I'd really like to know how many actual individual posters there are on 4chan and what the participation inequality between them looks like. On smaller boards and smaller chans, it's very noticeable how you constantly run into the same couple of posters in certain threads.

One massively overlooked disadvantage of anonymous posting is that it veils the actual size of a given community. A lot of supposed bot activity is probably just caused by a small set of massive autists always typing the same stuff into the same threads over and over again.

Its been the same for like 10 years. Still pepe, still wojak, chad versus virgin edits. I don't even think 4chan anymore for memes since its so stagnant and most of that stuff is flooded on the rest of the internet, it not an in-joke anymore.

For more than a decade. A decade. It's not a coincidence that 4chan stopped being relevant as a whole since the internet died in 2014.

I don't know, 4chan feels like a potemkin village to me as opposed to a large asylum. You sort the boards by reply count and on the less popular boards you'll find there aren't many conversations going on. And there's things like "Andy Sixx" that disgusting attempt at a forced meme that appeared many years ago on /b/, and is still there in some form literally 24/7 on that dumping ground of a board. There has to be some level of automation involved with that particular ...thing especially because it almost never appears anywhere else. Not to mention /b/ being abandoned like that despite being one of the flagship boards that got 4chan new users and notoriety (or used to).

Or the literal bots that appeared on /pol/ some years ago, where some youtuber created a bot to post on 4chan.

the autism of anons swith specific pet issues seems more genuine in smaller boards but on the fast moving ones, you realize a lot of threads keep getting made again and again with the exact same talking points and replies in a way thats not very spontaneous, like its all in a programmed rotation to keep the narrative going. Its like watching several botnets competing for attention at the same time so not much different than the rest of social media
