The CliffsNotes is that he was discovered both by 4chan and Something Awful at nearly the same time. One of the regulars of the card shop Chris frequented snapped a candid photo of him and posted it to 4chan to clown on him, and at the same time a SA goon posted a link to the Sonichu website and since there was some crossover between the two boards they put 2 and 2 together.
