The only "artists & animators" on newgrounds are porn artists, quite literally (in a series of events) the only popular artists on the site are people like speedoru, diives, and other people in the smut animation sphere. Newgrounds is just furaffinity but with normal people mostly.

Look, I don't hate the Indie Renaissance, because every now and then I've seen pilots with potential, like The Art of Murder (no relation to the edgy robot show) or a pilot about dinosaurs whose name I've forgotten. Actually, the Indie Renaissance is very hit-or-miss. It's starting to resemble the Indie videogame scene, where for every FNAF or Undertale, there are 100 games that fail and fade into obscurity. Similarly, for every Digital Circus, there are 100 pilots that fail and fade into obscurity.

The Art of Murder is really funny to me because it is essentially a sanitized version of Drawn Together's premise. 'What if we take several different genres and mash them together under one roof?"


Both of them even have the "Disney Princess' archetype.

I haven't seen it since it came out but there was a plot point about the characters all having Funko Pop figures of themselves that I found immensely dumb.

A guy called silverfox made a video on indie animation

This video didn’t need to be an hour long. It actually gets its point across pretty well within the last 8-10 minutes, and he could’ve made separate videos for each of the indie series/things covered instead. A lot of what he covered is kind of a retread of a lot of the things discussed in this thread, the Troonslop thread, and others. It's just fascinating we're getting to a point where YTers are willing to utilize a lot of those, along with the culture of sites like Soyjak.party in their video essays, assuming they won't get pulled down given enough time.

My biggest takeaway from this video, and observing the rise in "indie animation" as a whole is that what we have now is a "sub-industry." It's own separate bubble from Hollywood, yet it suffers from a lot of similar issues. It's all built on connections, needing to know people, and making sure that what you make checks off the right boxes. Again, like the video states, can you really call yourself "indie" when you've made deals with Amazon, or received funding from the Australian government?

You know why GamerGate happened? It was because people had unearthed an underground labyrinth of connections between indie developers, journalists, indie contests/awards and talking heads, and when the jig was up, they all panicked and tried to cover it up. I'm seeing a lot of similar patterns here, with how a lot of the people who worked on the Hazbin pilot and HB worked on Murder Drones and TADC, in addition to their own stuff later on. How much longer will it take before someone comes forward and their jig is up?

Amidst it all, you have YouTubers like Saberspark who will go to bat for these people and leave little room for criticism because they're "sticking it to the mouse", completely oblivious of what could happen when they become the man on top, and they have to inevitably deal with their own set of critics. "How could we possibly shoot one of our own?" they probably responded when the subject was brought up. I imagine that lack of keeping each other in check is what's led to a lot of the current animation "sub-industry" encompassing a lot of the same tropes and ideas.

But since Zach and Michael have decided to can it now due to whatever happened behind the scenes for them to feel "burnout", they've snipped off any chance artists had at developing something unique or interesting for companies to pick up.

Yes the industry is still gay and retarded, but as we've seen these "sub-industries" are no better and follow a lot of the same practices that make the current industry bad like blacklisting creators for having "wrongthoughts" or possibly abusing their workers as we've seen with Vivzie's animation studio Spindlehorse.

This is a Hungarian political satire series animated by one guy. It looks like ass, but its episodes are produced relatively fast; it already has a second season. It's also surprisingly bipartisan, mocking both the right-wing Hungarian government and Gyula, one of the main characters who's also an unemployed libshit redditor. This is currently one of the most popular animated series in the country, only beaten by foreign cartoons on streaming services.

Only the long episodes from season one have English subs, and even then you need a deep knowledge of Hungarian daily life to understand them, so it's far from accessible, and I cannot recommend it to an international audience.

They’re probably funny to normal people because they’re not completely immersed in a weird community of faggots, and that’s probably also why they’re burnt out. Granted I’m just guessing, based on their origin versus Pendleton Ward/Adventure Time. But given what a septic pipe of bullshit AT opened up once those “connections” started getting projects, I have mixed feelings about it all.

Because action fits better with their shot attention span lmao. Slice-of-life is "too slow" for those types, though if they're exposed to more and more anime, they may still come across SOL-lite episodes in shounen (they're out there) that may help them dip their toes into SOL shows.

Also yes, TikTok slop can get a Zoom-Zoom looking into older anime, it's likely the reason Ranma ½ got a resurgence. Though honestly, having smaller fanbases for SOL anime may be for the best in the long-run.
