Doug's major sin was not being an edgelord and fake laughing it off when Malin, Cecil and Kelsey were having a Doug-bashing session and cutting his losses early by not even expecting a decent response and especially in Ethan, Mitch, Cecil, Malin, and Kelsey's case a believable one. He had a right to be angry, but he made the wrong assumption about shared moral codes. Doug was waiting to hear some sort of assurance that this kind of trash talk wouldn't continue, but of course it would and the more he insisted to a group of narcissistic loaf-breadtube comic pros who can never be convinced they've ever done anything wrong (and if they did they really didn't mean it, but eff you anyway hahalolol), the more they would throw it back on him. And here we are.

This isn't about appointing a new king for Scivergate (Sciverfrog will always be self-appointed) or even liking Ernst's comic book; his strength is as a commentator. It's the same old story with these guys as it was with everything Vice Sciver slobbers over: run your mouth and twitter your thumbs until you hit drama gold. Doug made the mistake thinking any of these guys were worth anything outside of making comics. The average human wreckage score is about 10x higher in SCG than anywhere else. Both Cecil and Kelsey have drinking/substance abuse problems and in the best of scenarios, Kelsey has no control or memory over what he says from one drunken minute to the next... but they all know how to shit the bed and blame it on the room service on their way out.

An industry needs a market. The bigger the market, the bigger the industry can be to supply its needs. To their credit, early Zach and Mitch recognized this but they failed in their own special ways. Mitch's failure wouldn't have been so bad if he hadn't sold out his backers in order to do it and once Zach dropped the TI on Waid, there's not much sense in even discussing the issue anymore. Crowdfunding is pretty much it now. Not having comics in online or B&M stores is a permanent downgrade. It may be good enough for those creatives who have already made it big in a now deflated industry, but there can't be any debate now about CG's new adjusted scope: a cottage industry comprised of a few thousand collectors willing to pay steep speculator prices for comic books. The industry has died and the inheritance is being squandered on the vanity projects of its spoiled heirs, none of which has the potential to truly carry the torch.

So now that expectations have been suitably lowered/subverted, the essential barometer of success for all these guys should be having actually published a comic book on their own terms: first with a successful crowdfund and then with the fulfillment. Doug did that, and he did it without the help of Frog and his tadpoles. That's a big win as far as I'm concerned. Could he have used their help? I'm sure he could have! But the main lesson to be learned here is that Doug wasn't about to humiliate himself for the sake of their amusement or as they say now "Youtube marketing". In my opinion he should dwell on that rather than expect any response other than he's already received from these "honorable gentlemen."

Doug would also do well to leave these grievances in a heap and walk away. He doesn't have a personal following large enough to force a change of policy or even effect another worthless surface apology. I'd be angry too, but he's not dealing with men who operate off of any principles that would in theory provide a professional environment to coexist in. It's not worth the abuse and it is time to move on.

I also found myself a copy of Valerian The Complete Collection Volume 7 which is dead impossible to obtain. It's like everything I do this week turns to gold. I hope it never ends.

It's no offense to JDA that I haven't talked about Deus Vult, but he doesn't need my endorsement now. His book is beyond fully funded and it's going to reach $30K without my help.

I mentioned COBALT today because the book has splendid art and needed a boost to get funded. I'll yap about it two or three more times to help it along. I'm limiting helping other people's books, because my endorsement or lack thereof seems to occasionally create obsessed stalker retards.
