Andrew Tate (full name Emory Andrew Tate III) is a British-American influencer/motivational speaker/men’s rights activist, businessman, former 4x kickboxing world champion and former pimp. He also goes by the monikers Top G and Cobratate, and has previously used aliases like Mr. Plenty or variations on Morpheus (Matrix reference).
Andrew Tate has been around on the Internet for a while, but exploded on social media over the summer of 2022. Allegedly this was thanks to an affiliate marketing strategy through which he leveraged the members of his Hustler’s University (a subscription-only training course teaching how to make fast money online) to advertise on his behalf basically for free; but it doesn’t really matter how he pulled it off. The fact is that the scale of his popularity, coupled with the controversial nature of many of his statements, attracted the attention of Big Tech.
Between August 19th and August 23rd 2022, Tate was systematically banned from social media, including Instagram, Facebook, Youtube and Twitter (Elon brought him back in November 2022). This was likely precipitated by reports, amplified by the media, that Tate had become extremely influential with the teenage male demographic. This has been most notable in (formerly great) Britain, where articles proudly boast of brainwashing kids to undo the harm caused by Tate. In subsequent interviews, Tate has claimed he was banned from payment processors, had bank accounts shut down and was also banned from Uber and Air BnB. I’m inclined to agree with Tate when he says he was banned not for any specific statement he made but because he was getting too influential while voicing opinions that are now considered verboten.
Tate is first and foremost a salesman, and he sells his lifestyle to young men. At the most basic level he's saying: "pay me $50/month, join my team if you want to become a multimillionaire jet-setting playboy".

Andrew Tate was born to Emory Andrew Tate II (an African-American veteran, former CIA linguistics consultant and chess player/hustler who attained the rank of International Master) and Eileen Ashleigh (an English woman of Irish heritage) on December 1 1986. He has a younger brother, Tristan Tate, with whom he claims to “share everything besides women and underwear”, as well as a sister, Janine (Tate) Webb, who is married and lives in the US. He also has numerous relatives in the US on his dad's side and a few in the UK on his mom's side.
He spent part of his childhood in the US, then moved to Luton, England with his mother after his parents separated, where he grew up very much lower class and lived on a council estate. Tate may have held a number of jobs in his late teens and early 20s, including running a business selling TV advertisements, which was only moderately successful and eventually went under.
Tate has stated in the past that as a child of 5 or 6 living in the US he became State Chess champion in the <16 category. This seems to be a complete fabrication, although the anecdote he recounts about beating a 15-year-old and making him cry may be true. The only available chess records indicate that Tate participated in tournaments locally in the US as a child, where he achieved modest results and never won a tournament outright. His best result appears to have been a 5th place in his section at the 1997 Elkhart County Scholastic [1].

Fighting career
Tate began training in fight sports as a teen, both in MMA and kickboxing before settling on the latter. He fought under the moniker “King Cobra” and competed until 2016, after which he retired, perhaps in part due to eye problems (in fact in some videos where he doesn’t wear sunglasses it seems that Tate suffers from mild strabismus). In 2020 he made a comeback and fought 3 times in Romania, although these later fights were against novices and in a small Romanian fighting promotion (the Tates have been associated with Real Xtreme Fighting). Since kickboxing is really an underground sport it’s hard to find reliable info on his fight career[2]. Wikipedia appears to have the most extensive fight record on him, but people have been messing with it lately. Here’s his fight record as it appeared on his Wikipedia page in April 2022. Many of these fights are still on Youtube.
Tate challenged Jake Paul to a fight a couple of years ago, before Paul demonstrated his talent as a boxer. More recently Tate has avoided answering challenges directly, either to fight Jake or his brother Logan, and most commentators agree that Tate has too much to lose. Here is a former Olympic boxer analysing Tate’s skills and saying Tate would probably lose to Logan Paul.
Celebrity
Andrew and his brother Tristan have both been chasing after fame for some time. Andrew appeared on a reality TV show called Ultimate Traveller which seems to have aired in 2010. He had to drop out before the end due to an eye problem. His brother Tristan also participated in a reality TV show, Shipwrecked: The Island, in 2011, but didn’t win.
It’s interesting that both brothers admit to wanting to manipulate their way to victory in these shows. Both Andrew and Tristan strike me as the kind of people who can justify lies and deceit, and various otherwise immoral behaviour, as long as they view other people as fair game. Or another way of putting it might be: “if I’m able to take advantage of you then you deserve it”. In the context of a TV show, where the purpose is to win, this is perhaps understandable.
In 2016 Andrew managed to get selected as a housemate on Big Brother 17, but was soon kicked off the show after a video surfaced showing Tate mistreating a woman. Both claim this was consensual roleplay.
The Tates have tried to create their own reality shows, first with “The Hateful Tates” in 2016 and 2017, then with Tate Confidential, which has been on-going since 2019.
Tate Confidential is by far the most intriguing thing they put out, because it blurs the lines between reality and fiction and creates an illusion which is hard to see through. According to this show they, especially Tristan, drink ungodly quantities of booze all the time and often drive around Europe in fast cars. Tate Confidential is filmed by their “cousin” Luc (who may actually be their half-brother)[3], who apparently worked at Chipotle before the brothers flew him out to Romania and offered to have him work for them.
Part of Tate's attempt to cultivate the gangster persona has been to produce music every now and then. Over the last few years, he has released a bunch of songs with different artists under the name "Mr. Plenty"[4]. The lyrics are usually very cheesy, but they're professionally produced.

Business
Around the mid-2010s he began pimping out his girlfriends (he claims to have called a bunch of his exes and offered them to cam for him). His strategy was to let the girls perform on camera while he was the one behind the keyboard communicating with the viewer. He claims to have been an expert at this, getting lonely men to part with vast sums of money. Together with his brother he grew this business to the point where, at its peak, he was managing about 75 girls, working for him in several locations around Europe, with extra staff hired to do the communicating. Tristan claimed that at its peak this business was raking in $ 5 million/year. Although Andrew says he left the business, Tristran was apparently still involved in an OnlyFans management agency until recently.
The brothers eventually settled in Romania, where they appear to have started other business ventures. They own a franchise in a gambling arcade chain called Las Vegas Games which has a vast number of locations throughout Romania and Eastern Europe. The Google reviews for these arcades are usually of two kinds: 5-star reviews probably posted by management/sock-puppets, 1-star reviews by disgruntled gamblers complaining that the slot-machines are fixed. But what can you say about fools and money?
According to his Instagram account, Tristan also has real-estate ventures in the country and has plans to build a gaudy Dracula castle on a plot of land he purchased in the Carpathians.
Andrew set up a money-making training programme called Hustler’s University 2.0 (I dunno if there ever was a 1.0). For $50/month you could access to lessons by Tate and join a Discord server where instructors would teach you a number of different money-making strategies. Tate claimed huge membership numbers for Hustler’s University, but I can’t help but think these figures were inflated; it’s marketing 101 to make people think your product is hotter than it really is just to make it more appealing to a prospective buyer. After Big Tech banished Tate from social media he closed Hustler’s University down. It seems Discord may also have banned him at this time. He has planned to relaunch the programme under a new name “The Real World”, promising to let people join with the original monthly fee of $50 before planning to hike the price to $150 in November.
After closing down Hustler’s University, Tate began shilling his other main product extra hard: The War Room is Tate’s own private Illuminati, which you can join for a steal. $4497 grants you access for one year.
Drama
Andrew has been very vocal on politics over the years, although recently his only gripe has been about the Coronavirus. A couple of years ago he even hosted the Alex Jones show. His main positions are that most Western countries are failed societies and that feminism is the cancer destroying everything, and that any smart person with money should get the hell out and take steps to protect himself from tyranny.
In April 2022, the Romanian police raided Tate’s compound in Bucharest because of a report alleging a woman was being held there against her will. The Tates have not always been consistent on what exactly happened. The media have accused Tate of being a “human trafficker”, while Tate claims the raid was the result of a disgruntled boyfriend/ex- who saw photos of his girl at Tate’s place and then complained to the US embassy in Bucharest. Tate claims he was never arrested and that the case is now closed.
He got into online spats with two different people around the time he was banned: Ethan Klein and Daz Black (aka Darren Blackmore). Both had made inaccurate statements about Tate, and he apparently sent Klein a cease and desist letter. Daz Black claimed he had talked to one of Tate’ exes who was willing to go on record about him, but this never happened. Meanwhile the Tates began to accuse Daz of being a groomer, because he had a one night stand with a girl who had been his fan and had taken photos with him a number of years prior, when she was 13.
Is Andrew Tate for real?
I’d have to say yes. Although his brash persona may be a performance for the camera and deliberately provocative and controversial to rake up views, it seems he can back up most of what he claims. He’s no Tai Lopez, renting out Lambos and villas to record videos. But is Tate a grifter? Absolutely. He says he doesn’t care about the money, etc. but that doesn’t stop him shilling his products very aggressively (and probably effectively). Judging by his lifestyle he’s doing all right. In fact Tate may be just about the most effective grifter operating on the Internet today.
He's a talented and intelligent bullshit artist who probably wants fame, influence and money in equal measure. A whole lot of what he says is true, but I think that ultimately he really only cares about selling his product as effectively as possible. He doesn’t have many deeply-rooted moral convictions. He is wishy-washy on many issues. In early interviews he would boast about having a harem of women, but now deflects questions about his private life saying he’s a good Christian. In other words, the Tate of 6-12 months ago is not the same as the Tate of today, who probably won’t be the same as the Tate of 6-12 months down the road. I’ll leave it up to you to decide whether he’s a good or a bad person.
Location:
Tate owns a compound in Bucharest (Stradă Drumul Bisericii 50A, Voluntari 077190, Romania) where is now lives, as well as an older mansion in the region. He may also have bought a mansion in Dubai which is under construction. He owns numerous other properties in Romania, some of which were revealed when the police seized them after his arrest.
