do that stands out from any of the other droves of people who write essay type videos talking about a thing? He tried the whole Channel Awesome angle, the political angle, the film angle, etc. But it never feels like he is saying anything that actually comes from himself.
