I will say that I can echo the sentiment that the emulation scene has always attracted the weirdest fucks for some reason. the hidden forums on smwcentral (a website for hacking a children's game, comprised of many under-18s) in the 2010s were truly degenerate places to be. imagine what nerds would put in a hidden nsfw forum on a Mario website and I can promise it was worse because there was a thread just for demi moore's bush (a sight to behold if you're a) a virgin, b) old, or c) enjoy picking long pubes out of your teeth (not that you'd want to put your face in there for any amount of time)).

their IRC was degenerate as well, with a nsfw channel where the furry roleplaying children came out to publicly yiff and =^_^= and *notices ur bulge* o_o

I'm sure it's better moderated these days (a quick look shows they use discord now).

That wasn't my experience. He spent many years constantly stepping on rakes and while his Super Nintendo emulator was well known as "better" he kept making it worse with retarded UX ideas that people would constantly dunk on, mostly outside KF but over time KF is seemingly the only web 1.0 forum left without a uniform pool of hard left jannies.

For a while you had to use a separate application to scan your roms, convert them into his custom one-off format and folder structure, and never touch that folder because if you do it breaks, just to use BSNES. Then there was the shitty rename and everyone called it BSNES anyway. He got into e-drama with other hobbyists all the time, and of course his fake loss of that SNES game package.

His ass kissers seemed to grow in number 1000x when he hanged himself and blamed this thread for it.

In theory, his rom format was great because you would have a folder dedicated to all the individual parts of the rom, just like a cartridge. In practice, roms are already standardized and widely distributed, and the vast majority of emulation users want something that just fucking works. And he couldn't be bothered to just allow both. His refusal to budge despite everyone's pushback was clearly ego driven.

Came back to this thread after getting some "Byuu isn't dead" videos suggested to me on YT, one of which I think was Null? Not sure if hes actually the mad at the internet guy or if thats just a meme people say but whatever.

Not sure what I expected but after a read seems like Byuu is really dead. A damn shame because I don't think anyone would argue that they didn't have some talent. But dude seemed like his own worst enemy.

Which basically rules out every 3rd world country including and especially poor Brazilian half-breed mutts where the severely outdated but speedy ZSNES is still popular. We operate on the evidence that we have, and until the FOIA stuff came out the evidence for Byuu's death was extremely flimsy at best but I don't think anyone with half a brain denied the possibility he actually necked himself. We have no evidence anything Hector said is true other than David killing himself. His retelling of it is so dumb I can't decide whether he's telling the whole truth or not. On one hand, it sounds stupid, while on the other hand Hector is stupid so I guess its in character for him.

There's emails that mention scattering them to the winds in a place Byuu liked. They say there is no such place, because he never went outside.

His retelling of it is so dumb I can't decide whether he's telling the whole truth or not.

There's also emails that corroborate the story and confirm that whoever it was waited a few hours after the Telegram call to alert the police.

I mean, Byuu did abandon him for however-many years to live in a gooncave in Tokyo, and committed suicide without even leaving a note for his husband, let alone making arrangements of any sort. Combine that with the fact that the husband seems to have been one step above special-needs and we don't exactly have the ingredients for a resounding funeral oration.

Byuu's situation of being alone and having almost nobody that actually cared about him was mostly his own doing. He didn't have to move to Japan while leaving his husband behind, he didn't have to be isolated in his apartment all day (well, ok, you're a gaijin but at least make the effort to try to make friends), he didn't have to keep his husband out of the loop. Even a text message every once in a while would do wonders but seems like Byuu didn't even do that.
