Analog Horror/World Building general - A tranny boys club deciding what should and shouldn't scare zoomers + geek out about cool projects made by people with real talent

Granted, doing all that isn't "hard" for most people, but for kids it's a lot and for most casual watchers, they don't have the time or interest to do that. So I will give guys like Wendigo, Nexpo, and Nightmind a little credit in that they aren't just summarizing a straightforward plot. It is more like they are condensing all the little nibbles of plot and info and presenting it in one solid, easily digestible video that casuals can put on while they do something else.
I definitely appreciate the people who compile everything about a series into one video/playlist. It's one thing to try and show someone something fun in person where we can have a nice chat while I fumble my way through Twitter messages and an old unmaintained website that doesn't really work on modern browsers, honestly that kind of adds to the charm, but to try and show an internet fren something where I can't see what they're doing as they're doing it to know when to tell them to check out the website that frustratingly doesn't work on their browser of choice just drains all the fun.

Obviously it's not the same experience as fumbling through it in person where they can ask questions in real time and I can point out little details that I remember missing the first time around but sending them a single link and saying "check this out when you have an hour and let me know what you think tomorrow" is vastly superior to "ok watch these five videos and I will monolog my interpretation of what I think they mean at you then send you more links" and then halfway through I realize they missed something so we have to go back because they have no idea what I'm talking about anymore

Even for myself, when I'm revisiting something I experienced in real time a while back, I usually prefer an all-in-one summary that doesn't take input from me that I can just leave running on my second monitor

I'd love it if more creators had their own summaries/compilations so I could give them more viewtime etc. In or out of character, either way would be fine

I agree with you here, totally. The reason this whole community of people explaining analogs or ARGs or unfiction even exists is on paper because there's always going to be something that slips away for most people and as a creator it does feel nice when someone sees what you are doing and either found that clever reference you hid or assigned a completely new meaning to what you did. Dare I say, is validating and there's no higher rush as an artist.

To keep this thread related I want to bring it to the only analog that I ever took seriously: the Monument Mythos. I still remember I was at work when the importance of the name Virginia Arnoldson hit me like a fucking brick. She is named after the state Washington was born at and her surname is a family of traitors from the perspective of the US government (hence Arnold sons). She and her friends have their organs backwards as if they were mirrored, prolly as a reference to Alice Trough the Looking Glass. Seeing those kind of things makes you feel like you just uncovered the national treasure. I still have this little doc I made with all the stuff I indentified, like I was hoping that the Maize subplot meant that the great city of Cahokia was restored after the 2003 apocalypse. Do I feel silly in restrospect. I wish I had archived the American Anatomy and the Trinity Desk but at that point I had just learned how much of a schizo Alex was.

Alex has created a new series: Alternate American Folklore and it is the first time I've checked on him and his community since he memoryholed the Monument Mythos Today. It's a comeback to implied cosmic horror rather than sociopolitical commentary, which is always a plus, and I bothered to see if the community around it has anyone trying to make sense of it.

Well, tell me if youse want my notes. This is a story in progress after all.

I don't know if it falls fully under Analog Horror but does anyone know what's up with the author behind 'The Hypnagogic Archive'? It's another one Wendigoon covered.

The video part of that ARG was an unwatchable mess but I enjoyed some of the short stories he wrote for it, quick reads with some fun concepts and ideas.

When I tried looking up more found a very small youtube channel claiming to be the person behind it. Looks like he tried to sell hand drawn comics or something which serves as the "conclusion" of the story? Channel has no engagement and guy is either putting on an act or is a real sperg.

Well, since this thread was made to contain analog horror sperging, I'm going to give you a play-by-play of a very autistic analog found by @Doctor of Autism, the Jojo's analog horror.

Full disclosure: I'm a Jojofag. I made posts to rag on Mother's Basement for his jojo viewing order (which is shit) for why it doesn't work and why very few people even considered it. I made a lengthy 'what I would do' of Jojolion when it ended. Jojo is one of the few weeb things I feel confidently knowledgeable about so it is an honour to make this effortpost for those of you that want to know what stupid shit happens in this story but don't want to watch it. I'll try to keep this as beginner friendly as possible but it will have spoilers for parts that already were adapted to animation.

My common criticisms of how using tapes to write stuff down rather than record it, misspelings and anachronisms and incorrect understanding of how analog media degrades aren't going to be repeated here. Otherwise we will be here all day.

Da review
If it wasn't already autistic enough to make an analog horror about JJBA, the whole thing is framed as the tapes belonging to the Speedwagon Foundation, but only sometimes. On paper this would be the best approach, they are a pretty interesting aspect of the original universe that wasn't used that much besides aiding Joseph and Jotaro, and they have access to relics and technology that could serve to make a good side story. But in this analog they pretty much are the SCP Foundation, down to abusing black bars and [REDACTED]s. Each of these tapes is corrupted with personal messages by the channel owner, Junius B, who is meant to be a character in universe giving intel back and forth through YouTube that consists mostly of documenting gore.

In Purple Haze Feedback (not canon sadly), the Speedwagon Foundation reaches out to Passione in order to capture the last remaining cell of the old mafia. Here the Foundation reaches out to a Passione clean-up crew located in Lousiana of all places after what appears to be a stand battle with civilian casualties. The first video presents us with a survivor account, the second is the analog trope of training video where we see the crew and get a description of their stands. The crew, accompanied by a Foundation researcher, engage in a gruesome battle where the researcher dies horribly. The kicker is that apparently it all started inside a CVS in Michigan.

The aftermath of this battle is a conversation censored by Junius where a character named Valen laments, tells one of their comrades to lay low and admits knowing this particular researcher beforehand. Valen is the only character that wasn't doxed by Junius so you know whoever this is matters. Is also in this one where for some reason Junius adds commentary, which forced me to pause constantly just to read that the crew ditched the jelly-like corpse of the researcher.

So, who is Valen? Plot synopsis so far, count this started in 2022 and you may believe this a Jojolands fanfic. Her name is Dionne Brando, the Third ffs, there are more of Dio's children and all of them share the same last name. Also, Pucci's niece. All of this is revealed like its a Death Grips video. Dionne's stand turns everything into an .EXE game. This whole series is called Futuro Sangue Versato (future blood shed if you put it in Translate). Hotel? Trivago.

This is the point when everything starts to look like a wojak movie made by Joel Harver. Dionne killed her friends, retrieved the stand arrow, killed some more people and has a convo with her squad leader about wanting out while name-dropping that Fugo and Polnareff don't like her. Character wise, Dionne is like if Fugo was a Soundcloud rapper. Even her stand is a drank tier rap song. At the club, her inner monolgue tells us she was shagging the comrades she killed and may also be doing it with her boss. She gets promoted to personal security of Giorno, Mista and Polnareff.

According to the Speedwagon Foundation, she is the daughter of soviet migrants and has four other Brando brothers. This mf flashed some binary code I won't bother to decode. Then this shit gets really meta because Emporio, who works for the Foundation, is watching one of the videos and compares it to the Mandela Catalogue 2. Emporio found it because he was babysitting Irene's (Jolyne after universe reset) kids and it autoplayed. I won't even bother to question how or why this should be possible.

This is the part when this whole concept stops being analog and becomes a regular fanfic.

ACT 1: Eternal Days of Night
Dionne's stand can control people. She uses it to make them commit sudoku. Her stand is making them aware of being killed now. Dionne makes a guy commit sudoku in front of Giorno. Dionne talks to squad mate about it. She writes this development in her iPhone notes. Dionne asks if she is a psycopath. Mate reaffirms she is. Dionne gets triggered and asks if she is one of the pretty ones.

Another Dio related Passione goon is killed. Dionne and her mate are called to the scene. Don't know what the latter stand does but she had to search photos of Yosemite Sam on her iPhone to use it. Most of the OCs are Dio's bastards, including the killed goon whose arms and birthmark are taken away, a blood QR code drawn on the wall. This is the video with the image of Giorno, Mista and Fugo standing outside a house. The twist here is that Dionne and her entire family are the descendants of Dio's original weak sperm.

Stand attack related to QR code. A flashback with Pucci in NOLA. Dionne survives and is interrogated by Polnareff. They don't like each other. Polnareff, Mista and even Fugo are all consiglieres which I guess is a progression of Polnareff being in the position in PHF.

Passione and the Speedwagon Foundation officially join forces. Dionne, the iPhone bitch and another goon are joined by Foundation agent Armani Virgil (the same guy that watched YouTube videos with Emporio) and Jounichi Higashikata (Josuke's son). Their mission is to find and dismantle a cult in Danville, Kentucky that claims Dio is back (Junius is supposed to be Dio). They all meet in an airport where Armani and JoJo dox their stands just before the stand from before attacks again. This time they managed to kill the user via carnivorous plant. Dionne is left quite on edge and experiences suicidal ideation.

The suicide squad makes it to Danville and Dionne fights with her squad mate (the same iPhone bitch) inside a petrol station about whether Giorno's claim that the entire town had been taken over by the cult was bogus. Dionne makes it outside were she picks a fights with the two Speedwagon guys too. Something that I hadn't really mentioned is that Junius (JB) leaves notes in all the videos giving context, in this exchange JB says that his nerves were on edge because America is a shithole compared to South London and that if he were to get shot he would bleed to death because he doesn't have insurance or citizenship. This note happens as JB is standing right next to all the people previously mentioned eavesdropping and then says he wishes he had her stand for musical touring. Armani conflates Dionne with the rest of Brandos, Dionne being a papist calls him a Southern Baptist for badmouthing Pucci. Armani calls Emporio again and Emporio once again breaks the fourth wall. Dionne calls Pucci and expositions that Wes (Weather) still lives in Florida and Perla is a living Texan landlord. iPhone hoe confronts Dionne about the call, threathing with Mista dragging her ass back to Italy. Dionne says she rather have Fugo kill her. Armani tries to patch things up, Dionne has a fight with her own stand in the Holiday Inn parking lot.

Junius encounters Dionne at a cafe and tells her that he made an analog horror with info about her. Dionne says that she doesn't care because neither Wendigoon nor Nightmind nor Wowman made videos about it. Emporio, feeling the presence of a fellow analog horror enjoyer, is tapping the call. JB is one of Dio's sons. Dionne asks if JB made a tacky video announcing all of Danville, KY belonged to him.

Thus, they travel together. Dionne not happy with ditching allies and desobyeing orders has the audacity to start a slapfight with Fugo via call in front of the fucking servo. Basically Giorno told these people to kill the people selling drugs to kids and some of those were kids. Fugo deadass tells her she ain't a threath. Once over, her stand tells her they should start a new gang in the South. More exposition. Dionne basically has the generic Soundcloud rapper backstory (doing drugs, selling drugs, estranged relatives) and joined Passione after attending a Trish concert. Passione orders for to get Dionne back, so we get more exposition. The Lousiana clean-up crew were a bunch of dysfunctional, self-destructive assholes with no real loyalty to Passione. Armani feels pity for Dionne because she went to juvie.

Dionne and JB make it to Big Piney and a pair of cops try to detain them, so our protagonists use their stands to make them commit sudoku. The rest of our heroes dispose of Dionne's brother in a motel room. Armani pulled the trigger and Speedwagon is paying for it. Dionne and JB make it to NOLA and he admits that her brother was in his cult as they get to her mother's house. Dionne isn't even mad against anyone other than Passione and sends her new BFF to stalk them during the funeral. Dionne catches up with her brothers while drinking, then they all start arguing about who is the biggest fuckup. Rohan namedrop. More edgelord shit. Back in Italy, Melone's half-brother and a friend are Giorno wasn't the original boss truthers and exposition about a new gangstar faction. Giorno has a call with Dionne's old boss, namedropping Volpe, Polpo, Bucciaratti and Doppio. Dionne and Pucci reunite at the funeral, y'know this is reset Pucci because he says it is impossible to control fate or... gravity. The video tribute triggers Dionne's stand to lust for blood. Dionne and her mother have a heart-to-heart at the cemetary. Later that night, our two psycopaths go on a Passione goon killing spree with bledding eyes and hyperealistic blood where Dionne lets her stand go and ends up evolving. Stand evolution is supposed to signify character development and self-actualization in JJBA btw.

That was Act 1. It was a chore to get through it and Act 2 isn't finished yet. This was autistic but not amusing autistic. This was TTS voices away from being old Tamers12345 without any of entertainment value. This trash only has ambience and some music, so the only way to know what's going on is by reading rapidly flashing subtitles that appear irregularly on screen. It took me this long because it really is that much of a slog. No wonder this shit barely has an audience to begin with.

Honestly the fact its an incomprehensible fanfiction where they do the lazy tropes of making everyone related to established characters while also bringing in characters that really don't make sense to be there (like Pucci is supposed to not exist in the universal reset for example) and also where the hell would Dio have time to fuck people as his original self, like I guess maybe a college fling but he still tried to maintain a good public image.

It says a lot how this is barely analog horror and I'm talking about it like a fanfic.

The meta elements too make it really damn silly and break immersion.

The funniest shit is that as I have said, this series is not even scary since regular Jojo is scarier than this.

Imagine trying to make an online horror series about an established IP and being less scary than the original. Its not like you couldn't make a good analog horror out of it because stands would be terrifying if they were real and there is a good framing device of the Speedwagon Foundation that could document incidents like this, but nope it would rather be a bullshit Part 5 heavy fanfiction.

Isn't the entire point of the universal reset that the Joestar family doesn't have bizarre adventures anymore and they all get to live and be normal people with normal, happy lives? Seems pointless to make it take place in that universe if it's just more of the same shit but more poorly written.

Anyway God bless you for covering this shit, shame it wasn't funnier in the end.

Like the first five parts still happen but uh Pucci and everything involving him shouldn't really happen yet this girl was somehow raised by Pucci and presumably he would be an active antagonist in this ""analog horror""

And somehow all the kids of Dio come together despite that only happening in the OG because of Pucci's ritual magically drawing anyone with Dio's blood to him.

That's the answer. Dio while on his original body fucked some girl and the Brandos in this fanfic are their descendants. They mostly moved to the USSR but the active players are all in NOLA.

I found another JJBA analog in Portuguese (at least a video about it) and it has better art but still doesn't look that promising.
Does this have any actual plot? 'Cus all of that sounds like just a bunch of barely strung together encounters where the MC presses her win button move. If you're gonna make Jojo fanfiction, you could at least make some interesting stands for cool encounters.
Not really. I tried to make sense of it at the start but shit really just happens. For example, the stands I remember:
Dionne: Geek High, controls people, she uses it to make them kill themselves and that somehow is tied to it having its own consciousness and evolving.
JB has a posession stand. He even says is kind of the same thing.
Ondulata (the iPhone bitch): The reason they partner up is because her stand is long range but I couldn't retain what it does.
Gex: The Passione goon that has a stand to find shit.
Armani: Roses are Red, makes plants homicidal but doesn't really buff them or anything.
Josuke Jr: Feel Good Inc, can heal people but only based on a point system.

We aren't beating the boss with this one. The battles were as corny as the stands.
Isn't the entire point of the universal reset that the Joestar family doesn't have bizarre adventures anymore and they all get to live and be normal people with normal, happy lives? Seems pointless to make it take place in that universe if it's just more of the same shit but more poorly written.
I've my own fanfic about a Joestarless post-reset main universe and now I know it won't be the most retarded fanmade thing posted this year.

All I'm saying is that the world of Jojos without the noble, heroic main bloodline could at the very least be something interesting even if it just turns out to be Shrek Forever After.

Teen me had one where the key to figuring out a villain's power was Josuke noticing that her breasts were changing size; and that still doesn't make me cringe as much as reading about this analog crap.

That sounds like something that would actually happen in JoJo. inb4 Mariah

I kinda touched on this analog horror before, but the other Batman analog horror guy made a behind the scenes video about it, and it is pretty interesting to hear the perspective of how one of these things are made, would kinda want to hear this sort of BTS stuff for the more mainstream stuff that got super popular.

Not sure if this is the right place but the “the man in the suit” series is cancelled.

Sorry for the late reply. They claimed that the Godzilla fanbase was horribly toxic, but provides no context or examples like all these other people who claim something is "toxic." Chances are they got one or two trolls or read something they didn't like. They're nothing more than some Tumblrite who's skin is as thin as paper. How do I know this? They immediately went to the Murder Drones fandom, one of the most degenerate, far-left, "toxic" (usually toxic positivity until breathes incorrectly, then all hell breaks loose) fandoms out there that is beloved by plebbitors and Tumblrites alike. Guy is either in for a rude awakening or it's exactly like I said at the start of this paragraph.

Guys, I'm not gonna lie. I'm a petty little bitch. You probably noticed for how I write but I am. That's for truth. So instead of allowing my frustrations to contaminate the thread, I'm going to do something that those bastards can't do. Since there isn't any other thread for it and it technically is on topic, I'm going to share with you some funnies.

SpecEvo and globohomo sensibilities

This isn't a randomly generated word salad, it will make sense with some examples. This is real journalism. It was something I was going to write about before this thread spazzed back to life on its own.

Probably most of you already know what SpecEvo is but here's an intro in case you don't. Speculative Evolution is a subgenre of science fiction related to how organisms evolve in fictional circumstances that has experienced a golden age in the last couple of years. Chances are that you are aware of IPs such as The Future is Wild, Primeval, All Tomorrows and the work of Dougal Dixon but we aren't talking about those today.

SpecEvo by its very nature attracts a certain type of people. You may even say is like the anti-alternate history in that regard. And just like AltHist, separating the work from the author or just sometimes tapping at the right time or not digging too deep will come a long way on helping you enjoying it. The following stories are fully recommended by me but you'll get why I wanted to talk about them.

Serina
The World of Serina might be the only one of these that people are going to be aware of. Is the very simple prompt of a moon only inhabited by lifeforms you could get at a pet store that has inspired several (and I mean several) projects that can be summarized as bare-bones ecosystem where the main star is a pet that evolves in crazy forms. What isn't talked about much is that it has its own tropes and the main one we are talking about today is what happens when sapience arises.

The first time time it happens it was straightforward. Sapience is the consequence of an evolutionary arms race between predator and prey, where the fish deer almost genocide the bird badgers. It was simple, it was effective and the world was dying so it provides a nice little bow to the story. But then it kept going and some of you will get why I'm screeching autistically in written form.

It started simple. For some reason, male fish deer can delay maturity and a third gender arises. Ok, whatever. Then the ice age saga begins, the fish deer die out and turns out that two races of bird dolphins were retconned as the real origin of sapience. Our bird friends start a holy war and unite as one civilization of ecosystem engineers trying to mitigate the lowering temperatures. There are gay bird dolphins, what of it. Then, it happens. A brainlet albino bird drops fire on peat moss and the whole world burns. Serina went from being a bunch of scientific profiles on animals that don't exist to an epic story that ends when our main characters are saved by space bird god and delivered to a new world were the threat isn't real. The elephant birds can go fuck themselves.

After that, the concept does a 180. Ice age is replaced by drying out and Serina gives us an explosion of sapient species. And we arrive at the whole reason I decided to complain. Dylan Bajda has gone full autist and is making a saga. One of its main components is a race of kelpies that has the concept of transgenderism, vaccines and the steam engine. It doesn't make more sense if you read it by yourself.

What really did it for me was that if you are a certain tier Patreon supporter you can get your own leucrocotta OC.
1741276081400.png

Tales of Kaimere
Tales of Kaimere is really good. If you are a fellow prehistoric animal enjoyer and you haven't checked this one, you are missing out BIG TIME.

Premise is very simple. A world whose only native life form is type of bacteria that has been harvesting life from Earth through the ages to form its own ecosystem. The setting is dominated by dinosaurs, just not the ones you may recognize while mammals either living in their shadow or living in the fringes of the known world. There are humans in Kaimere, but they descent from Homo Erectus and they have their own legends of a race of tyrants that used magic to rule and bend life.

If you stick to the animal profile videos, you are golden. They are fascinating, educational and quite creative. There are even books you can buy in real life based on this world and if you have a couple Benjamins to spare, you can even commission a video on a specific topic.

This is the part when someone had the brilliant idea of commissioning a video on sexual minorities and gender expression in this setting. Tbf, it isn't terrible and compared to other human related shit is quite tolerable.

Kaimere was discovered by Earth's scientists and they have an assembly mainly composed of witches, warlocks, vampires and werevolves that are almost all the named characters.

Tbf, you need a very good deal of autism to make a project this ambitious and well put together.

Cas3yArt
We arrive at the whole reason I decided to subject youse to my bitching. If you like Touhou monsters, there's a chance you've seen this guy's work as he has a series redesigning them to be biologically realistic. Well, I got hooked on a series he made recently about certain animals path to sapience and I made the choice to close my sperging for reason that will become very obvious.

The art is really nice. The concepts are really creative. The videos themselves are packed with theories based on real life stuff that perfectly blends real science with speculative fantasy.

The video on dogs becoming sapient was inspired by Bluey. The video on raccons by Guardians of the Galaxy. The one on apes is self-explanatory. What pushed me to write all of this bullshit was that on his most recent video, crows becoming sapient.
