This is also a warning shot, so retailers know if they refuse to order the book for a customer, people will find out, and other customers may choose to take their business elsewhere.

I would have been, prior to GamerGate.

The thing I came away from Goobergate with is a sense there are people more than willing to act against their own economic self interest in ways that not only makes no sense, those acting this way are utterly unable to coherently express even why they are acting as such. It is like they're a member of a cult that has no definitive creed.

This is one of the reasons why comics book stores are going down the toilet - they'd rather flood their shelves with barely selling garbage like America and Squirrel Girl and take a huge financial hit just to demonstrate how #WOKE they are, instead of taking preorders for a book that already racking up big prerelease numbers because the creator committed the crime of "wrongthink".

As gamergate showed us, many of the SocJus crowd would rather set their product on fire rather than have even a single "non-woke" person give them a single dollar for it. While I can (somewhat) respect them sticking to their guns, it doesn't pay the bills.

They'd really rather continue to exist and turn a marginal profit to keep the doors open, but if they refuse these shit products from Marvel, they run the risk of immediately being branded as dass raysiss and driven out of business that way, since their profits are already marginal at best.
