I decided to scroll through a few boards the other day (/sp/ and /r9k/ because the former is something I’m actually interested in and the former might have had something interesting). I mostly just checked the nba and nfl threads in /sp/, both of them were filled with unfunny shitposting, most of which has trickled down from r*ddit communities like NBAcirclejerk. R9k was fucking AWFUL though.

I scrolled through all 10 pages and didn’t see a single thread worth even engaging with. It was either people venting about depression (which I’m fine with, the problem is 99% of the time it’s clear that their situation is caused by their own inaction), ragebait, poorly disguised sexual fantasies, general threads for losers that would be outcasted from any other board (why is there a general for guys who want to have sex with their mother?), and incel discussions that got old in 2015.

I just don’t understand what still drives people to go on 4chan anymore. Unless you’re a regular in a general with the same 10 people, there is no good discussion on there.

Habits. Its part of their routine to browse the chans and they haven't kicked it. Personally using it for a couple of generals as most of the site is mod-abetted ad spam.

I have been browsing the site and some of its boards because I've been bored and got nothing else to do, /[s4s]/ seems like one of the nicest boards. /r9k/, fuck man. The premise behind that board is cool on its own, where each post has to be original, but how the fuck can you have the exact same "WOMEN BAD I AM A NICE GUY" posts if its supposed to auto ban you for posting something unoriginal? I finally just closed that board because I saw a thread of some retard complaining about how people think rape is a big deal. Fuck that cesspool.
/po/ is a wasteland, not touching /mlp/, at least /x/ is kind of cool when you don't have the same exact thread going on about how to summon a succubi.

I'd imagine anonymity is the largest part and because it's used by so many people already are the main driving factors. But it seems like most of its userbase are centered around /b/, /pol/, and /r9k/ which just so happens to be the biggest fucking cesspools on the site.

Also why does [s4s] have brackets?

/r9k/ has a genuine grooming problem through their discords and troonery. It's best to stay clear of that, I believe most of the incels went to /adv/, but that isn't any better because the how to get women thread with advice from "females" feels groomery. Plus /adv/ is garbage in it's own way. The only people I believe who are still on 4chan are those who have no idea where else to go and want to stay anonymous, the schizos who want to stir shit as they will be banned in most places, and porn addicts. The generals are practically discords and/or have moved to their own groomcord secret clubs.

Bit of a late reply but I found a site that has archives of the early days of 4chan. Not sure when he removed /l/ but it must've been after a lot of backlash or legal trouble.

pretty sure that somewhere later in this thread there is a screencap of moot stating that /l/ was flooded with cheese pizza. It's not worth bothering with since you attract real sickos.

I don’t think there was ever an attempt to cater to anything but ironic/edgy loli . At some point moot figured out there was no such thing and got tired of seething about where the boundaries were.

Wasnt he 15 when he started 4chan? I think he was just a teen that wanted to host a website on which anything goes. I dont think at that point in time he thought that would attract actual CP posters, or that he would have to appear in court to explain 4chan lingo, or that he would deal with a bunch of celebrity lawyers angry at him for hosting a fappening hotspot.

I think for 4chan the loli board was more of a containment thing to keep it from the rest of the boards and just considered a weird off brand fetish like guro or scat, but that was before moot knew better and had to deal with all the other shit pedoniggers tend to bring in their wake. Guro fans can discuss their fetish without it going to real violence, scat enjoyers can discuss their fetish without moot getting dirty diapers in the mail but when you open your doors to loliniggers it ALWAYS circles back to grooming and CSAM.

There's some degenerate altchan that kept spamming ads on 4chan that had a similar issue, so much pedo shit that they eventually had to shut it all down because it kept looping back to illegal content being posted/shared.
