Are we forgetting his roller skating experience? He fell and rationalized "this hurts I hate it and never want to do it again". He most definitely responds better to physical pain than simply admonishing him. But to punish him in a worthwhile way as in spanking or belt would require borb actually caring enough about their son to not be a huge screw up.

Don't forget he stopped the attraction sign after Barb told him it made him look retarded! If she had followed through with that and explained, very carefully, why it made him look retarded, other options, what it suggests about him and how people don't want to date someone that acts like that - which, of course, Barb would never do/have done, but work with me here - then odds are he would have stopped the attraction sign and perhaps have actually started talking to women or w/e. If he had simply been beaten by Borb when they realized he had the attraction sign, he still would have stopped, but not really known why.

he still doesn't understand why he stopped.....

Because Barb never explained it. But I think if she had, he may have had a better idea why the attraction sign was such a shitty idea.

For someone who's milked the autism card for all it's worth, Barb has never picked up on a few things. Namely, that autistic people require in-depth and fleshed-out explanations rather than pat responses that the average person can intuit.

As in, she knows why the sign makes Chris retarded, and she told him it did, but she didn't sit him down and explain why because hey, her stories were on.

The same thing happened when she told him to stop making Sub-Episodes in the comics: she just said don't make Sub-Episodes. She meant to say Chris probably shouldn't be so candid in recounting every last detail of his embarrassing adventures and run-ins with security, but hey, her stories were on, so no time for that.

Of course, Barb probably never actually saw the sign, as Chris has been very lucky in sneaking things past his parents for as long as he has. Lucky mainly because hey, her stories are on as he heads out the door to solicit pretty girls.

The attraction sign was on the wall of his room for an indeterminate amount of time. Unless Barb never went in there (which is likely), she had to have seen it.

To play a bit of devil's advocate: dyscalculia seems purely cognitive,

If you don't count behaviors like the furious swearing at tax time, or the majoring in English, sure. :sighduck:

Chris could be punished into stopping doing a particular thing that's bad, such as drawing on store merchandise. He's already been punished to a degree where it seems like he'll stay away from the Game PLace due to fear of the consequences, even though he still feels like he deserves to go there.

You've just neatly outlined the difference. He could be punished out of the behavior, just as my luckily quite smart boyfriend could refuse to help me with my taxes until I stopped swearing. But Borb jointly never bothered to help unravel the miscognitions that led to a lot of Chris's behaviors. The root of it is that he thinks certain things are okay or justified if you're blangry. In the comics this included crippling Liquid via gunshot and collapsing a building in which you admit a grand number of the casualties are actually innocent, as well as the bloody executions in Sonichu 10. In real life this includes, among many other things, vandalism of store property that very blatantly is not his. So Borb, not being trained special ed teachers, were unable to help Chris get a handle on his emotions or understand that emotion does not, in fact, make certain actions any less bad. (Not that I'm sure they would ever have dreamed of Shecameforcwc.jpg and the resultant shitstorm.)

Which is particularly dangerous parenting. I know plenty of violent sociopaths who feel their violence and bullying is justified by their emotions. In Chris' case groping and sexual harassment can be chalked up to that in his mind

Just put Chris on a leash, and put an electric shock collar around his neck. Make Catparty his full-time caretaker. Chris will definitly be capable of learning.

Huh, interesting. This looks like it's relatively new then. I don't think the article mentions where these updated guidelines are coming from, though. The NIH?

And then, of course, that lesson, if reinforced when dealing with other aspects of his behavior, might actually result in him getting more of a clue in life generally.

She probably also didn't want to deal with all that shit because it would cause her |:( .

Chris always complains about [cwc]stress[/cwc] but he's also always talking about how his mother has to lie down and recover after having family conflicts and such.

what do you mean by that?

I mean, if Bob had the energy to put Chris on the other end of his belt in 2006 (and nip all that dumb shit in the bud), would you say corporal punishment is the worst thing for him (because we know Chris is a damn kid no matter the age).

I mean what if they cut down the internet in 2006? Or Took away his PS eye which lead to all the videos. Half the time it wasn't even that they were lazy, it was Chris would effectively convince his parents that he wasn't wrong and they'd believe cause they didn't see him as being capable of having flaws and didn't understand how the internet works. Plenty of parents today discover their kids acting like idiots on the internet. They tend to nip it in the bud and make sure the kid knows that they're not to misbehave on the internet that they aren't paying for.

We should remember that Chris was 23-years-old in 2006.

That's why I said "2006". It's one thing to belt a kid, but another to belt a grown man as if he was a kid (fittingly, Chris). Age 23 (and after February, 24) is when most of the shit that occurred possibly could have been averted (which at this point, was right around the corner), but then again, Chris has never really been that smart. The only reason it even went on for as long as it did is because of the autistic routine thing. Had Chris been neurotypical (I don't have enough faith in him to believe he would have been any smarter than he turned out to be), he would have retreated into his hugbox much earlier.

Chris apparently needed a few good whuppin's from a belt.

I seriously considered sending him a nice, handmade Christmas card with a pleasant greeting, but with the amount of ween mail he must get, I doubt he would even open it.
