All of the archives still work fine. They’re not hosted on 4chan’s servers. As to whether or not they will work when 4chan goes back online, who knows.

Big if true that they're abandoning the existing software entirely, but a major risk. They've never tested anything else for scalability nor do I think anything set up that hastily is going to be properly checked for security.

The only possibility I could think of is if the email to the janitors alluding to new server hardware was essentially that they were planning to make this move to newer board software all along and the hack forced their hand... if true, either the timing of the hack is extremely extremely fortunate in that they were 99% done setting up the new hardware and about to cut over, or they are now bumrushing trying to get new board software finished to be setup.

I think it's more likely that they're scrambling to set something up before people flee to other sites in a vacuum, but I don't have any inside information on this.

To me, that sounds more like patching the existing site software rather than migrating to Vichan.

Another possibility is that they're essentially trying to buy time to not have the site become irrelevant from going offline. Clean install latest versions of everything, vanilla Vichan instance, let people play around as "the old site "you know and love is fixed", patch the old site at leisure without your userbase fleeing. A fairly vanilla instance on modern versions would probably have a low attack surface for direct exploits. Spam might be an issue though.

The exact reason for the /qa/ shutdown remains speculative but Sharty users believe mods aimed to clean up off-topic threads as /qa/ was known for soyjak spam and schizoposting. The board was permanently locked on November 3rd, 2021.

It is unclear what he has access to, but supposedly emails are securely one-way hashed.

I severely doubt that they were actually planning to migrate the servers 'soon' given how they obviously hadn't cared about keeping things up to date. That just sounds like RapeApe covering his ass, claiming that they were planning to do 'something' without any evidence of course. I'm glad that the site will in fact be back. I like 8chan a lot more functionality wise, but having the whole community together is important.

you're replying to bullshit because a vanilla vichan is terrible for both user and the moderation staff. 4chan had a pretty advanced mod panel that vichan can't compare with.
