Well, it shows, I guess. Honestly, given how much of it feels like a middle finger to the fanbase, and how batshit insane it is, I think he might've actually made it of spite, or to troll people.
They're definitely overreacting. Don't get me wrong, it's not good, but it's not that bad like Twitter, and Reddit are saying. It's just really weird, and dark, even for Class of '09.
That seems to be the general consensus for people who liked the game. The fact that the best comment they have to say about it is "well, actually it isn't bad, but..." should be a red flag, the only reason people like it is because they liked the other two previous games.
He threw a Dan Schneider joke into the mix for one of the game's routes, so that's my probable guess, alongside being edgy for the sake of it.
I will say this. When it's not being any of that, or misery porn, the writing isn't bad.
It's all but the last one because of when the game takes place, which is surprising considering the developer is your typical orange man bad fella.

There was a bit of pro Obama stuff in there because the game takes places between the years 2007 and 2009, as well as some anti-homophobia messages due to one of the game's routes having the protagonist pretend date the newly outed lesbian girl, but what crazily balances that out of all things is the white supremacist routes and endings in the previous games that were completely direct and bluntly racist.
Feetbro memes are memes for a reason. IDK, saying it's the weakest out of the three is like saying Guardians of the Galaxy 3 is the weakest out of the three. I guess it's true, but it's still on brand enough to not really be a knock-off.

The white supremacist teacher converts the entire school into becoming part of his neo-Nazi cult and they proceed to either blow up a Puerto Rican bingo hall, kill the nerdy character for going on a date instead of joining their egging a pride parade rally resulting in the FBI arresting everyone, or Muslim activists burning the entire school down with them alive inside after their chants and manifestos get uploaded to the internet.
