Os are tied for first despite battling injuries, offense woes, defensive lapses, and starting pitching concerns. Lets gooo.

You can stick a fork in the Astros, swept in Seattle after giving up 9, 8, and 6 runs to what was the worst offense in baseball going into the series. A team ERA of six-and-a-half makes them the worst in the Majors by an entire earned run, and a team WHIP of 1.704 is nearly 200 points worse than the 2nd worst team. These numbers count Hunter Brown, who's given up 1 run over 10.2 innings this year and is likely out long term, so it's even worse than what I just said. They've won one game since sweeping Boston and may end the year with 90+ losses.

Tatsuya Imai went there to sabotage Houston before going to his real team, all according to plan.

Shouldn't have banged those fucking trash cans

The Mariners couldn't possibly stay as bad offensively as they had been over the first 4 series. In the heart of the lineup, Rodriguez, Naylor, and Raleigh have been guaranteed outs, and only in this Houston series are they finally showing faint signs of life.

Houston is absolutely fucked at the moment, and is likely to stay so for a while. Half of their starting roster is on the IL. They're essentially running a AAA pitching staff. The number of walks they gave up in this series was staggering. To be fair, despite all of the injuries, their offense was still good in this series (aside from Sunday's game), it just can't overcome how bad the pitching is.

If it was anyone but the Astros, I'd feel sorry for them.

Recently I watched a video talking about the 2005 Astros and how they came back from being the worst team in the division to make the World Series, where they got swept by the Chicago White Sox. The Houston Chronicle even put a coffin with the Astros logo on the front page before the comeback happened, so it's certainly possible. I would love to see an Rangers-Astros rematch in the playoffs on the way to the Texas Rangers' second World Series title, but who knows what could happen? It's too early to tell. Here's the link to that video.

Since they're being mentioned, Phil Garner who managed that 2005 team, passed away yesterday from cancer at the age of 76.

Nine players have had multi-homer games today, and the day isn't even over yet.
I do wonder if we are in another juiced ball year?

Also re the Mets game

Last night, the Cubs turned a 13-3 game into a 13-7 game (still a loss, but I'm proud they narrowed the gap). Tonight, they're leading 7-4 in the 8th. Go Cubs Go!

Edit: Fuck yeah, Cubs win 10-4!

To say the hitting conditions have been favorable in Citizens Bank Park the last couple of nights would be underselling them just a tiny bit. 34 runs in two games and plenty of those via the long ball. Plus a few ringing doubles that missed going out by inches.

Now watch: Tomorrow night's will be a 2-0 nailbiter of a pitchers' duel.

The angels beat the Yankees in a 7-1 ass beating 5 HRs from 5 different players.

Another big time prospect has gotten a big extension. This time it's Detroit giving 21 year old infielder Kevin McGonigle an eight-year, $150 million (it can max out to $160 million with incentives) extension after 17 games in the Majors. He was considered the #2 prospect in the sport going into this season.

It makes me wonder if teams know some of the changes that are coming to the new CBA and are getting ahead of it. Maybe something like prospects called up full time to MLB level can become free agents sooner than they are under the current system. Who knows.

Well I was right about 2, at least. The Cubs shellacked the Phillies 11-2, but mostly on singles. There was some slugging - 2 homers per team, and 4 doubles overall (3 by Michael Busch). The Cubs added another 10 hits to those and took advantage of a couple of defensive miscues to wrap up the series 2 games to 1.

Hope you guys aren't sick of seeing each others' faces. The Phillies travel to Wrigley for a 4-game set starting on Monday.

For anybody interested; Konami is finally releasing their eBaseball (formerly Pro Yakyuu) title in North America for the first time ever. As a lifelong Show player who played the 2019 offering from Konami, I can't even go back to The Show and have been praying to the good man above for an NA release sometime in my lifetime and by God he delivered. The pitching animations, home run animations, the batting itself, and the atmosphere really are a sight to behold when you play it. The fielding was pretty meh when I played but every thing else was fantastic.

Garret Anderson, former outfielder for the Angels passed away yesterday from a heart attack. He would have turned 54 in June.

He spent the first 15 of his 17 Major League seasons with the Angels, winning the 2002 World Series with them along with a 4th place MVP finish. He made 3 All-Star teams and won a pair of Silver Slugger awards.
